Boston's core is way better than ours. I think we need to be honest.

Joe Tsai is a fool for paying out a half a billion dollars for the slop that was put forth this season. Not including the money he wastes paying Steve Nash.

Boston & to a lesser extent Milwaukee are exactly why Marks is looking to maintain the flexibility to pivot/rebuild in the next year or two. Tsai is not going to continue to pay near record luxury taxes for first or second round exits. If this team fails to make the finals next year, Marks will likely look to shed salary, get a haul for KD, get something for Kyrie & rebuild around Ben.

Right, and I sincerely hope that even if Marks is still in love with this iteration of the team, he's developed some plan B and Plan C rebuild scenarios.

That said, what he does in the next couple weeks with Kyrie's contract could heavily impact all that. I'm thinking not only does the new contract have to be Nets-friendly, but it also has to be the right length for other teams to want it. Too short, and what's the point? Too long, and what GM is going to want to shackle themselves like that? And of course, Kyrie himself will have to like it. Talk about a quandary.

Indeed, right now it seems like Marks has a brief, ideal window to S&T Kyrie while causing the least amount of grief to KD. Because right now Marks can argue that Kyrie only averages 34g/yr, and much of that was caused by his personal decisions and beliefs, and that Kyrie refusing some version of an appropriate, incentivized contract made it impossible to resign the guy. Durant will still be pissed, but he's not a dummy, and will have to concede on some levels that Marks has plenty of good points in that argument.

By contrast, trading Kyrie in future seasons (and he's inevitably going to get injured again) would seem far more of an unnecessary slap in the face to KD without just cause. Well, that's my theory.

One other thing I'm thinking is that despite how unhappy KD & KI might become with the Nets one day, surely they must realise that the chances of them playing together on another team is highly unlikely, and that the Nets really did do everything they could to accommodate them here. Or would even those simple facts be too much for their pride and egos to handle?

Absolutely. If we don't make the finals next season, a firesale should occur. Simmons would be the only one I keep due to age and contract length.

I know that this is probably blasphemy to a lot of folks here but I've lost complete faith in KD. His weird loyalty to Kyrie even though Kyrie basically sold him up the river this season is infuriating, on TOP of the way he endorses Nash, doesn't want to play in a modern offense, and how horrible he looked in the first round, I would rather sell him while he still has something left in the tank than to play this nonsense game with him and Kyrie anymore.

They both should be embarrassed, but they're not. KD is spending his offseason beefing on twitter with talking ESPN heads, meanwhile Tatum and Brown are lining up their first title as a duo and will probably only improve from here. This is some real loser sh*t happening in Brooklyn.

Getting past Boston and Milwaukee is not happening with this half assed core and coach. It's not.

Tsai came in to this situation hugely out of his depth, and to me (outside of being predictably vulnerable to the craven CCP) has been a perfect gentleman and patient enabler of Marks and the whole team.

The one thing that people seem to forget is that billionaires (usually) care a lot about losing money. I don’t Tsai is smiling and happy about what happened last season. While he might like Nash as a person, I don’t think he’s going to keep him around simply because he likes him as a person and/or they’ve invested in a team together.

If Nash underachieved next year and the Nets lose more money again because fans don’t want to turn up to watch multi-millionaire players half-assing playing a child’s game during the regular season, I’d bet that Joe would let Nash go. There’s no way he became a billionaire and never had to let people go whom he actually liked.

Not necessarily. And you're not intrinsically *wrong* matey, but you're also not intrinsically *right* about billionaire things.

Fact: they're heavily-insulated against reality, and they can and do whatever they want, based on whatever partial-glimpse of reality they might be getting at any one time.

This is FACT, and you can source-check by searching testimonials from many, many peoples who've worked for billionaires.

My point is this---> Joe Tsai is in the Joe Tsai business. Meaning, he might turn on a dime and conclude that he's tired of being an NBA owner, or stay, firing almost everyone, or persuade himself that Marks has done everything right and that our failures are simply due to 'bad luck,' or any whimsical combination of the above.

This is how billionaires do, NyCeEvO.
Because they're heavily-insulated, see?
Because they have the outrageous luxury of picking & choosing the facts & reality they prefer to surround themselves with.

Notice any parallel examples across global issues & politics?
Oof, I hope so.

@NyCeEvO,
I was re-reading the thread just now and cringed about the way I talked to you just there. That's not right.

Just wanted to say that I apologise for coming off patronizing and absolutist there. Like I'm some 'global expert' on that shizzle, hah. Sorry again, mate.

we might be that sucker team. we need wings players badly because of how awful Marks has mismanaged this roster

This will mean we giving him Dinwidie's TPE ( 11m ) and taking Kess min. I'm not liking however you spin it.

Getting OPJ or anybody else in a S&T would hard cap the Nets. That won't happen.

The Hornets just hired Kenny. I guarantee they will be much more improved. It wouldn't shock me if they are better than us next season.

Happy for kenny, well deserved. He needs a young up and coming team, i think he fits perfectly there. LaMelo is going to be a star in this league. And i really love Bridges game but dude is a nut

He's a great fit for them, but if he hasn't updated his philosophy / improved he'll wind up as just another transition coach again...

Don't get me wrong I'd take him over Nash in a heartbeat, but a lot of Nash's flaws were shared by Kenny...

Eh all is not lost... I got to see the Celtics first hand the other night and they're not nearly as good as they're being made out to be. We're just in an unprecedented age of there not being a difference between first and second tier NBA teams.

Some of that is the rule change (whoever gets hottest from there wins), some of it is the old heads on their way out and the younger stars just establishing themselves but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they lost in the first round next year barring a Giannis-type leap from Tatum (Brown has more or less maxed out).

Telling me Curry is a better player is useless, he's not. However, he's much more smarter. GET A COACH.

Curry is humble enough to accept coaching and play in a system that moves the ball around...and he still dominates.

KD has a losing mentality. Doesn't want to be coached, doesn't want to play in an offensive system that generates open looks, he just wants to play ISO ball with his buddy who barely shows up half the time....and he's cool with it.

I don't see us winning with this guy especially after the way he got steamrolled by Boston. He looked so bad I don't know how any of you have any faith in him. The book is out on Durant: Double team him aggressively and he'll give away the ball. Maybe he needs to stop getting stoned before games.

Ball movement was a little better but it was basically chuck up as many threes as you can regardless of whether you're making them and then never make an adjustment when they're not falling...

I'd rather have Kenny, but again, given his own flaws, unless he's changed philosophies I don't think he would be the answer either...

In a world where you factor in defense... KD did not play well against the Celtics, but the fact that Curry has doesn't really move the needle when you look at each player's entire body of work.

You win and you lose as a team, and this Nets team as a whole got progressively worse as the season started to wind down...

That's true, but I think that's partly a function of how bad the talent on those rosters was. They had to follow the analytics, because they lacked super efficient mid range players.

Could be true as well, whatever the outcome the Hornets are going to be super fun to watch under Kenny.

There's a bigger gap on offense than defense.

Their body of work: KD needed Curry to win. That's essentially it.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
