Re: 2022 NBA Finals | (3) GSW VS. (2) BOS (BOS 1-0)
Is it just me or are the Warriors reluctant to give enough credit to the other team other than the “they got hot” lazy take?
Draymond:
“We pretty much dominated the game for the first 41, 42 minutes," Golden State Warriors defensive guru Draymond Green said of Game 1 of the NBA Finals, which his team trailed at halftime, "so we'll be fine."
Curry:
"We obviously scored enough to win," said Stephen Curry. "It's just, they make 21 threes, and some guys who had career nights shooting the ball, that was really the difference, based on how it felt on the court."
Kerr:
"It's going to be tough to beat Boston if they are making 21 threes and getting 11 combined from Horford and White,"
I know these are all snippets and they did give them some credit but it sounds like they’re really just throwing that loss up to an anomaly. Yet the shot quality that the Celtics were getting was far more superior than that of the Warriors. I’m sure they know they have to defend a lot better but it just didn’t seem like they were critical enough on themselves after game 1.

I mean, they did get improbably hot from downtown. It doesn't take anything away from them, if they continue it they will deservedly win the series.
Inadequate perception I reckon it's from the Valium

Draymond's numbers are stupid too. After 41 minutes, the Warriors' lead had dwindled to 2, as the Warriors had been outscored 17-5 until that point in the quarter. Some "domination".
Banned temporarily for, among other sins, being "Extremely Deviant".

Seriously, I thought it was up until I looked 10 minutes ago. I'd think you'd get higher ratings outside of Boston/The Bay if you held it tonight.

You keep saying this but I have high doubts Warriors shoot better than that as well. They’ve only hit 20+ 3’s once this playoffs and it was at a way worse percentage.
You could see the Celtics had so many lapses on defense in the first quarter on Curry, I just can’t see him getting those types of looks again. The thing is, once the 3’s aren’t dropping for the Warriors, where does the offense come from?
Wait what? Do you ever watch the Warriors at all? They aren’t usually dependent on 3’s to win. Especially, not the historic like shooting the Celtics got in the 4th quarter of Game 1.
Outside of Curry and Klay, they aren’t some perennial 3 point shooting team. Even then, both of them shoot a decent amount Of mid range shots or in the paint.
If you watched the WCF, Mavericks typically shot way more 3’s than the Warriors. In Game 1, Wiggins/Green shooting 11 combined 3’s is not typical for them.
So how do they beat this Celtics defense outside of 3? They really don’t have anyone other than Curry and Wiggins who gets to the basket but neither are at the level of Butler or Giannis in forcing the issue when the outside shots aren’t falling and running their scheme isn’t working. Klay doesn’t seem able to beat anybody off dribble anymore. The way I see it, GS is going to live and die by the 3 in this series. They are more than capable but that is how they are going to have to do it.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Yup, outside of Curry the Celtics' drop scheme is going to play fine, especially if Kerr hand-delivers them lineups that havent worked all season. The Poole/Klay/Iguodala/Dray quartet is our worst that got 50+ minutes this year according to tracking, and it failed us in the 2nd Q, Kerr did it again to start Q4.. complete failure on our coaching staff's part

That's the problem with the Celtics, they get complacent when they are ahead or at home. We'll see if they learn to overcome that on the biggest stage

This is pretty funny. Not satisfied with a win, it appears that Celtic fans need the opposing team to say something like, "wow! are they great or what! We don't have a chance!" After 1 game in a 7 game series.

Is it just me that finds Draymond playing in the Finals and podcasting about the finals strange and amusing at the same time? It's like the same concept of a player-coach to me.

More so just be more critical of their own team. I think just because they led for more than half the game doesn’t spell out all the problems that they had. At the end of the day it’s one game and I would think their vets will know how to handle going into game 2.
Some of the quotes just came off as brushing it off to an anomaly rather than focusing on the critical part of what went wrong with their defense which clearly gave up all kinds of open looks (and not just in the 4th q as shot quality indicator showed they were giving up good looks prior to that). I’m sure they’ll adjust either way so it’s not really a big deal, I was just surprised at the comments.

You didn't include the quotes. Draymond says the Warriors "dominated" for 42 minutes.....Curry saying "career nights" about the Celtics shooting. Unnecessary and condescending. They just have to say "tip your cap to those guys, we have to play better." It happens all the time. No one's looking for any great outpouring and it's only Game 1. Not really classy saying the other team played over their heads to beat you
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

Boston IMO looks so much better than they did against Milwaukee. You can see the growth of their guys and the confidence of their role players.
Hopefully we get 6 more of these and have another team do it again next year.

But Horford and White did have career night shooting. I would bet anything that never ever in their life will White and Horford shoot a combined 11/16 from 3Pg. That is such a rare event why wouldn't t you point it out.
And while the Warriors weren't t dominating the Celtics they easily had the upper hand for most of the game going into the fourth quarter. I mean they had 90 points going into the fourth going against the N 1 defense and were up by 14 (or 16 I don t remember)
Also I m sure they said some positive things about the Celtics but you just choose to highlight the negative ones.

I do hope Harden comes back as well and I want to see Maxey in year 3. And we need good role players around them. Morey’s got a lot of work to do.
Back to NBA Finals: I can’t believe I’m rooting for Celtics because I predicted Celtics to win it all after they were leading 2-0 against Brooklyn. All of my friends said no way. They were laughing at me. I want to have that last laugh so badly lol.
Sixers just need to surround Embiid and Harden with 3-and-D guys, similar to how the Rockets were built before. Morey also needs to unload Harris and his albatross contract, I just don't think he's a difference-maker. Maxey is a definite keeper.
Believe me, I'm still pinching myself that the Celtics really got this far this season. I always knew they were capable of being a really good team, I just thought it'd happen next year instead of this year. Just 3 more wins and I can finally rest
Celtics fans like you make me want to root for Celtics even more. I feel like this your year.
Agreed on everything you said about Philly. I believe in Morey and I want Harris gone this summer. And I just want Philly to have one run like the Celtics are having right now in Embiid’s career that will bring title to Philly. Of course Celtics are three wins away still, but I guess you know what I mean. It’s not that impossible.
I thought Embiid should have been MVp but if this gives extra motivation for next season, that bodes well for the sixers.
replace Harris with a winning player, you're a contender. Yall got a gem in Maxey.
