Anonymous scouts skeptical about Shaedon Sharpe following NBA Combine

Post#1 » by Rip32 » Mon Jun 6, 2022 4:19 pm

https://www.on3.com/teams/kentucky-wildcats/news/anonymous-scouts-skeptical-about-shaedon-sharpe-following-nba-combine/

It wasn’t all positive for Shaedon Sharpe at the 2022 NBA Draft Combine. Despite continued buzz from national media about the Kentucky guard’s growing stock and rise on the draft boards, scouts remain skeptical one month out from draft day.

According to NBA Big Board Director of Scouting Rafael Barlowe, Sharpe’s minimal body of work at Kentucky and throughout the draft process has teams hesitant, if not turned off entirely.

“I wouldn’t take him in the top 10,” one anonymous scout told Barlowe. “It’s too small of a sample size. Someone’s gonna get burned.”

My nightmare summer would be blowing our cap space for the foreseeable future to land Sexton and Mitchell after drafting Sharpe.

Someone will blow a lottery pick on this guy, and history will not be kind. Does anyone really think a kid that has barely played any competitive ball, won't even practice against, you know, real people, and then is doing simple crap and doing it slowly really is going to make it in the NBA? So many talented players in this league absolutely fail. There's just not indication he will be an exception.

Sharpe is a weird story. Allowed the measurements part of the combine, but no athletic testing or scrimmage. He has amazing hops, but so much in unknown. Glad I don't have to make the call.

This is not thread worthy. This is over two weeks old look at the date on the article next time.

Rumor is from a "anonymous scout" and the guy saying it is a nobody not even 10k twitter follows. This is the guy whos taking over for Chad Fords failed business on bigboard. Hes just trying to get some views. If there was truth to it you would be hearing from the big boy media not this guy.

The rest of the stuff is just copying quotes from other media.

Yea, this is one of those stories that is not really worth taking any stock into as an outside observer. If it's true, it's something Weaver/all front offices will know is true. Also could be a team wanting him to fall. I'll take it as seriously as reports that Jaden Ivey is going #2. And by that, I mean "who knows, maybe? But it's draft season, and about 5% of rumors are reality."

Obviously if true, I'd put it at a 0.5% chance he goes to the Pistons, and I wouldn't want him. Part of the reason why I would want him is if Weaver has good intel on him, along with a great workout, etc. If he rarely ever practiced at UK, that's a bit of a red flag for a player who already is a mystery.

Don’t do it Sacramento Kings! The size, talent, shot making and confidence won’t work if he won’t play NCAA! Too risky!
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Such a gamble. People gambled all the time back when you could draft high schoolers.

Edited the OP to show less of article. If people want to read the rest they can click the link.

It’s all noise until we get to the draft. Someone will take the risk. No idea if it’ll be us.

Seems like a non-story or a "scout" basically wanting Sharpe to fall to them when they're outside the top 5, top 6?

I preface by saying I have no idea Sharpe is the right pick but this story ain't it

The Golden Rule of draft rumors the weeks leading up to the draft? Don't believe anything you hear although I gotta say, for us Lions fans that know this, a lot of rumors in the final days leading up to the draft pegged the Jaguars to pass up on the consensus #1 in Hutchinson for Walker and it actually came to fruition to many Lions fans delight so... who knows.

As far as Sharpe is concerned, we all knew he was a mystery box so there's really no groundbreaking news here. We'll just have to trust that Weaver did his due diligence if he took him.

Total bunk. Anyone knows that an 18 year old with insane athleticism is a likely home run. 22 year old college seniors may as well just stop entering the draft as long as there are uber athletic 18 year olds around.

Sounds like Charlie V and Ben Gordon all over again. I do not want Robinson at all. I’m confused why he has so much value.
