Assistant GM of a G-League team is very much an entry-level job. It's in-demand just because it gets you a foot in the door for future NBA FO jobs if you work your way up, which is why it's generally taken by either overqualified people willing to work for way less then then could elsewhere or else people with clear insider connections.

For this, a good owner would give their kid the job to see how they do with it. If they take it seriously and put in the grunt and grind work to do the job well they can get gradually promoted to meaningful positions. If they only treat it as a side gig that they only pay attention to when it isn't interfering with parties, travel and maintaining their IG account then you know to avoid giving them any job that matters.

G league teams have scouts and video coordinators. No one walks off the street and gets an assistant GM job.

Ranadive’s daughter has ZERO experience in any basketball related field. She has a degree in marine biology.

There are probably multiple people who’ve worked for the Stockton Kings who would love to have that job and have put in the time and effort. This type of nepotism breeds resentment. Give her an intern position as a scout with the Kings or something but don’t have her step over people into a notable role (even if it’s in name only).

Just a dumb move. She can learn without a title, it’s overkill that might alienate your own people. Not shocking from Vivek though.

That and everyone has got to start somewhere right? Plus how difficult is it to be a GM? I’m not saying a “good” gm per say, but just the actual job of it?

- do you know anything about the game of Basketball?
- do you know all the players on your team?
- do you know what your team needs?
- do you know how the salary cap works? (Funny enough, even if you don’t, that’s ok because there are other jobs in the organization who specialize in that area that can help you)
- are you a good communicator with both your co-workers, players, coaches, owner, and with other general managers in the league (for trade discussion)?

If you answer yes to all these questions, you too, can be a GM in the league. The rest of the stuff like scouting, understanding salary cap, lineups, game planning, etc are handled by other people like team scouts, executives, coaches, etc. But I never been a GM except in fantasy so it’s possible, I might be talking out of my ****.

At anyone who thinks this is a great hiring because she is attractive. I doubt any of you guys would want a Victoria Secrets model running your franchise. Definitely a nepotism hiring of someone who is not qualified. I get it from Vivek's angle he is doing no different then what family members do in different businesses which is give their kids a leg up.
