well, while I hate when Tatum has an Ugly game, there is an extreme benefit when it happens.. that is Tatum bounces back with a fury.. I can't recall Tatum having anything less in thee playoffs anyway.
2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..

He needs a sports psychologist. He shouldn't be getting bullied by Steph in the paint.

When he got box-and-oned and he decided to commit to playmaking instead of trying to finish through the 4 players watching him, obviously.

Only 19 potential assists, too soft for 20.

I think it’s easy to be upset from a surface level that Tatum shot poorly in game one but part of being the best player on a team is being able to adapt and he did that masterfully. Not many of the shots he took and missed were bad, he played elite defense and was making good decisions all night.

I’m not immune to emotionally lashing out at Tatum but a big difference between what I saw in Game 1 and what I think produces winning is exactly that ability to change and make his team better. I feel like it would have been a lot worse if he went say, 8-32 and we lost because he was trying to be “the guy,” like a Kobe may have done.

Tatum is averaging 26/6/6 in this postseason. Only three other Celtics players have done that in a single playoff run (minimum 10 games) -- Havlicek (2x), Bird, Pierce.

Shouldn’t be his team, though.

I don't get the 'his team' stuff, honestly. Completely bemuses me.

It’s a well rounded team, but Ime himself has said that everything starts with JT. It’s more a figure of speech thing than anything, though.

I get that people say it, and NBA people say it. Every team I've been on, I've figured they were MY team. Maybe not in week 1, but soon enough.

Some I was lead scorer, some I wasn't. Pretty sure Marcus thinks the same. I'm much more worried about guys understanding roles. There are teams where me taking the final shot was a terrible idea, teams where I had to have the ball on the last play purely because I could properly feed a dominant big, and others where I had to take the shot.

Guys not getting their roles is bad. But hell if I'm ever thinking of a team as belonging to someone else. Just a strange turn of phrase to my ears.

I'm paraphrasing but they were debating JT's superstar status on NBA Today earlier and Zach Lowe was like, "What are we even doing here? He's first team All-NBA, had 47 vs the Bucks on the road with his team's season on the line, he's the best player on a Finals team. Jayson Tatum is a superstar!" And Richard Jefferson agreed.

Lowe and RJ also addressed the criticism that JT is too "inconsistent." Basically said it's a lazy take and ignores that he's faced 3 elite defenses in a row and that the other team's whole job is to slow him down. They said if you come away thinking JT is inconsistent you aren't really watching the game. There's two teams on the floor and you can't just do whatever you want at all times.

Tatum is clearly a superstar, which is exactly why he needs to play much better. I know the Warriors throw everything at him, but we need him to play like an MVP the rest of the way.

I still think we're asking too much of Tatum. I never thought JB would get to #2 status on a contender but maybe he's just enough there but we have nothing close to a #3 on this team. And generally when you think of a team devoid of a 3rd player with only a big 2 for real championship runs you think of your Kobe and Shaq or Wade and Shaq ect.

Not that I'm saying we can find a #3 but we could really use an all-star level PG to not only do playmaking and scoring along side Tatum but also take the ball out of Brown's hand so we don't have the constant gamble system of him having to either score or turn the ball over.

It just feels like we're putting too much of an offensive ask for a non LeBron, non Giannis styled player with really only Brown as a threat on offense next to him to win a ring. We might get one this year but it's not a traditionally talented enough team to do that.

Maybe we'll find someone in the off season to get, our own Jordan Poole like guy we can bring off the bench to help lighten the significant load. A version of a healthy Tyler Herro for the Heat.

Great basketball player, but he's soft. He can't carry a team, but he can be a key component in one.

For such a soft player, it's pretty impressive he key componented his way to a 2-1 lead in the finals.
