Unluckiest Ring Chasers?

Post#1 » by dmakk » Tue May 17, 2022 10:05 pm

I was just thinking about Wes Matthews signing with the Lakers and Bucks the wrong years 3 years in a row. Is there anyone else more unlucky than him?

I felt kinda bad for LMA this year. Went to the Nets for a ring and not only got swept in the 1st round but didn't even get to play.

IIRC, David West took about a $10M pay cut to sign with the Spurs in 2015-2016 and didn't win one that year.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

Tmac was one Manu/Kawhi free throw away from a ring.

Security literally brought out the yellow tape in Miami with Spurs up by 5 with 28 seconds left.

Jeff Green? He's been on or joined quite a few teams with title aspirations but hasn't won one yet because something unexpected always happens. (OKC, BOS, CLE, UTA, BRK, DEN).

Karl Malone was unlucky too. He might've got one in LA if he didn't get hurt in the finals. Gave it his best shot though.

Green is a great pick because he left teams right before they won titles or joined teams that won titles and failed that year.

Wes Matthews was on the Bucks, watched the Lakers win a title. Went to the Lakers, watched the Bucks win a title. Went back to the Bucks and was on pace to win a title until Middleton got hurt. I feel bad for the dude.

Bazemore is pretty unlucky too. He started his career with Warriors, had a good relationship with Warriors and Curry, and came back to Warriors last season. Played pretty OK, and Warriors wanted to resign him this season. Instead, he decided to go to Lakers for a championship run. He got benched most of the season, Lakers didn't make PO, and Warriors are now in the conference final...

Marion Hossa for the NHL
Tried chasing with the pens and they made it to the finals against the Red Wings only to lose,
then offered same money but bailed for the Red Wings the next season. It was a repeat matchup, and the Red Wings lost to the penguins

But then he went on to win 3 cups with the Blackhawks after that. I think he did OK in his chase

Currently it may be Deandre Jordan. I know he thought he would get a ring at one of these spots he’s been the last 3 years.

and that's after he went to San Antonio to join a contender, only to have Kawhi get injured, the whole big 3 leave/retire, and the Kawhi demand a trade. Leaving him to treadmill for the fading years of his prime.

considering lebron thought he'd win 7 with miami, i'd say his batting average sucked.
