I think the point is you’re far more likely to get a Gerald Green than a Kobe.

Someone ITT already said it could be a Jordanesque pick. Jalen Green was compared to Kobe. I think you are missing the point, though.

It also depends what program he goes to. If he goes to San Antonio, I think that could work. If he goes to Sacramento… we’ve seen that story too many times.

Did he not play HS ball or something? What's the difference between selecting him high and selecting a HS kid IE 20 years ago or whatever?

Lots of the high school lottery picks ended up busting. Kwame Brown, Jonathan Bender, Martell Webster, Robert Swift.

I remember Gerald Green was hyped as a top 5 pick, and ended up dropping because of the risk. Sure enough he was a mediocre NBA Player.

If Shaedon is a Tmac, Garnett, or Kobe then he will be great regardless where he goes. But it’s impossible to project that unless it’s LeBron. And he’s not that level talent.

If you take a HS kid in the lottery, you are hoping to hit it out the park. It’s a polarizing selection.

Yep, exactly.

For every Jermaine O'Neal out there, there are multiple Korleone Young waiting on the wings.

Kobe could be projected to be a successful NBA player if you did a background check. He played against NBA players since he was a younger teen. His father was an NBA player. His uncle even made the league. Everyone knew that Kobe would be a good NBA player that knew his background. Greatness is the part that's nearly impossible to project.

I could see see Ivey, Murray and maybe one other guy going ahead of him. I think he goes in the 6-8 range. He's going to need to perform in workouts though. He measured out an inch or two below what people were hoping.

Doesn’t sound like my Pistons are in on him at 5. Likely Ivey or Murray.

I’m a little disappointed to hear this, but I understand it. There is certainly added risk with Sharpe.

Do HS kids even bust more than college players, or are the expectations just way higher? Almost everyone falls short of what their player comparison/upside is on basically every site, except for like 5-10 guys in a given draft it seems.

A while ago research was done which revealed that the longer an NBA player stayed in college the more off court behavior problems he would have and the less impactful of a player he would be.

It comes down to decision making. Would you rather make a decision with more or less information? This doesn’t mean that high school players who go straight to the NBA won’t become stars — they could. But, you’re making the selection with a lot more uncertainty, which increases the risk.

Kobe Bryant would have never taken a year off from playing basketball as a teenager.

If Kobe was an obvious star on draft night, why was he traded?

Weaver isnt going to leak we like Sharpe if he likes him. Were picking at 5 with a Kings team that could trade the pick ahead of us or take him. Sharpe is a really tough decision to make if you want him or not you dont give that info out on what you think. Ofc a dumb Gm would play it diff but I feel like Weaver knows what hes doing.

it sure looks like Ivey, Sharpe, and Murray could go 4, 5, 6 in some order. If I had to bet I'd have the Kings taking Murray since they have two guards already. if Detroit goes Sharpe or anyone else not named Ivey, the Pacers run up the card for Ivey. but if Detroit goes Ivey, I can see the Pacers also passing on Sharpe and looking at Mathurin or Griffin or even trading down. I don't see them taking Sharpe unless he comes to Indy for workouts and interviews and expresses interest in playing here. Detroit could feel the same way.

Because he cried like a bitch that he’d go to Europe if he didn’t go to LAL.

Daniels is another guy whos rising right now that could be a interest to both our teams. ESPN just moved him up to 5 or 6 i forget which so keep a eye on him.

If you draft a high schooler your odds of hitting (historically) are much higher than from college. 41 players have been drafted straight from high school. At least 25 have been legit NBA players. 10 have been all-stars.
