From undrafted to top 60 in mockdrafts in just days is unheard of. From rank 100+ to 49 post draft combine. Better than draft stock for sure. So its either hes really doing good in private work outs or hes just really out of the radar and they are just seeing him for the first time. But yea hes possibly a second rounder. I would be shock if he became 1st rounder.. so he is the prospect better than draft stock.. i guess not anymore because he ranked up quick.
Not sure. I saw a lot of him because he's been playing in the Aussie league. He's definitely something, but he's also a project on a project.
I wouldn't spend Boston's second rounder on him. But undrafted, sure, I can see that.
Perhaps they're just getting around to reviewing tape of the lesser known players? Dunno...
I don't really rate any of the NBL guys this year (Dieng, Besson, Sotto, Mojave King...Hukporti is playing another season...)
Thoughts on Dieng? Since he's the one gaining the most "buzz".
Had an OKC fan asking Aussie fans that the other day, and my opinion wasn't the consensus. There are people here who rate him. I'm just not one.
He was frankly putrid to start the year. He looked both soft and weak, and his shot was purely theoretical. Looked ok, but never went in.
He improved a lot as the year went on, and it happened suddenly. So...if you believe in the various aspects of his game being maximized, you've got a tall, fluid, athletic enough wing who can block shots and shoot threes.
For me, you have a tall guy who doesn't maximise his size enough to be a defensive hub, and isn't quick enough to guard NBA wings. And I don't trust his shot at all. I saw someone comping him to Kevin Knox, and that doesn't seem totally ridiculous. Michael Porter as a 29% shooter, maybe.
He's young, and like I said, there's plenty here seeing the upside. But in the OKC thread, I suggested using a #12 on him (which was the point of the question) was a bad choice, but using their 30...or even packaging the 30 and 34 to move up...made more sense. He's a second rounder to me, but there's enough 'almost' parts, and youth, that I can see the upside appeal, even if I don't believe in it.
