Who is tanking for Victor?

Post#1 » by Swish1906 » Wed May 18, 2022 12:57 am

The one big prize next year. Should be tempting for a few teams to mail it in for a year to get the next international generational player. Specially with seeing Giannis, Joker and Luka in the MVP race

I expect the Thunder for sure. Pistons after a Grant trade. Rockets. Blazers after a midseason Dame trade

Can someone copy paste that essay from the last Wembanyama thread? Feel like it summarizes his position as a prospect perfectly.

Here's part of it, can't find the original full version. Paging the great UcanUWill.

We just talked about him on general board. I wrote quite long post on him, definitely a critical one. Ten minutes later this game started, watched the whole game, focused on him a ton. He came to this game averaging under 5 points on 25.4 FG%, Hes been insane bad outside rim protecting, but his defense in this game unbelievable, like holly crap, he completely changed the game, was the most impactful player on the court.

But he is still the guy who is undoubtfully is terrible offensive player who cant do almost anything outside defending and catching some and finishing it. As I said, Durant comparisons are as educated as Thon Maker MVP comparisons. Wembanyama has no offenseive game whatsoever, if he pans out, he will be transendant defender, could be one of the best ever, but he will probably never be above average offensive. You need to expect a guy who will pick and pop and pick and roll at competent level, at that would be enough. Honestly, his team now runs zero of those with him, because as of right now, he is so raw both physically and skill wise, that he cant even set a pick really, hes brutal. Hes both best defensive player in Europe and one of the worst offensive players in Europe. If last nights game is trend, those facts will change quick.

Does have generational defensive potential but I am not sold on his offense.

Yeah Ucanwill or that eastern european guy who scouts players from Europe. He said he was overrated and was struggling so I'm caught off guard from this thread.

 Its his first really good game. Watched the whole thing, he was very good. The difference was he tried to play inside. In other games, he just floats at perimeter to be last resort shooter (who cant shoot at all). He is super weak physically, but he showed he can finish some he is just so much taller than everybody, and Euroleague is far from undersized. I got to say, his hands are not very good, he constantly fumbles the ball I would say, thats discouraging.

Similar teams as this year. OKC, Houston, Det and probably Portland.

Wembanyama is a helluva prospect as far as his talent/attributes, but these oversized guys with their lower body injuries always scare me.

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

Orlando will still have one of the youngest team in the league. I still predict a top-5 worst record.

Just give us a sec while we fuel up our tank. Gas prices are up and we just endured a heck of a tank run.

He really seems to play and move like KP to me. As a scout, I'd be worried if he might have a similar career tract, injury wise. As mentioned by a poster above, players with this body style tend to have lower body injury issues.

Don't know about Wembanyana, but OKC will likely be in the hunt for another top pick.

He does look like a generational prospect. His fluidity and ability to create off the dribble at his size is extremely impressive. Kp could do similar but he was not this fluid. Barring injury he should be a great player.

These over 7'2" guys always scare me.

Yao, Ralph Sampson, Porzingis, Pavel Podkolzin, Brad Millard. They either had their careers cut way short or they just weren't the same after injury.

Rik Smits had a pretty long and successful career but IIRC, when the Pacers once tried luring him out of retirement he told them it even hurt his foot when he merely stepped on the gas pedal in his car. Damn.

I haven't much other footage of the kid, but based on the above highlight clip IMO he looks a lot like Chet Holmgren.

Skilled, great length, but a super skinny frame...narrow hips and shoulders. Despite the nice plays he was definitely getting pushed around a bit under the hoop.

I wouldn't put it past the Blazers to just go full tank this summer. Trade Dame, let Nurk walk, release Hart and Bledsoe, resign Simons on a cheap deal, use the 7th pick and just go full out awful next year from the jump.

How cheap can Simons be, though? I'm not sure he wants to work for cheap.

I would also imagine the Blazers (if they tank) would probably pull an OKC and sit him in the latter part of the season like with SGA.

No thanks.
Damn stick insect ballers trying to pretend they can survive a 82 game banging against NBA monsters season.
Might give a promising season or 2 before something breaks.
No body built this thin is lasting too long in NBA - same goes for Chet - advance condolences to whichever fan base drafts him.

Who are the last generational talents? Lebron, Steph and Giannis. This kid is not one of them
