Hello haters, here is why you are 100% completely full of crap. The #1 argument you all have against the WNBA, the one that gets repeated endlessly and can be found stated in various forms by multiple posters on this very page is this:

I don't watch, respect or enjoy the WNBA because there are lots of men who are more skilled and athletic basketball players than the women in the WNBA.

or stated somewhat differently, it is sometimes this:

I only want to watch the best players in the world, aka men

right? that is the beef in a nutshell isn't it?

well that my prejudiced friends is a pile of nonsense. and here is why:

if you are a sports fan, and i am going to assume that you are because you are here, then I can guarantee that you know from personal experience that the following is true:

YOU have enjoyed watching many different sports events that did not feature the best players in the world, including basketball games in which the game was being played by players who could be beaten by many other more athletic and skilled men.

And yet you still enjoyed the hell out of it. right?

need examples?

ever watched the men's Final Four and enjoyed it?

like i said.

ever watched a high school basketball or football or rugby or ultimate frisbee or any other game and enjoyed it?

ever enjoyed watching Thug Rose or Amanda Nunes or Ronda Rousey or any top woman MMA fighter?

ever enjoyed watching world junior hockey?

ever enjoyed watching a pickup game at the park?

ever enjoyed watching the best women tennis players?

ever enjoyed watching your kids playing any competitive sport at age 9 or 11?

i sure as hell bet you said yes to at least one of not several of the above. And that list could have been a lot longer.

and here's the point: NONE of those games involved the best players in the world. Every one of the players in every one of them would get their asses kicked by the best male athletes in the world in their sport.

But guess what? you watched and enjoyed those games. how could that be if you only like watching the best in the world? how could that be if knowing that there are men who are better than the people playing ruins every sports watching experience?

newsflash: because it doesn't.

what matters is competitiveness. that's what makes an sporting event fun. when two players or teams are giving it all they've got. anytime you see that - if you are a sports fan - it will be compelling. unless of course you are a macho wanker who insists that it's boring to see women kick each other's asses. except again it isn't. especially when these women may not be as great athletes as the men who play at the highest level, but they are still damn skilled and getting better all the time.

either way, if you are too insecure to support a women's team then the least you can do is shut up about it so that the other people who do enjoy it – and who understand that having a WNBA team in Toronto will be a huge boost to the popularity and growth of the game in Canada and not unrelatedly the success of the Toronto Raptors in the long term – can promote this opportunity without being drowned out by your cynical selfishness.

thanks.

This is the nonsense woke culture. The top high school players can mop the floor against wnba players. Lebron, Dwight Howard, etc, in high could have destroyed wnba Allstars. Women don't even like the WNBA, nor respect the product. Why should men ?

Why do you guys even care? So long as this is completely private money and we aren’t funding it through our taxes or anything, then it’s all good. If MLSE wants to fund a WNBA team for their own reasons knowing it will not be profitable, then all the power to them. I won’t watch it, but maybe others will.

wtf does this have to do with a WNBA team? Obviously the men would beat the women. So that should disqualify women from partaking in professional basketball? Or another female Toronto basketball team inspiring a generation of kids like the Raptors did many years ago?
I personally I couldn't care less if Toronto got a WNBA team, but you saying "Nonsense woke culture" then posting this dribble is as a means to dismiss female basketball was funny to say the least.

If it's just about watching the best in the world, mens college basketball should shut down since it's not nearly as good as the NBA.

What a shocker. A thread on the WNBA full of angry little boys screaming about how women should stay in the kitchen.

Don't watch the f***ing games and don't pay attention to the team if we get one. THere. Problem solved right? Nah. Keep spewing your immature little garbage. IF I DON'T LIKE IT NOBODY SHOULD!!! :x :x :x :x :x

Anyway, hope this happens. Sure my kids would love to go see the games and it won't cost me a mortgage payment for tickets and concessions.

Blah... blah.. I'm so woke. Blah... blah..

I watch wnba games when I can. I'd also go with my daughter when I can. But it's simply an inferior product on all level. Why is it hard to admit it ?

It's pretty damn good some games.

I don't watch college ball alot, but March Madness is an awesome gimmick that heightens the entertainment. Plus, I'm watching to scout the future NBA players.

Why do people not want the WNBA?
Not every sport is for everybody. Like sure, maybe you could get annoyed at all the cross marketing and pushing of a product you don't have any interest in. How is that any different than the endless stream of Nascar and curling commercials/ads?

Seriously? Like who gives a **** about driving fast? That's not a sport.

If WNBA could tap into that March Madness excitement or create another gimmick, that would go a long way in creating fan interest, and making it a viable business.

Perhaps, they get to select one guy from their G-league affiliate to play. If they win a small multi gendered tourney, the dude makes the parent NBA roster the next year. You get to see dudes fighting hard to get that contract, and use the women as chess pieces. Could be fun to watch.

With WNBA salaries increasing, starting up a new WNBA team doesn't seem like a great investment.

Would there even be any additional benefit for female Canadian basketball players by having a team in Toronto?

Getting more people interested and playing basketball is good for all basketball, including the NBA.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Does having another WNBA team actually accomplish that? And if that's the goal of the WNBA, there's probably better ways to achieve it.

If a team is coming to Canada, there should be some advantage towards Canadian players. MLS has a minimum requirement for Canadian players on Canadian teams.
