Are Tatum’s ode to Kobe sweet or corny ?

Post#1 » by Kingdibs19 » Sun Jun 5, 2022 12:10 am

First he texted a deceased Kobe’s number. And posted this screenshot in his instagram.

Now he’s wearing the same practise jersey Kobe did when he worked out for the Celtics.

I think it’s corny. He wants so bad for the narrative to be that he’s the next Kobe and going way out of his way for that story to be written.

I think it's fine, probably idolized him growing up and all.

There's nothing "corny" about honoring the deceased. Grow up.

It’s sweet but somewhat misguided because even Kobe would say to emulate Jordan .

It’s almost an insult to idolize Kobe so much it bears a slight bit of ignorance to Jordan i but I have realized Jordan is still a league figure on an opposing franchise.

It’s sweet and just show the impact Kobe left on the game. Kobe is your favorite player’s favorite player.

Was never a big Kobe guy, but come on now. This isn’t random. Tatum had a personal friendship with Kobe. People honor the deceased of those they had personal relationships with all the time; especially when you not only had a relationship with them but also idolized them.

It’s completely fine and to be honest, normal. You also have to remember Tatum is still basically a kid; he was 23 a couple months ago, lol.

Tatum is part of a generation that shares everything online. Ten years ago this would have felt corny. Now, it's just the reality of how young people communicate. I think it's sweet.

I think it’s corny to think this dude has some kind of hidden agenda when he idolized & trained with Kobe.

He didn't grow up watching Jordan and actually had a relationship with Kobe as a player.

It's corny, but it doesn't matter. Tatum is a human being not a Celtics Basketball Robot. So he can idolize whoever he likes as long as he balls out for the Celtics.

It’s fine. Tatum is still a kid. This is what 19-year-old teens do.

It's fine, but wearing Lakers colors while playing for the Celtics it's just too much.

That's not really what it is though. This is just his way of motivating himself. Don't get me wrong, it's harmless, but it's kind of corny. Sharing the text after the Celtics won game 7 was corny. Something tells me no one would know about that had they lost.

Idolizing & being mentored by Kobe one could say actually got him to the finals, Studying & embodying the outline of someone who went 7 times and getting there also at a young age is definitely not luck, its a blueprint.
Kobe was the definition of when preparation meets opportunity.
Tatums talent and skillset when mixed with kobe's tutelage & work ethic speaks for itself.

Giannis asked Kobe for a challenge
Then Kobe challenged Giannis to win MVP then Giannis did it twice
Kobe challenged Jokic to win MVP then Jokic won it twice
Gianna wore #2
The 2020 Lakers dedicated the championship to Kobe, AD yelled Kobe before his game winner
Booker honored Kobe and got to the Finals
Giannis asked what next
Kobe challenged Finals MVP
Giannis won Finals MVP
Now Tatum doing something similar to what Booker did and plays with similar style to Kobe so why not

The fact that he shared it is what makes it corny

To some yes, sending a text to a dead man screen shotting that sent text and posting it to your social media can seem corny. I don't think you have to be immature to see it that way even if you don't agree.
