I'd venture to say,
8 out of 10 posters would've voted bust over stud
at the time of the Celtics drafting him.
His success, and where he stands now,
Is imo one of the great Boston sports stories.

I was the only poster here who actually predicted we'd draft him.

I incorrectly thought we'd trade up to do so. In my defense, management shared the error. They tried to trade up, failed, and him drop in their laps anyway.

I didn't think he'd be available. Clear talent and athlete.
So I was happy he dropped, then decided his knees (which everyone knew were problems) must have been made of tissue paper and he'd never play a game...lol

br'er fencer. wit all due wespekk. any of the many data scientists on this board can easily go back and find mangIna's post advocating trading avery bradley to doc for one of the clippers late lotto picks and pieces to git williams. this is back when he was listed at like 6 8 too. the athleticism plus hand eye pop off da tv and gwab u by da ur lil debbie. this was early in the college season too not around draft time.

but this aint no great shakes. mangIna hitched her wagon to the dwagon and has made many more bad calls than good in her long career of prospectin fer dem one in ten thousand fellers

Well i remember Rob wasn't even considered the best big man prospect on his collegiate team. That his conditioning, motor and attitude were all suspect. Add these to his over sleeping post draft, and again most would be saying - just another bigman bust.

Now years later, imo he's the key to winning #18.

There were some medical concerns as well (artery condition in his legs), and that was probably the biggest reason his draft position dropped.

If we're talking about just some pain or discomfort he's gotta be out there, this is the finals. Don't think we'll need him as much against a potential Golden State matchup.

I can't even imagine the tolerance of pain of these professional athletes.

Could there be some long term implications?

Meniscus tear could be a nagging thing. I don't know if it's just pain tolerance or he could be worsening it by playing on it.

Rob is a future multiple DPOY if he can stay healthy and miraculously recovers from his knee issues.

He is also a good ft shooter for his size. Perhaps we should draw more plays for him near the rim to keep it simple sometimes. Isn't it proven that good ft shooters are potentially good 3-point shooters? Maybe in a season or 2 Rob Will for 3??

This young Man, needs to get all the medical procedures that are necessary for continued progress, at the NBA level.

I think Rob should sit out game 1 and probably game 2 as well. Just stay in Boston and get as ready as possible for games 3 and 4. Theis should be able to hold his own against Looney.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Timelord has nearly 100 more blocks than missed field goal attempts in his career.

Missed FGAs, reg season + playoffs: 241
Blocked shots, reg season + playoffs: 340

What if Phoenix offers Ayton for Rob Williams?

I don't think one can get fair trade value for a guy with a health track record like Rob's. The other team will assume that the Celtics know about even more negative things than have been disclosed.

To me he doesn't look right out there, but even injured he's so much help... hard to bench him if he can run up and down the court and play defense around the rim. I say lay him, if we win this game our chances go up more than if we lose this one and win the next one... this one is important. If we lose this game, sit him.

wouldn't work. Ayton is getting a max contract. rob is on a bargain contract - salaries wouldn't match so trade wouldn't work. ayton's new contract is gonna be at least double what rob is making.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)
