Paul Reed
Hi all,
I 'am MIN fan and coming in peace. I know that there has been some unnecessary beef between MIN and PHI fans, but I really appreciate Embiid commitment to win. And I hope you will be able to avoid injuries next season.
I have a question though.
1) How would you describe Paul Reed's game? Is he a good weak side defender? Can into the play read-n-react type of defense? Can into the score against starters? What type of character into the is? Good teammate?
2) I have one idea. We have Jayden Nowell a microwave scorer who does not get much playing time. He is a below average defender, but he can score
According to this topic you are looking for bench scorer

Would you trade Reed for Nowell?
Thanks!

Hey, welcome
I'll leave this here for a bit, but then probably move it to our trade thread or our Paul Reed thread
But maybe you can get a few replies before I move it.
I don't know much about your guy, but Reed offers us size / defense / athleticism, which we desperately need. I would not be at all surprised to see him starting at the 4 next to Embiid, or first off the bench. Can't see us trading him for a guard.

Yea, probably. Why would you all do it though? You have Jarred Vanderbilt.

Vando is a bit undersized and has no offensive game, he also can't pass nor dribble. He has an excellent contract, but we need an upgrade

I have some bad news for you about Paul Reed....

Re: Paul Reed
Reed flashes a lot of defensive potential and maybe has a viable jumper based on his G League experience. Right now he’s a very similar player to Vanderbilt in that he’s all effort & garbage points. He has a higher ceiling tho imo.
My guess is that Reed is either here to stay or gone in a bigger deal than getting Nowell. Just doesn’t feel like a move Morey makes given that scoring guards are easier to find.

Yeah this. We need Reed for the same reasons the Wolves could use him. So he stays unless he goes for a bigger piece.

Re: Paul Reed
I get the allure of Reed, but Nowell finished the year (15 games) with a line 10 ppg (46% FG, 41% 3FG, 83% FT), 2 apg, 2 rpg and is able to get his own shot. They completely abandoned playing him in the playoffs, but it feels like he's about to take off. He's also 6'5 with a decent wingspan and an elite shot form. I'd rather take a chance on him and find some high energy dude like Reed in FA or in the draft.

That’s a fair take. I was really impressed with Nowell in the games I watched this year. If I were the Timberwolves, I’d hold onto him assuming that D’Angelo Russell gets dealt and then need more on ball work from Nowell & Ant.
I think Reed & Nowell have roughly equivalent value and both project as potentially very useful players.

Re: Paul Reed
Speaking of Min players, I'd love to buy extremely low on Josh Okogie. Especially if Danny is toast and Thybulle gets traded.
Okogie is still a year and a half younger than Thybulle. He was viewed as a top flight defender 2 years ago. MIN kinda moved away from him and now his value has cratered.

Only if he comes for vet min (just finished his rookie deal). Presents the same problem as Thybulle in being unplayable on offense.

Yes, MIN has a lot of guards, because Rosas had "talent over fit" vision. So we ended up with only one player at PF position. With Connelly known for finding talents in draft, I expect us to use our four picks in order to improve our roster. So I don't see Okogie in MIN uniform next year. He was exposed against some smart teams such as LAC, they intentionally left him wide open to double team Towns or roam in the paint. Okogie is still an elite defender, but we just can't afford playing him and Vando at the same time.
Saying this you might not find better teammate and person than Josh. A true professional.

Nowell strength is a mid range shooting and elite touch on short jumpers. At some point this season he was top10 in efficiency in shooting mid range jumpers.
Someone thinks that he can share some playmaking load and MIN can partially replace DLo with more production from Nowell and Edwards, but I believe that our young players are not ready yet. However, as bench scorer Nowell might be the best in the league. MIN can't give him more opportunities because we have one of the best C&S snipers in Beasley.

Re: Paul Reed
I personally don't know much about Nowell as I didn't get to see him in the playoffs. I certainly hope more Minnesota games are televised next season because Anthony Edwards by himself is worth putting life on hold for a couple hours to watch. In regards to Reed, I think like others have said on here...He's very similar to Jared Vanderbilt. All hustle and heart at the moment with very little skill and certainly no real defined basketball skill (like being able to hit an open three). The hope is at they develop obviously and I certainly liked what I saw out of Vanderbilt during the playoffs this year. As far as attitude goes/swagger,etc...Paul Reed has some. He's very confident in himself and he has said that he'll someday be an All star. That doesn't mean a whole lot obviously, but he did say it. I also remember Markelle Fultz saying he wanted to win MVP and ROY in his first season. Either way, the work ethic seems to be there with Reed and I certainly hope he can take the next step and become a starter for us. It'd be great to end up with Bobby Portis or Chris Boucher type of growth so we'll see.

Re: Paul Reed
To me he looked very promising. He held his own in the Playoffs playing important minutes.
Today es a good small ball backup 5 who brings hustle and athleticism. If he continues to develop he can also be a 4 and extend his minutes and production, then his carreer maybe can take a leap.
He has showed signs in the G league of being more than a hustle guy, its on him to improve and translate some of that into the NBA game. I think he has for sure the potential to do it.

Re: Paul Reed
Reed is the perfect complement for Embiid's drop coverage.
The last playoffs showed that if you want to play a good drop guy like Embiid, Lopez or Horford you need a great switchable defender next to him like Timelord or Giannis. Having that switchable guy allows your center to stay on the paint without compromising the 3 point line.
If Reed adds a corner 3 to his arsenal he can play next to Joel and stretch the floor. He's has all defense potential already and Embiid can cover for his inexperience at times.

Re: Paul Reed
I agree that Paul Reed should start in place of Thybulle next year. He should be practicing his 3-ball all summer.
