The case of Chet Holmgren for the Magic

Post#1 » by MasterGMer » Thu May 19, 2022 2:42 am

Truthfully, Chet wasn't on my list at the beginning. I thought he was too weak and reminded me exactly of Shawn Bradley. Bradley averaged 5 blocks in College and had the touch for long range shots. Everybody knows he is a bust and didn't live up to the hype when he entered NBA.

I was scared. I thought Chet was exactly that with limited durability.

But as I dug more into evaluating Chet, I started to change my idea. The exciting thing is that him and Suggs dominated high school competition together and Chet played for US U17 team in the world cup.

Many people doubted his size and he could easily be injured in the competitive NBA. But as I read this article. I started to change my mind.

What intrigues me is his defense and potential shot making ability. He can space the floor. And would be a great fit with Wendell. Him and Wendell can be a dominate force in defense in the NBA.

Plus his ball skill and potential. That intrigues me as well.

He needs NBA Strength and conditioning training and that is easy, since NBA players go thru that all the time

I like him.

But I have reservations about his game. Defensively, he could be a game changer, but we have Isaac already. Also, we’ve seen in the playoffs how teams played against Gobert? And how will he play against the likes of Embiid in the playoffs?

Will he be useful on offense? He hasn’t shown he can punish smaller defenders on the post, which will make him another Kristaps Porzingis. For a team lacking offensive creators, I don’t think this will even help our offense.

long time lurker first timer poster. im torn on this decision. feel like both smith and chet have huge superstar potential. i just feel like chet has bigger bust potential. love a core of fultz/suggs/wagner/jabari

My gut/eyes tell me Jabari. My brain/advanced stats tells me Chet. I lean Jabari but I 100% get the draw to Chet.

Guys, just read the ringer article. It is a comprehensive analysis on Chet. I read it earlier. It may change your decision

I'll definitely read/study up on content this weekend but one thing that scares the $%#! out of me with Jabari is his terrible 2pt %. I heard someone say that he will have the lowest 2pt % of ANY top 5 pick in the last 10 years (so 50th out of 50 guys)... not sure if true but I can believe it looking at his percentages.

If we reallt arw throwing words like UNICORN around in regarding Chet, isnt there a Filipino 7'2 big man playing in the aussie league that is also being called a unicorn? Lol. Just grab him with one of our 2nds if we still are hoping for unicorns.

It’s true they went through the numbers on a ringer podcast a couple weeks back

Chet for PG.

PG Chet Holmgren
SG Franz Wagner
SF Jonathan Isaac
PF Mo Bamba
C Wendell Carter Jr.

WHO SAYS NO???!!!

In all seriousness, Chet will probably be our pick. We'll have to hope and pray his career does not follow the same injury path that Isaac went down because we will never hear the end of it. Humans that tall and skinny are not built to withstand the rigors of the NBA, but if we're gambling on upside, then WeHam will not be able to pass. I'm pretty sure that if WeHam could go into the lab and create their own prototype prospect, that it would look close to what Chet looks like. His tools are just way more complete than Jabari or Paolo. He has to get tougher and I have major doubts about his ability to put on good weight, but it is a swing for the fences type pick.

ohh it's Mat does Steroids .. oops i mean Mat does Fitness and his BS.

Honestlly, among toxic youtube fitness community, that guy might be one of the worst. Guy is juiced to his core and claims natural.

Even if you tried to stuff 20 000 calories in you, you would probably either end in hospital or started vomiting at some point. Or both.

Fitness advice number 1 in life: never listen to guy with abs & vains on youtube that walks around with 8% bodyfat 365 days a yearthat claims natural about nutrition. Guy has "special souce" he won't tell you. Because it ain't legal.

They have 3 level scorers.

You don’t draft shooters at 1

Franz handled the ball and Suggs will learn to tighten up his handle. We have to be able to shoot.
