How do Warriors Fans feel about Kevin Durant?

Post#1 » by hippesthippo » Sat May 28, 2022 10:50 am

Just curious.

On one hand, your team was coming off a Championship in '15 and a 73-9 record in '16 with all of that being accomplished with a mostly homegrown core [minus Iggy and to a lesser extent Livingston, Bogut and .. West?]. With two time unanimous MVP Curry backed by Klay and Dray, the team was still clearly a contender.

On the other hand, signing KD made the Warriors arguably the greatest team ever assembled, but it was seen around the league as kind of a bitch move and turned the Warriors into villains. KD snatched a couple FMVPS from Steph and then decided he was good and moved right on out. Still, that team had to have been fun to watch for longtime Warriors fan, right?

Seeing all the KD threads popping up lately has me asking how real GS fans really feel about KD.

Personally, I'll always see him as a cupcake regardless of the fact that he's at least a top20 player all time.

1. GSW needed to make moves after that 2016 finals loss. Bogut was falling apart and Barnes was terrible.
2. The individual brilliance of Durant helped a lot to get this team into 3 straight finals. They would have been contenders with a lesser player as replacement and probably won another ring, but wouldn't reach the same success without KD.
3. Curry is and always was the most important player on all those GSW teams. He's still underrated as a franchise player to build around.
4. I think KD is overall a good guy but he comes over a bit weird/douchy sometimes.
5. I didn't particularly enjoy watching the Curry-KD-Warriors all that much. Much prefer the 2015 and 2022 teams with drafted guys.

How could you like this **** as GSW/Curry fan? He is a douche…

GSW could sing Al Horford in 2016 summer and we would totally fine with him.

We don’t really think about the past. He ain’t a part of the squad and we have a next man up mentality. Right now the focus is on winning a chip.

If he would signed in Boston back in 2016 and that he would won 1 or multiple title he would have a chance to be the best player and have the credit but with the warriors this is more of the fact that the warriors helped him more to win the title that the other way

I think he gets unfairly criticized. He contributed significantly to two championships and elevated an already historic team. He was a bit off note though with a hint of petulance about him and detractors seized upon and magnified those bits to create drama. I wanted him and the Nets to make the finals because (1) he's a great player and (2) to give him and everyone else some kind of resolution to the open questions left unanswered by him joining the Warriors.

IMO he's ..... OK?

I mean he's not loved like a core Warrior guy, but he's not hated either. He just is. I feel like Warrior fans care less (for good or bad) about KD than most other fans around the league.

Agree with this.
I think he made a poor choice to team up with Kyrie but it was his choice to make and he gave it all when he was playing for us. Cant really ask for much more than that.

Durant has sneak dissed curry and Kerr multiple times and he liked this tweet:

“ Kevin Durant was better than Steph curry both those years everybody knows it bro. don’t try and kid urself. This mf curry needed another MVP and 3 all stars to get the job done trash ass”

So I am 100% out on Durant. Will always cheer against him. No respect from me

If you hate KD as a warrior fan that’s plenty fair,
That doesn’t mean we have to listen to basketball lies about Durant not being the alpha then or he wouidnt single Handily raise their ceiling now.

Even giving the all nba teams merits :
Durant is only worse than Giannis and Tatum .
Curry is worse than booker .
Lol so yea.

He was a hired mercenary, I’ve never really liked or disliked KD, he worked out for us for a few years and it was fun.

I sort of feel sorry the guy though, he clearly has some anxiety and personal demons that have overtaken his decision making. The move to GS was excellent from him, but he messed it up by leaving. He could have like 4-5 titles by now, all with FMVP’s if he stayed. Shame, but whatever, I’m glad he’s gone.

Probably about the same way Heat fans feel about LeBron James.

I thank KD for being a main piece to win championships

I believe GS would have filled his spot with talent anyway and could have won the championship KD just made it easier

IMO his insecurity/ego cheated us from seeing a great dynasty

I think GS will win again, BKN struggles but would welcome KD back as an old vet who plays for a exemption like HOF Bob Mc Adoo for showtime Lakers.

Most fans have a favorable view. Contrary to what many call it as a weak move, he fulfilled his contract with OKC and signed in the best possible place for him to have a chance to win the championship. The downside ended up being so top heavy in talent, by the time they played Toronto, the team had terrible depth. His signing with the Nets and needing GS to help facilitate that trade (and the injuries to the big three) ended up giving GS enough flexibility to create the depth this team has today and regroup in two years to draft a nice core for the future. I do think if GS signed Horford they would have been able to accomplish the same thing. So mostly positive but don't want to see him have more success than GS/Curry so now we hope he doesn't win another Championship while not necessarily hating the player. I guess the best word is appreciative of his time at GS yet indifferent now.

Kd is cool. I don’t hate or love him just kind of indifferent. I think him playing on the team it really magnified why his style of play isn’t the best or preferable to me. He’s a midrange sniper and he loves to isolate there. But his offense doesn’t make a defense move so teams can sit on his moves and not really have to do much. He doesn’t attack the basket enough and his shot distribution doesn’t incorporate enough 3s that teams have to scramble to defend him. Teams were totally content with him shooting contested jumpers and he obliged them. That rocket series he was getting absolutely mauled but he didn’t have a counter, he still doesn’t have a counter. But our counter was curry who ended up closing that series out.

To break down those Kd seasons: That 17 season was magical. 18 was ok but you could see our offense start to change to make Kd the focal point and it just didn’t work as good. Maybe we slept walked through the season but you could feel the change. 19 season was just awful. Every other story was about Kd leaving. You could feel he was out the door. The team played like they were walking on eggshells. At the end of the season we knew he was gone when he took 5 shots in a game.

It was just a corporate feel. He was just using the team. I think the Warriors side saw a team that would dominate the league like the old Celtics team used to.

I don’t have any issue with what he did. Had he stayed longer he would have found acceptance here and be loved as Curry. The only issue I have was how he left. He already made up his mind to leave but he left everyone blowing in the wind. He left Myers scrambling like hell to make a deal. He wouldn’t let Green know so he couldn’t take care of his own contract situation. And wasted two years of Curry’s prime. So in summary he’s a selfish individual that burns people, but then again most people are.

I loved when he joined GS after the league suspended Draymond in the 2016 finals and don’t miss him now that he is gone.

Better question for Warriors fans is do you think he get his jersey retired after only three season, but with two chips, two Finals MVPs and three Finals appearances?
