Ya know -- if somebody had told me that there would be a thread characterizing Tatum as sweet or corny, I would NOT have expected it to have anything to do with Kobe.

Where is the option for “both?”

Tatum idolized Kobe and had a personal relationship with him. Him doing dedications and/or honoring the deceased is sweet.

Sharing a screenshot of a chat with a deadman is pretty corny and tacky. It’s not about him reading that text for inspiration, it’s more about him telling everyone about it on social media.

Ultimately, it’s also harmless. Sweet, a little corny, but nothing to get worked up about either way.

Seems kind of corny, but kind of sweet. Honestly though, just seems genuine. Tatum just seems like a quiet, shy dude. Just wants to hoop and be a dad. I don't think he has a lot of charisma or swag like a lot of NBA stars, but just a good dude. I find it hard to believe anyone would really hate on him on a personal level.

It's cringey yes, but today's game is all about narratives to boost your legacy. If Steph Curry had done some odes or tributes before his other finals, he'd have been gifted a finals MVP he doesn't deserve by now.

The media needed to grab something to create a story because otherwise this series is/will be boring. Look at the ratings so far.

As long as Golden State has big leads, and don't have a repeat of game one, the media will end their nonsense (Tatum/Kobe).

After game two the media will shift to Golden State and Curry. A Golden State game three win will be an all in on Curry's legacy and being the Finals MVP.

to you youngsters it's corny. youngsters are "so tough" nowadays. it's all about respect for his mentor and friend. if it's corny or it upsets you, sorry for you and your life. kobe looked up to mj and he embraced him. kobe embraced JT and JT isn't forgetting. if JT wins a ring and uses what kobe taught him, then kudos. just because kobe didn't help your guy doesn't mean to hate, but that's on you... your guy shouldda asked like JT humbly did.
