If he had this team and was going to keep Ayton, Jabari Smith seems like the obvious pick for anyone.

Man! I wish Jalen Williams was still going under the radar! But his elite talents are beginning to show out in the combine. He was originally a late 2nd to undrafted and has already worked his way up to first round and even potential lottery conversations after day two of the combine.

I guess my point in this is..................
Just because a prospect is listed in the undrafted or late 2nd range doesn't necessarily mean they don't have lottery talent/ potential high end impact. Even draft scouting being an imperfect oft " hit or miss" process with your level of success correlated to the amount of time and research invested as well as the level of ability towards the comprehending of/ or envisioning of fit and environmental and situational variables. High end low cost talent is hidden all throughout for those with a discerning eye and open perspective. :D

Phoenix apparently spoke with Andrew Nembhard.

I think it's Safe to say that we're definitely exploring alternative options for Payne! And that we're finally starting to take the draft a bit more seriously as a cost effective way to fill roster needs! :D

Another really great versatile defender ( wing) that we could look at in the mid to late 2nd to the undrafted pool is Vince Williams of VCU. He's 6'6 with a 7'0 wingspan. He's absolutely ELITE defensively!!

VCU's Vince Williams is an elite defensive prospect. In fact, opponents are shooting just 4-for-27 (14.8%) on jumpers off the dribble when Williams is the nearest defender, per Synergy. Among top-100 teams, via KenPom, none are forcing turnovers more often than VCU.Mar 2, 2022

Players - The Vince Williams Thread | Page 38 | Ram Nationhttps://www.vcuramnation.com

https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/vince-williams-nba-mock-draft-stock-vcu-rams-interview
Opponents were just 4-for-29 (13.8%) on jumpers off the dribble on possessions when Williams was the nearest defender, per Synergy. According to CBB Analytics, during the minutes when Williams was on the court, other teams shot worse than 30% on non-corner 3-pointers and from the midrange.

He was an irritant and menace on the defensive end of the floor, constantly forcing turnovers for his defensive unit, which fares significantly better with him playing relative to when he was not. Very few players have notched the level of productivity Williams just showed when it comes to key defensive metrics (block percentage, steal percentage, defensive box plus-minus) and offensive metrics (assist percentage and 3-point attempt rate).

Some of the other players with that impact in recent years include: Herbert Jones, De’Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II, and Draymond Green. Within that group, Williams had the highest field-goal percentage both at the rim (68%) and on 3-pointers (38.7%).

Herb Jones, who was a standout rookie during his first professional season in New Orleans, is a particularly interesting comparison for Williams — who sees the similarity in their games.

https://www.noceilingsnba.com/p/the-versatility-of-vince-williams?s=r
The 6’6” senior forward did everything for a good VCU team, posting 14.1 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 3.0 APG, 1.6 SPG, and 1.1 BPG.
Perhaps the best thing Williams will have going for him is that he’s a real shooter. This past season, he knocked down 38.7% of his attempts on 5.6/game. e scored 1.375 Points Per Possession on them, per Synergy. His ability to absorb contact, move his feet, get set, and knock down a jumper is an NBA-level skill. Since 2012, only three other Division One college basketball players took more than 100 three-pointers, connected on over 36% of them, made over 80% of their free throws, had an assist percentage over 15%, posted a block percentage over 3%, and had a steal percentage over 2%.

Suns need a backup PG and or a PF/C who is around 6'9 and mobile enough to swing to SFs

So......... for the PF, Dominic Barlow, Leonard Miller, or Moussa Diabate ( IF you're really looking for a super raw Jonathan Isaac mold).
Maybe Yannick Zsosa ( Ayoung raw version of Capela). But with higher ceiling due to his greater ability on the perimeter and his offensive potential?
Personally I'd pick Barlow over the rest as he's still a bit of an unknown. But he's really good, very versatile and a very good shooter. Especially from midrange!

But both Moussa Diabate and Ysnnick Zsosa will likely be available from the undrafted pool!

Also Josh minott is really good too. But more of a rich man's Isiah Roby! But a long, springy, great defender all over the floor!

@GOK I haven't followed who the Suns have talked to or scouted but what are the ranges of the guys we're seemingly interested in? Keen to get a feel of how high up/low the Suns are looking to get back into the draft.

I didn't know he wrote a Suns blog. I did know the other DX guy, Givony, posted on realgm before he started draft express.

He's the exception though. Super rare for his kind to reach that level. Hard work is not enough, it's also networking and getting to know the right people.

We could really use a very strong isolation/ microwave scorer. I know that the suns have really shown interest in Max Abmas as a potential microwave scorer off the bench. We also probably have interest in Terquavion Smith who's projected in the mid-first round. But let me offer a second consideration of great value from the undrafted range! The player that I'm suggesting is...................

Antione Davis of Detroit Mercy.
He's only 6'1 with a 6'4 wingspan, But he's lightning-quick with a very shifty dribble and strong handle and an ultra-quick release on his shot. He's shot 42% on his FGs' / 37% 3PT/ 88% FTs'.
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/antoine-davis-2.html
I think he could project similar to a Jamal Crawford/ Jordan Poole type scorer, only smaller and quicker/ shiftier. His stats are comparable to Jordan Poole! Check out his scoring, shifty dribble, and quick release. :D I'd love of combo of Iziah Brockington at the 3rd rotation guard slot. And Antione Davis (Detroit Mercy) at the 3rd shooting guard slot blowing up offensively, and creating havoc. Those two would be my backcourt two-way contract options!
(Full scouting report from Adam Spinella- 15 minutes)

Davis is very stable and consistent. He's actually further along in what Jalen Suggs was meant to be. Think of a younger Malcolm Brogdon without the injuries. And at a more affordable cost obviously.

Tari Eason is actually a stellar 2 way versatile defensive wing with strength, size, and elite athleticism. He's basically OG Anunoby 2.0. A good trade for the Cavs 14th pick would be:

Crowder/ Craig/ (Lottery protected) first for Cedi Osman ( 7 million unguaranteed contract), Okoro or Windler ( Cavs choice) / 14th pick. The Cavs are on the cusp of the playoffs and would much rather have a veteran wing contributor ( or two) as opposed to more rookies needing to be developed. Getting both Crowder and Craig give them great wing depth for that run without either being a long term commitment. And the Cavs get a chance at a much better pick than 14 once Paul's gone and our roster will look significantly different.

We cut payroll and get to replace Crowder with a younger, cheaper more athletic option in either Eason or Liddell. OR we might just fall into one of Duren or Mark Williams at 14, which would allow us to slot a more aggressive defensive version of Ayton in at the 5 on a cost controlled contract so as to fill any hole at the 5 should Ayton be moved for a Durant or some other Big name option. Also it'd give us even more cap flexibility in 23' to add a big name in a star laden 23' free agency in Paul's last yr with us ( perhaps even our PGOTF)???
