He isn't always wrong. No need to dump on him like some other hacks in the media.
Sometimes he has sources, sometimes he doesn't. In this case, he admits right in the article that nobody told B/R anything about OG wanting out, our about the Raptors shopping him. It's 100% made up.
Also, he throws out TONS of these pieces. Getting to claim he was right on some % of them is an old trick in journalism.
It’s hard to make something up when you straight up say that OG hasn’t directly said he wants out or is upset - he’s just reporting, as he says, that rival executives suspect that OG might be upset. Then he says pretty clearly that the executives may just be trying to get OG. I don’t know how you can criticize him for this. He doesn’t make any extreme claims here.
The only weird thing a few weeks ago was when OG was saying that the plan was to give the ball to Pascal and get the hell out of the way. It made me wonder what he was really thinking, because OG has said before that he wants to be "that guy", and did a decent job at the beginning of the season with Pascal out and Scottie still fresh.
But OTOH, he's smart enough to know he's been turning the ball over a ton on his drives. He's had some injuries, including to his hand, so I wasn't going to be too critical. But now with Scottie AND Pascal, what the Raptors need is an OG who knows his place in the pecking order (3 and D guy), the way Boucher figured out his role (hustle big) earlier this season. But is OG willing to accept that role, and the <25 mill salary that goes with it?

OG not worth that much. Simons is another Jordan Poole in the making, and the 7th pick for a 4th option 3/D guy?

Lmao this is fake news.
But I'll happily take Simons, Hart + 7 if that's what Portland wanna do. Overpayment? Absolutely but thats how valuable OG is

1. Barnes - ROY with the potential be a perennial all-star.
2. Siakam - An all-nba player for the second time in his career and a quality defender whose also already proven he can be a top 2/3 option on a title team.
3. OG - One of the best, most versatile defenders in the league, hits 3s on volume, young and on a great contract.
4. Precious - a young 3+D big on a rookie scale contract for the next two years.
5. VanVleet - A consistent performer who'd be a quality starter on pretty much every team, but he's a UFA after next season.
6. GTJ - good shooter, solid defender, quality starter, but he's a UFA after next season.
Honestly, considering contracts, Precious might more valuable than OG. Younger, and cheaper, otherwise they're pretty much the same player.
I think about how many unprotected picks it would take to pry a guy away from us (returning salary player value notwithstanding), at their current salary:
Barnes - 3
Siakam - 3
OG - 1+swap
Precious - 1+swap
Vanvleet - 2
GTJ - 1
Of course the looming FA of FVV and GTJ changes things somewhat, so FVV might be a 1+swap but that's what I'd be asking for. Precious rookie scale deal probably bumps him up to 2.
So that's kinda how I arrived at Precious being more valuable than OG, just slightly.

I'd love to convince these teams that Gary can help them just as much but that 1year left on his contract is killer
Anyways if the King are interested in offering up 4pick plus extra you definitely need to have that conversation

lol then the Raptors make the deal with POR for 7 and take the guy they actually wanted for 3 salary spots cheaper. That would be such a Kings thing to do that I could see it happening too.

Gary Trent sure would look great next to Fox and Sabonis.

Re: [Jake Fisher] The word surrounding OG Anunoby’s trade candidacy
REALGM HAS THE BREAKING STORY.
https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/267181/Jazz-Blazers-Interested-In-Trading-For-OG-Anunoby
The Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazers are looking to retool their rosters this offseason. That has both teams reportedly looking at trading for OG Anunoby of the Toronto Raptors.
Anunoby hasn't directly expressed dissatisfaction with his role in Toronto, but executives around the league have heard he would be open to trade. Anunoby is reportedly unhappy with his role in the Raptors offense that heavily featured Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet and rookie Scottie Barnes.
Utah and Toronto have been previously linked via trade rumors around Rudy Gobert. Those discussions have never yielded anything, and it's unclear if that's a direction the Raptors would want to go.
Portland is set up to be very flexible this summer. The Blazers could create over $30 million in cap space, or they can operate as an over-the-cap team and use their $20.8 million trade exception. Either way, they'd be well-positioned to add Anunoby, as they rebuild their roster around Damian Lillard.

Not sure if the Raps see it that way. OG covers the C pretty often. How many dreadnought Cs were seeing significant minutes in the WCF/ECF?
But the main issue is that Fred and Pascal are now firmly in their primes and are All-star/All-NBA players. You gotta support them. To trade OG for a FRP makes no sense for a competitive team (like the Raptors).
Josh Hart is pretty much the same age as Fred and Pascal. We should expect Trent, Precious and Barnes to get a little bit better. Keep in mind this team was competitive with OG missing half of this season.
*sigh* I like Hart, and it would be cool to have another 'Nova guy on the team, someone for Lowry to canoodle with when he's bought out late in the season after next.
But OG is the most overtly physical of our "big 3" forwards. We're not that imposing a team unless another physical forward or C is coming back, perhaps in a separate deal of Trent for a C.
Precious is the wild card here. If the organization sees him as someone who deserves to start going forward, then OG is probably the odd man out. Maybe. Man, this is hard.

Who at 7 is projected to be clearly better than OG? This isn't a great draft at the top, it's flat and deep. And there's so much variability in mocks that you see a guy like Daniels anywhere from +-10-24 that I don't know where he goes and if there's going to be lots of picks that look like a reach.
Oh... and Josh Hart expires with FVV and GTJ so that ain't good.
I guess it depends who Masai likes. If he likes a guy at 7 i think Hart/7 is eaasy
I think on value it's fair and probably even biased to the Raptors, but there's still considerable risk. Masai was deciding between Barnes and Suggs. He made the right choice, but plan B was a disaster. Since Ujiri seems really conservative as a GM I doubt they do anything. They're in a position of strength right now.

This whole "story" has a Klutch odour to it.

Beyond Masai's love for his Nigerian son (OG), all the winning with OG fully justifies his importance
2021-2022: 31-17 with him
2021-2022: 17-17 without him
All-time record of 196-105 with him
We have been a 65% Win team with him
The only move I can foresee with OG...is moving him to SHooting guard. He is too unique with his size

I sort of view Achiuwa in that Serge Ibaka role, in that he can start based on matchups and/or be in closing lineups late in games.

Re: [Jake Fisher] The word surrounding OG Anunoby’s trade candidacy
I would first look to move Trent before of any talk of moving OG and see what that yields. OG is too valuable is only 25.
This would create multiple positives for our team and cap:
- Creates more opportunities for Scottie
- Creates a starting role for Precious
- Settles the issue with OG/Trent making combined $48M~ a year.
Moving Trent should be our goal if Masai doesn't see him a longterm fit. I personally dont see how our cap situation will work with OG, Fred, and Trent all getting north of $22M each.

SAC seems like the kinda team that would give up 4+ a future pick for OG/GTJ without checking around the league to see what other offers are out there.

Without OG there is no long boys line up.
I do wonder how Barnes, OG, and Pascal can all fit.
OG would have to really work on his handles and become a fulltime 2, or you move Barnes to point guard full time.

I think OG is looking for a bigger role and I wouldn't blame him. I would prefer to move Trent but there is definitely a possibility they move OG if they find a deal they like.

Re: [Jake Fisher] The word surrounding OG Anunoby’s trade candidacy
He's a very good role player. If you can trade him for an upgrade you do it in a flash. Maybe one of the players in this draft might suffice. I think the Kings have eyes for Siakam so the 4th pick probably won't happen. 6, 7 and 8 might be a strong possibility though.
