Deandre Ayton?
Pheonix is playing hardball and not offering him a max deal. Do we have enough cap space to make a deal?
I am sure they would match, but would you go after him? Would you, dare I say, trade #1 for him?

Re: Deandre Ayton?
Absolutely not.
I'd rather have Chet/Jabari/Paolo on a rookie deal under contract for the next 7-8 years.
They have already paid WCJr to a decent deal and are rumored to be moving Bamba.
FWIW Hammond has also already made comments about not rushing the rebuild. No point in spending more money on that position.

Re: Deandre Ayton?
i dont believe 1 playoff series destroys a player. But center isnt a position as important as before and he isnt an extreme talent. we have too many holes in other areas and we have WCJ, possibly keeping Bamba depending on how the draft goes. I wouldnt make a move on Ayton

Re: Deandre Ayton?
I think Ayton can do more than he's shown in PHX but it's projection. I'm absolutely willing to spend the #1 pick based on a projection, but I'm not willing to spend the #1 pick and a max salary on it. If he becomes a FA and all it cost was the max salary I'd entertain it. Maybe we get lucky like we did with TMac.

Nope, I'm good. His inability to get to the FT line along with his bad hands, neither of which he's improved on are red flags.

Re: Deandre Ayton?
He's the belle of the ball in a very limited FA class...No way is he a max player-unless your PHO and he's the piece you need to keep it rolling. Would be a horrible idea to build around a Center with very limited shooting, rebounding, and shot blocking.

Re: Deandre Ayton?
I’m still a Deandre Ayton fan. I believe he has a very bright NBA future ahead of him … but not in Orlando.
Dallas alongside Luka might be a good spot for him. Or perhaps a Gobert / Ayton S&T swap is beneficial for both teams?
But no no no, he is not what Orlando needs or wants right now.

I’d take him for the right price. Certainly not the first overall pick

Re: Deandre Ayton?
I think he's better than he's shown in Phoenix, but with how limited we were in our offense last season, if we're throwing maximum money at a player then it would need to be for someone way more actively involved within a game. So many instances he's far too passive on both ends of the floor.
There's not a chance I'd be giving up the first pick for him.

Not me. Especially if you have to pay Ayton double the amount that WCj makes. I'll take the tougher guy in WCj who is more made for playoff basketball. Ayton is a good regular season player, but he's shown over and over again that he's not a force to worry about.

The problem is not what you trade for him, it's the contract he requires...move on

Deandre Ayton's Agent: Disappointed We Didn't Get A Max Deal
My agent also floated the idea of a Max, and was equally disappointed.
Where do players get this level of arrogance ??? (( and no, it's not confidence ))
OMD link: Aaron Gordon believes he is a max player

Re: Deandre Ayton?
Why would we trade anything of value for him? I would definitely sign him for a max though.

Re: Deandre Ayton?
Should be our priority, for a simple reason:he is a realistic target.
Guy wants a max contract and we can give him and we can give him also a more prominent role.
If phoenix match the offer no problem,at least we tried.

Re: Deandre Ayton?
I do like Ayton, but I ultimately would not sign him.
I am comfortable with Carter as the center moving forward.

Re: Deandre Ayton?
Let the Suns play hard ball, offer him the max with a poison pill if possible, they don't want pay the max for a center when they can find vet minimum bigs who replicate 80% of what he brings them.
For us he would be the star and #1 option, and will probably carry this team to the playoffs as soon as next season.

My brain and calculator are against it...but my heart would be thrilled to see such a bold move.
