I think they should give Marc Jackson the color role opposite her and see how it goes. I don’t mind Kate but her + Alaa is not a good duo. I think her high energy act would be balanced really well with a low key personality.

100%. There's no way in hell they'd fire the franchise's first woman PBP.

She'd have to do something really really bad for it to happen because online mobs would cry misogyny if they fired her(even though the Sixers gave her a job in the first place).

I think she's going to be here for as long as she wants to be.

She'll be with the organization as long as she chooses. Sadly, it has much less to do with the quality of the game broadcast as it does politics and reality - there's not a chance that a pro sports organization will fire a gay woman in a position that visible in this day and age.

She dots all the i's and crosses all the t's regarding doing the network promo spots and in-game ads and having knowledge of the game. She has commented on numerous occasions on the rarity of being chosen for this position, and has clearly made it known this is a destination type job for her. She's here to stay unless she decides to leave on her own.

She worked with Jackson a couple of times last season, and the only difference was the further amping up of Jackson's commentary. Other than losing Alaa's banality, very little difference.

Zu's retirement was one of the biggest dampers on this past season. The regular season wasn't even half as enjoyable without listening to him calling the game. Not even joking.

Agree completely. Already looking at options for watching next season, because there's no way to listen to that night after night.

Only for you because you seem to enjoy it so much given that you feel a need to comment every time.

Lol what are you talking about, the thread is right here, between this and game threads you had like a running diary about how it was ruining your life all year. I don’t even remember the last time we talked about this other than when you were whining during the playoffs and I suggested going to a bar or something.

Just want to be sure you're always apprised of how I'm feeling at any particular moment. Saves you having to ask.

I guess I am in the minority because I don't think Alaa is that bad. Do I think he's great? No, but there are worse color commentators in the NBA.

And Kate isn't as bad as some people think either. I never thought Zumoff belonged with Merrill Reese or Harry Kalas. He was an above average commentator but he never seemed serious to me and always came off a little corny. I think Katie is a worse version of Zumoff. But a worse version of Zumoff should be good enough for Sixers fans who thought Zu could do no wrong.

I'll take her over someone like Tom McCarthy. I'd be happy if they replaced her but I'm fine listening to her call the games next year. Not exactly a ringing endorsement but she doesn't make the game unwatchable in the way Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy do.

I might have disagreed with every line in your post, with all due respect (in Mark Jackson's voice).

Jackson is a hideous analyst, and while I'm not a fan of Van Gundy he isn't nearly on that level of bad. Breen makes the broadcast watchable because he's about as good as there is.

Two problems with Alaa - his knowledge of the game hasn't progressed beyond his playing days, so he makes up for it by being a clownish homer.

McCarthy is a bad comp because he's just flat out bland, like milquetoast. Kate would be okay if she would cut down the small talk and laughing, stop involving herself and Alaa in the broadcast and just call the game, and not treat every moment like it's a game winning 3 pointer at the buzzer. Tone down the screaming and silly nicknames. Unfortunately, that pretty much describes what she is as a product of the ESPN school.

Cue Sixerscan's commentary of my comment ...........

To each their own, but I disagree with your take on Zu. He was seamless in every single broadcast. Word for word, game for game, every single season. Extremely creative and so well researched on every opposing player. Totally adept at amplifying his calls as games would heat up-- he was Philly passion personified. Consumate professional who loved the city and loved the game.

I feel like Kate is better suited for college football as opposed to an 82 game season. Not trying to be rude whatsoever, but for me personally her scream tone is too unpleasant for my taste and her attempts at humor can be a bit tired and cringe-worthy. Maybe she gets better, but right now just comes across unauthentic as if she's trying too hard. Still, I don't foresee them making a change unless Kate decides to walk.

This x 1000. Zu was a true pro, smooth as silk, knew the game and the players inside out, and was Philly through and through.

My only problem with Zu was that he was a bit too much of a homer, but he is a legend no doubt.
always a jump shot away.

There are some announcers who love their job but isn’t really good at it. And if they cover a different job, maybe they’ll be better.

I think Kate covering college football will be better suited. Or Alaa covering Duke basketball.

I just dont think they are that suited to cover the NBA.

You guys make a good point with Kate being much better suited to college football, in a different place every week. Even doing national college hoops games, as she has more than enough knowledge for a PBP person.
