Tim Connelly Introductory Press Conference
I think it is appropriate to open a separate thread for the first press conference of the new POBO of our beloved Twolves. I believe that already today we will understand many things about the future of our team and the will of our POBO.
"...I want to compliment him, we all expected that he would take up the game, we have prepared the plan race on him, we have doubled. And, as usual, he did what he wanted..."

I just watched it. Tim has a good sense of humor for sure. He was definitely not a slick and polished guy up there. A little too honest and regular down to earth guy.

Yeah definitely no BS pr sales talk talk with this guy. Quite open and too honest in his answers lol. He was bit nervous and genuine, not easy since some of the questions were BS fluff lol

I love that he doesn't seem like one of those people who's going to act like he's the smartest guy in the room. It's not all about him.

Re: Tim Connelly Introductory Press Conference
People were scared about an external hire because they didn't want the band to break up. Doesn't seem like that will be the case.

I was more excited during Rosas' press conference but we know what he did so I won't use that as a barometer for Connely's future success.

Re: Tim Connelly Introductory Press Conference
(I thought I’d move this discussion over here instead)
This is a concern of mine as well. My read on Connelly for years is that he’s good at drafting, but his personal attachments to the players makes it hard for him to trade them, and he re-signs them too early and for too much money.
To me, a good GM has to do all three well - drafting, trading, contracts. His job is to worry about the longterm state of the franchise, so he has to be willing to move anyone, and he has to negotiate good deals for the team. Any GM that has a 2nd round pick become MVP is going to have a successful team, and being a good drafter provides the fuel to make trades or sign good deals (younger, cheaper players always coming up behind). However, I want to see him improve his trades and contracts. Maybe Gupta will help, if he has Connelly’s authority.

I thought that comment was interesting, especially pertaining to D'Angelo Russell. I do think Connelly was referring to management (Towns has had 7 top decision-makers) and coaching (Towns has had 5 head coaches), but it's a comment worth keeping in the back of your mind.
Connelly has said in Denver that the idea of trading players feels a little gross to him. He'd prefer to not do it. I think we're most likely to see him maneuvering in the draft as opposed to straight player-for-player deals, unless it's a situation where his hand is forced by management or player.
Makes me wonder if he's capable of doing a big splashy trade.

Re: Tim Connelly Introductory Press Conference
There are quite a few trades in his transaction history. Not too worried about him not being willing to pull the trigger on something. I found it interesting that he drafted and traded both Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell to the Jazz. They were probably two pre-arranged deals where Utah took them, but still got credit.

Trades are entertainment to many but they are very life changing to the players, organizations, and families… it’s always much deeper than what presented in the surface

Re: Tim Connelly Introductory Press Conference
One thing I heard this week was that Connelly had a clause in his DEN contract that allowed him to get out of it, to meet with other teams, and that other teams wouldn’t owe compensation if he decided to leave. For a guy that has had so much longterm success, he was being very underpaid by the Nuggets ($3 mil a year), and this probably allowed his agent to include a clause that would remove some of the major roadblocks if a better deal came along.
Historically in the NBA, these types of coach or front office moves aren’t common when the guy is under contract elsewhere. When Connelly said yes to the Wolves, most analysts thought we’d be sending the Nuggets a pick in compensation. Turns out, they get bupkiss.

It sounds to me Lloyd was given the #2 position, so I’m not sure Gupta sticks around after a major demotion.

Re: Tim Connelly Introductory Press Conference
Doing the full local media tour today. Jonny K has a new article up after a sitdown, Tim was on with Chad Hartman for about 20-30 minutes, I think he was on SKOR North (haven't seen it posted yet though) and just wrapped up a full hour with Barreiro.
