I honestly didn't know Bob Cousy was still alive. Good for him. I agree with his take

One thing I learned throughout my life, the reason we have more tools and resources today is because of the someone built the foundation from yesterday. So yes, a Bugatti is going to run faster, stronger than the 1st car ever made, but without someone making that first car, there would be no Bugatti.

Us, in present tense, needs to learn from the past and innovate for the future; while the past needs to adapt in present times and continue building for the future.

Same, the guy is 93. Props for standing up for himself, I bet JJ thought the man was dead too when he came with that slander.

Like people in 50 years will look back at JJ Redick as a super athlete...

so cousy nails it

jj doesn't make the nba 40-60 years ago so of course he's all in on today's game

I’ve pulled a 180 on Redick. Used to really like him, but now I think he’s a disrespectful d bag for his comments about the past generation. I hate people who don’t appreciate and show respect for those who paved the way for you. Comes off like an entitled ass wipe these days.

I liked Reddick better when he just played basketball for Duke and in the NBA.

There's a saying in education and self-improvement: "Whatever gets measured gets better."

I'd invent my own supplementary saying and throw it into the business world (i.e., the world of professional basketball): "Whatever makes money gets measured."

Players are (generally) better today, but it's different times, different worlds, and different sports. Mostly, the improvements have a lot more to do with money than with technology, in my opinion. It's not that the world of physical human performance is that much more evolved, but rather that available resources are far more likely to be funneled in the direction of professional athletics than fifty years ago. There are technological advances that matter, too, of course, particularly in recovering from major injuries, but I think they're often oversold.

There needs to be a term created for being the best of your present time, not to be looked down upon by the average of a future more developed time. It probably should incorporate the concept of early adoption.

People are always like, "Man, we're so advanced compared to the past," but you almost never hear, "Man, we're so primitive compared to the future." People act like the future doesn't even exist.

PS And the rare times that people do acknowledge the future, it's usually a future they've already mapped out and predicted in the present, just to show how "advanced" they are.

Sigh. Who am I kidding. I'm no better than anyone else.

The real question is, what is JJ's nickname, and is it better than Houdini of the Hardwood?

Mid-Atlantic accent… lol

You don’t hear that often.

I personally don’t think much of him in comparison of the names he listed because I don’t think of him as a transcendent player.
