Re: Jalen Brunson obsession
we already know how this is going to end up if the Knicks sign Jalen Brunson. Quickley is going to play better than Brunson and the Knicks are going to get laughed at for not going the cheaper route by giving Quickley the starting job.

The Mavericks had every chance to sign his father, we got a Brunson at least.

Brunson in the playoffs this year for a conference finals team:
21.6/4.6 rpg/3.7 apg on 47/35/80 splits.
If Quickley finds a way to blatantly out-play that production, then that is a GREAT problem to have

What a dumb franchise we couldn’t do this for a Lebron or Durant but instead we’re gonna get hit with obvious tampering charges for f’in Jalen Brunson

Brunson would be a great pickup, even if he alone is not a franchise player.
If we can couple signing Brunson with moving off of Julius, it would be a much better utilization of the cap space. Big improvement at a position of need and raises the floor of the team by a good margin.

It's going to be viewed as money/assets that could've been used elsewhere.

Yeah I really can't begin to understand the backlash for the Knicks being interested in signing an actually good player at a position we've so desperately needed to fill for over a decade now. But I shouldn't be shocked by anything anymore from this board lol. It was the same with FVV too.. Brunson's game is about as sure a thing as you're going to get to translate to a new team too. He's deceptively quick, skilled, can finish at the hoop despite his size and can catch and shoot 3's pretty well. That's always a useful player to have. He's now proven it over 3 playoff series with pretty high usage as well. Would be a solid signing in anywhere from the 18-25 million range IMO.

I know Clem is joking, but that Knicks technically could offer Rick that kind of contract and no one would know, since contract information when it comes to the coaching staff is never released.

Fine, then you've got a valued asset, one way or another, to move elsewhere down the line...Knicks aren't winning a title next year. If IQ and Brunson ball out then the Knicks are in a great spot.
Also there aren't any other FA's worth spending that money on that the Knicks can actually attain this summer.

I'm talking Julius falling off a cliff season.

Tempted to say "He's baaaaaaack!" after it looked like this was a wrap. Agree Brunson would be a great pickup. If IQ can be a decent PG/SG that could be a neat combo. or if we somehow finagled getting Ivey (going by poster here's enthusiasm about him) that could be a poorman's 2021 Dallas backcourt. Get rid of Randle and who knows, maybe 2nd round some day!

It's not tampering to hire an assistant coach who has strong ties with both the Head Coach and President of the team. Even if the Knicks weren't pursuing his son, this looked like an obvious hire for Thibs and Leon because of that connection.

Especially since Leon's son gets an agent's commission off both Brunsons' contracts. Leon out here playing 5-D Chess with Dolan's money.
