I don't know about apologize but I'll definitely give him credit for how well he's playing right now. It's definitely crazy that he's looking more like part of the warriors future as opposed to that albatross contract waiting to expire.

He's been **** on for years and regardless of what he does that won't change. I am guilty of it myself. That being said, I like seeing him do well.

Guy def had talent, it's why he was the #1 pick
But he ended up in a great situation.
He's playing with 3 future HOF guys who know how to win.
It's not on him to win games by himself. That's a ton of pressure taken off the kid.
This could be a problem for Luka. Wiggins is totally up in his face and has the size and length to defend him.
And you know that is all the GSW are askign him to do. Slow Down Luka.
If they were asking him to score 25 PPG while you do that - I don't think we would not be having this convo.
Him and Luka are gonna mix it up before this series is over.
This is good stuff.
Warriors are 3 time champs, they are not going down without a fight and Wiggins might just be the X Factor.
Maple Jordan is still just 26 too.

it was a lot worse before the first bump of the thread, but its my fault for thinking it was colloquial everybody since you can always find a few lunatics that will argue the sky aint blue.. The Warriors were dragged here for that trade, a lot, and its evident by the comments following the trade

there was a play last night where Wiggins kinda fell asleep, let Luka float for an open 3 - his least contested of the night, which he of course hit, and my first thought was "goddamnit.. well, maybe jamaal was taking a piss or something

It was a sign of the times.. guys like him, Harrison Barnes, OJ Mayo.. they were given top billing because they were difficult shot-makers. And the thought was that the rest of their floor games would come around as well, like a Jayson Tatum. But the odds were always heavily against those types of players, more so than your "typical" #1 picks.. if Wiggins was drafted at a more appropriate spot, let's say 5-8, wasn't ever tried as the #1 option, and signed for less than the max, I'd wager his perceived value among fans would go up right now, as a player.
Narratives are hard to change, especially when it comes to sports fans. A very dug-in lot.. add anyone willing to have an earnest conversation to your favorites because its rarer than Draymond accepting a foul with grace

Praise a number 1 pick from going from empty stat padder to solid role player? Yea no. He got an all star but it was not deserved.

Re: This board really needs to apologize to Andrew Wiggins
You have to give him credit for how he grew his game by shrinking his game. In Minnesota he was terrible because he tried to be a volume scorer but sucked at it, while at the same time playing defense like a guy who thought he was too good offensively to exert energy on that end.
He's embraced the fact that he isn't a volume scorer and worked on his complimentary offensive skills. He's embraced that as someone who isn't that kind of volume scorer that he needs to try and defense and fully dedicated himself to using his athletic tools on that end.
I don't think people were wrong that he sucked back then because he flat out did. They were wrong about his willingness to buy into being a role player and thrive at that vs trying to be a star player which he wasn't.

From now on i'll let Wiggins have a little sleep, as a treat, without dragging him on the General Board repeatedly for years.

Why didn’t Pat Bev get run out of town?

Are you saying Thibs or Glen Taylor that ran Jimmy out of town? Haha
KAT has been blamed for running Jimmy out of town since the trade because he couldn’t handle the leadership. Pat Bev comes in gets instant response from KAT. Wolves instantly improve drastically on defense and become a playoff team. And now that’s on new minority owners and the coach? People will do anything but give credit to these guys.

He was ripped for years because he wasn't productive with Minnesota. You live in the present and don't seem to be capable of looking at the bigger picture. Everybody knew Golden State would be a make or break situation for Wiggins and thankfully he evolved as a player.KodiakBear wrote:Everybody ripped him for years in Minnesota calling him a bust and a bad teammate. Time for people to just accept while not as good as Embiid or Jokic, he is a damn good player.

If you need a #1 scorer, pick your favorite here and roll with that. Neither of them is that, though Irving is obviously closer
If you need a #2 scorer, pick Kyrie
If you need a #3 or below scorer, pick Wiggins

Re: This board really needs to apologize to Andrew Wiggins
I don't think anyone needs to apologize to Wiggins. He didn't become what he was drafted to become. He spent a half-decade in Minnesota disappointing as a scoring threat. He's found a role in Golden State which has helped him not suck. He's been a 96 TS+ player on his career and in his grand improvement with Golden State with his developed 3, he's at 99. The draw rate from his first two seasons fell off a cliff and never returned; he's a weak FT shooter. His 30s are 90% assisted and he's doing the bulk of his work from the corners. He has improved some on D. He's got some value in contribution as a roleplayer. He had a good game. It's nice to see that he has found a way to be useful, but he has so wildly underperformed expectations, it doesn't make sense to make a thread like this.
"Great 2 way player" is a little generous. He's a guy who suits his role in Golden State well. Having stripped all pretentions of focal offensive utility away, he's spending most of his time hitting corner 3s (which he's generally been able to hit pretty well his whole career), lobs, transition buckets are feasting on simple stuff because the team's focal offensive players have been using his athleticism. His D has been nice. That he's settled into this role has also been nice.
But a reaction like this after game 1, really? DHO to open 3, wide-open assisted 3. That's how he opened the game. Nothing special there, but to his credit, both of them wing/straightaway 3s, not corner shots. Then he came around a screen for a nice dribble step-back jumper at the elbow. Screen, hesi dribble, DAL switches with Luka shading him left, soft floater from the bottom of the circle, left side. Nice touch. Next one, gets totally stopped on the dribble but gets a jump hook turning into the lane, which was nice. Nice catch-and-shoot 3 from Steph. Pull-up long 2. Missed a chippie at the rim off an inbounds play but got the putback.
Like, Wiggins had a good game. He has a bit of a handle, he has a dash of a post game. He can't consistently be relied upon to create significant volume offense. He fits in very well with what Golden State does because he doesn't have pressure or double coverage. That's... what roleplayers do. He's got physical tools and some skills, it's nothing no one has seen from him. The major difference is the role and the environment. The idea that people should apologize to him for turning himself into an effective roleplayer is foolishness.
This thread SHOULD have been positioned as a congratulations for Wiggins accepting what he is not and adapting so well to his new role in Golden State. That's a worthy notion, because not everyone has the ability to say "hey, I'm young and still athletic, but I'm not THAT guy. I'm gonna buy in and do my job while the other guys do the heavy lifting." That's actually impressive and worthy of accolade.
