Brown + Smart + multiple No. 1 picks just wasn’t worth it for Harden.

If I was Ainge I wouldn’t trade Brown for Harden either.

I don't think Harden gets BOS over the hump in the next 2 years or that he re-signs so I can't say that I totally blame them but they would have had a better chance.

And trading one of them for butler/george/harden/whoever only to see that player leave and you get nothing in a year has them end up where exactly?
There's no comparison at all between the lakers once they added lebron and the Cs situation, the lakers had to go all in to win now because it was a very limited window, everyone knew that.
If you win a ring it’s worth it...just ask the raptor fans
Who did Toronto have to go through for a title? It’s also very different when you’re team has never won one. It takes a lot of luck outside of the talent, a out of shape disgruntled Harden far from guarantees you a title.
who cares who they went thru, does the chip or ring shine any less or the record books dimish their chip?

The lakers had Lebron when they traded for AD?
I dont think they wouldve traded all those guys to pair AD with Kuzma and Rondo.
I thought that was blatantly obvious even for a "rival team fan"![]()
n Bos would've gotten to keep tatum,smart....tatum was quite good already
Yeah and contention windows for a mid 30s Lebron and a young rising star in Tatum are exactly the same...
windows can open n close anytime, brown/tatum aren't going to be Celtics forever, career altering injuries can happen any time

Not trading for Harden=Harden for the Nets
If the Nets eliminate Boston in the playoffs in consecutive years, then they lost by not trading for him.
Sure you can say the trade wasn't worth it. But if the nontrade makes your opponent stronger, then did you really make the right call?

Ainge problem is he is too emotionally attached to this assets, sometimes you just need to let it go in order to go for the ring. Right now, they are capped out as a ECF round team not having enough stars to move on.
He will be a case study on missed opportunities by a GM.
Stop trying so hard
We have Tatum/Brown locked up long term and are currently one of the best teams in the east without our allstar PG.
But sure, we could have traded Brown for someone who doesn't want to play here. Sounds like a great GM
nah seriously, break em up

What a bump. Ainge drafted or signed pretty much everyone on this Celtics squad. It's as much his team as it is anyone elses if the Celtics pull this title off.

Yeah, but imagine where they'd be right now if they'd traded him for George or Butler or Harden!

Ainge's primary roster building is clearly pretty solid.

So Boston's biggest issue preventing them getting over the hump...was coaching?

Honestly, it was always really freaking stupid to say things like "Boston is far away from being a contender." Even back in 2021 it looks bad because this is a core that's been knocking on the door to the finals ever since tatum's rookie year. One rough season doesn't change that.

It wasn't even coaching. Brad was a fantastic coach. It was just a matter of needing more experience. Tatum just turned 24.

Nah, it was being healthier than the other teams they faced in the playoffs for the first time in 15 years. Brad would have almost certainly made at least 1 finals if not for playoff injuries to Kyrie Kemba and Hayward.

Re: Ainge misses out on another superstar, overrated GM
Man, there were so many of these threads over the last few seasons. I always said, the success of making it to the conference finals way before we should have, put high expectations on guys like Tatum and Brown, when all we needed them to do was to continue to mature and improve.
Thread after thread of “should’ve traded them for Harden, AD, Butler or PG”… such bad takes. If he had made those trades, the Celtics would be in worse position today as all of those guys would’ve left.
Also, does anyone else go through the thread and “and1” all the dumb posts so the poster goes back and looks at how stupid they were? No? Just me?

So they have to get desperate and blow up the team that just came out the conference is what OP is saying.. I'm not a Celtics fan but it seems like OP feel like his personal team not in a good situation to compete

Actually, the converse of that argument turned out to apply. It's pretty perfect. Indeed, that post is a converse all-star.
