I would be SHOCKED if he plays a complete season next year. If he does that, I'll be jazzed.

I'm optimistic about his talent....but not his ability to stay healthy.

I think there is essentially no way he plays 82 games. Really if he averages 10-15 minutes a game for 60+ games it's a major victory.

5 players in the entire league played 82 games last season. So I think him not playing 82 games is a pretty safe bet. Also a safe bet that Curry, Draymond, Kuminga, Moody, etc don't play 82 games next season.

Wiseman is gonna be on a minutes restriction anyways, but why are we worried about it? He might get more minutes in SC than SF.. if gets 500-750 minutes next year, great. Gives him time to learn or us time to shop him

Imagine the betting odds on Looney playing 82 games this year though.. woulda been at least 100:1
I don’t disagree just got me thinking about statistical anomalies and Looney is a living breathing one at this point

Add in every playoff game for Looney and it's over 100 games played.

Have we heard anything about his rehab / health since they shut him down for the year?
Summer league is in a little more than a month, I would think he would get some time there as the guy can use as much playing time as possible.

If the Warriors believe that he'll still need time in SC then it's best to just trade him on draft night for the highest pick they can get. Because not only is he earning 9.6M that has huge luxury tax implications; they'll also have to decide on his 4th year option (12.1M) in October. And I doubt they'd be willing to commit that kind of money to a player they don't even see as NBA ready yet.
Or in other words: if they keep Wiseman and choose to exercise the team option on his final year, they must be confident that he plays a solid role for the team next season and plan accordingly. Solid role probably means consistent minutes as at least the first back-up 5. If that's too rich in their mind, just trade him for a Rookie (plus maybe a useful player) who they can then happily send down to SC.

If he'll get minutes in SC? It's guaranteed he will, so basically you're saying he has to be gone by the start of the next season. I think that approach is folly. Wiseman has had effectively one truncated season. Nearly every big man takes 3-4 years to fully figure it out in the NBA. He needs more years, but GSW has shown it can get good production from not fully ready players. Trading for a draft pick gets you nothing. Even high lottery picks tend to take a couple of seasons to fully contribute, but Wiseman will not garner a lottery pick with questions about his knee. So, basically you're throwing him away to save money. That does not make sense to me. He's a unicorn -- a huge, athletic player with offensive skills. We marvel at Looney's new found ability to get his shot off in the paint -- Wiseman makes shots in the paint in his sleep. He needs to be a far better defender and rebounder to stay on the floor, and he may never pan out, but players like him rarely come along in the draft. I don't think you give them away until you know what you have.

Same reason as Kuminga, Poole and Moody spent time at SC -- more available minutes. Now, I've said it before and I'll repeat myself, I don't think JW will benefit all that much from SC aside from conditioning and getting used to the pace. I think the thing he needs most is to work on team defense, which he'll mostly get from playing up with Dray, Looney and others. Therefore, I'm hopeful that any SC stint is short in duration.The-Power wrote:a8bil wrote:If he'll get minutes in SC? It's guaranteed he will

Really the bar right now for success for Wiseman starts at being healthy

There is plenty he could do in SC. They need to completely break him down and build his game back up from ground zero starting with the fundamentals.

Wiseman is going to be a cheat code for the Warriors next year. His ability to play above the rim will open the court for our perimeter players. Just be patient. He is a walking double double. He doesn't need to be great next year, just healthy.

Wiseman needs to watch film on loon to see how he can impact the game as a C on the warriors.
Wiseman needs to look at wiggins, to see regardless of how high you are drafted, its ok to do the small things to help your team win and be great in that role.
Wiseman needs to see steph and dray to realize its not only about getting buckets.
Wiseman needs to look at klay to see how hard the road to recovery is, but is worth it.

None of us, you included, have any idea the current state of his game.

Re: James Wiseman 2021/2022
I think that is a truism. We will see next season where he's at. In my view, JW was a product of his pre-NBA training. Penny Hardaway trained him to dribble between his legs, shoot, take it full court, etc. Nice eye candy for the draft, but not really useful. He really needs to learn positioning and to play high to get rebounds and protect the paint. He needs to learn how to rotate to help on defense. He needs to learn that his height alone is enough to change shots, so he doesn't need to jump...he needs to move his feet. If he gets these things down, he'll get a lot of minutes and he'll get his points, if for no other reason that he can put back anything within 6 feet of the hoop. The difference between JW and Looney and their ability to score down in the paint is stark already.Scoots1994 wrote:Big J wrote:a8bil wrote: Same reason as Kuminga, Poole and Moody spent time at SC -- more available minutes. Wiseman will be in his third year removed from college. He's not your ordinary Rookie that you'll want to put in the G-League just like Embiid wasn't after he didn't play for his first two seasons.
I could understand having him play some minutes in SC if he was projected to not be fully in shape to start the season. But Wiseman should be ready for training camp and pre-season, and he should show enough to stay with the main team.
If not then yes, I don't believe it's smart as a team in luxury tax hell to commit 22M over the next to years to a player who isn't even seen as an NBA-ready back-up. Perhaps Lacob says ‘screw this’ and does it anyways, but I'm skeptical.
Either way, I don't think it's at all ‘guaranteed’ that he'll play minutes in SC. It's a possibility and I voiced my opinion on what to do in that case. But this isn't me effectively calling to trade Wiseman – this is me saying that Wiseman should have shown the coaches enough to make them believe he can play a solid role (see McGee) for us next year so that they find consistent minutes for him.
