No, in a straight Sign and trade the Suns would only be able to take back like 19 mil in contracts at most. It would have to involve multiple complex trades to make Rudy's 35 mil fit and chances are slim to none that the Suns do that.

I remember when I mentioned to some Suns on here that Ayton was gone because they wouldn't pay to keep him and they said I was crazy. I guess I'm not so crazy after all.

To think that Suns could have had both if they tried a bit harder at that time. But i don't think that Suns would want anything in return if S&T would be an option. Brunson would probably have to be involved, picks and maybe even more.

I would prefer Luka coming to the Suns, but seeing the garbage Suns fans are ready to take for DA in a trade Brunson won't be such a bad option.

I'd argue that Yes, Ayton is that much better than Gobert offensively, at least in terms of the depth of his bag.

We hoped that he would develop enough to deserve a max contract. I think we should just pay him but honestly, he is frustrating. He should be dominant but is only dominant when the guards are spoon feeding him. On the flip side, when he was hurt, guys like JaVale, Bismack, Jalen Smith and Frank Kaminsky were averaging like 18 and 9 while starting and being spoon fed by our system. We hoped he would be a dude who could control parts of games BY HIMSELF, but he just isnt. I would still just sign him and patch things up but wouldn't be surprised if we move on for the right package. (THE RIGHT PACKAGE BEING HILIGHTED!!!)

Jazz retool and get younger, can keep Mitchell happy
Suns go all in for short term title + get assets to retool once Paul retires

Rudy is significantly better than Ayton.

Hollinger just regurgitating what others have said. He's not happy. Teams not happy with him.
Suns won't let him walk unless they get a deal that keeps them in title contention. Grant is not it.

Well he's not worth a max contract, and it's a historically cheap franchise...I think a lot of us saw this coming.

What was your reason they wouldn't want to pay him though? There's a different between simply not wanting to spend that much money, and, he wants out, isn't happy, team isn't happy with him, got into it with the most liked coach in the league, gave up on the team, and has a slew of other personal issues that are concerning.

You are partially correct, but this is just another typical Ayton Suns hater post. Spoon feeding him ? What about the automatic mid-range shots vs Pelicans ? Being a major reason for reaching the finals and beating NO ? Suns fans forget so soon. Enjoy Poeltl! Man, I even need to check how to spell his name.

Lakers can't even do sign and trades

Sign-and-Trades. Teams are prohibited from signing a free agent pursuant to an agreement that the player will later be traded to another team unless the free agent being signed is the team’s own free agent. In addition, these “sign-and-trades” are permitted only if (i) the contract is for three or four years, (ii) the first year of the contract is fully guaranteed, (iii) the contract is entered into prior to the first day of the regular season, and (iv) the player finished the prior season on the signing team’s roster. The maximum annual salary increase for a sign-and-trade is 5% of the salary in the first year of the contract. A team may only acquire a free agent via a sign-and-trade if the team’s Team Salary post-transaction and at all times thereafter during that Salary Cap Year does not exceed the Tax Level for the then current Salary Cap Year plus the Tax Apron Amount (see Section I.F.(3)(e) above

Any team wanting to acquire a player via sign and trade can't go over $153 million in salary for the season. Lakers are already well above that.

You missed the part where I wrote "I would just sign him". His midrange game has never powered us past a team when everyone else is off, he never took over games. Max contract guys are better than stellar midrange shots, you have to show you can be a killer and he is not to this point.

Because he was asked to screen for Book and Paul all game ? Or maybe hitting 3s when they are out is coincidence ?

If the fit would be so terrible, I guess they could send those guys over as well. No skin off my back.

i would love him on the Spurs. if any team can unlock him, it would be SA.

ALL bigs are dependent on guards getting them the ball, and his scoring has gone DOWN with Chris Paul on the team. Think about that.
These are the opinions of one lifelong Spurs fan, nothing more

I think they will just sign him and give him more of the load. It is the smartest thing to do in this situation.
