Cole Anthony Starting?
It seems to me the FO has their heart set on Fultz being the PG. I am a pretty firm believer that opening night Cole Anthony is starting next to Fultz. I may be wrong. Not saying as the season goes on they will be the starting guards but I do think opening night they will be.
Is there a scenario where the board sees Cole outplaying Fultz? He continues to put the work in. Has shown flashes. Obviously has had some issues as well. Any chance he is our starting PG of the future?

I do think he will start next to Fultz at the start of the season but no I don't think he is our future starting PG.

Re: Cole Anthony Starting?
Cole is a problem we need to fix asap before he loses all value. There are many good wing prospects in this draft and the Magic need to do their work to acquire one they like by trading Cole, future pick, Ross, those assets imo.
I just hate that he is sucking up to coach and management. I know that is who he is but I just hope management understands this is a business and do the right thing. If they do not, I hope I am completely wrong and next year Cole becomes a plus defender, playmaker and efficient at shooting...yikes, seems like he needs to improve everything lol

He will be traded if the offer is right. I am not fan of him.

Re: Cole Anthony Starting?
We got the #1 pick. The tank is over. There is no reason to start Cole.
Either leverage him as a 6th man / bench spark plug or trade him while someone might see him as more than he is.

Re: Cole Anthony Starting?
I promise you that Suggs will be a starting guard on this team next year.
As catastrophic as his shooting was, he was still one of the best guard defenders in the league last year and is the exact player that Mosley wants heading the point of attack defensively.
Cole will battle it out with Fultz for the remaining spot. Drafting Jabari would make a Suggs/Fults backcourt more feasible.

Suggs was really bad last year. The starting guards should be Fultz and Harris/Free agent shooter or Fultz and Cole.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

He was REALLY REALLY bad last year.... but you don't give up on a 5th pick in 1 year. Especially when he was fighting injuries. He will be starting next year if he's not injured.

Sorry - but where is your evidence for this? I can understand not liking aspects of Cole's game, but this seems unfounded.
For the OP, I don't see him outplaying Fultz (especially after Fultz has a full offseason), but I do see him as a perfect 6th man and wouldn't mind him sticking around at all.

We need a starting SG that can actually shoot, either through the draft, FA, resign Harris, or trade. That is, unless we are gonna tank 1 more year, in which case we should start RJ.

He was a bad SHOOTER last year, but he showed he can be great at other parts of the game (namely defense and court vision\passing), so if he improves his shooting, he can be great

Not for me. Cole isn't a PG, he's a short shooting guard. He could be a great scoring sparkplug, but he has no business running a team. Suggs has a greater chance of settling his game and efficiency than Cole has of changing how his mind sees and prioritises the court.

In order for Cole to be nba starter anywhere, he has to become more crafty and simply smarter.

Re: Cole Anthony Starting?
Unless Suggs shooting takes a dramatic uptick, I just don't see how he starts next to Fultz. No way. So unless we sign a FA SG Cole will start. Personally I prefer Suggs come off the bench and be the primary ball handler when Fultz is on the bench. Let him sink or swim as the primary ball handler. Playing him next to Fultz would just put Suggs off ball which again unless his shooting goes wayyy up is not a good idea. On the flip side Cole needs to play off ball so putting him with Fultz should force him to do that. So same thing Cole sink or swim as off ball scorer. Id prefer Cole come off the bench as I still feel his destiny is a off the bench spark plug but I don't see how we have an option if no FA SG is signed.

Re: Cole Anthony Starting?
Like, I'd love to see a Fultz-Suggs starting backcourt next year, with Cole coming off the bench in a scoring 6th man role...
HOWEVER, in order for something like that to work, one of the two potential starters absolutely has to develop a reliable outside shot over the summer, if they don't then you're probably better off starting Cole with one of the two (likely Fultz) or a Gary Harris-type guy.

Suggs wasn't just a bad shooter but he was also very turnover prone, extremely questionable decision maker and would often throw errant passes to teammates that would take them out of position in order to catch it. Suggs would throw these bullet passes three feet above someone's head when they were standing behind the three point line in the corner. They would have to jump so high in order to catch it to avoid turnovers and then they would have to try to save it and it woukd kill the shot clock abd discombobulate the offense. He would also often take contested, unnecessary shots too early in the shot clock. Both Cole and Fultz were better than Suggs last year, Suggs was so horrible on offense even if he was great on defense.

Re: Cole Anthony Starting?
No way is Cole a starter on a winning team. He does have that score first alpha dog to his game and he does seem like an excellent teammate on the bench and in the locker room. I don't dislike the guy. He seems like a genuinely fun person to be around. When he knocks down 3s and gets to the rim for an easy 2 it makes up for his poor defense. I like him at the end of the bench as the 3rd string for either guard spot right now.
Suggs offense was far worse than coles defense. Yet he was a rookie playing through injuries so no need to give up on him. Just because he was the 5th pick is the most ridiculous reason for him to start. The 5th pick isn't far from where bamba and Mario got drafted right? Was there ever a reason for them to start year 1 or 2 or even 3? Suggs defense was pretty good so he should be able to carve out a meaningful career However good defense means nothing if you give the ball back too much. He had a lot of bad pass turnovers and committed a lot of offensive charges. And the shooting was horrendous. If we're trying to win next year he is backing up fultz. Fultz is a stud. If we're trying to lose again and tank 1 more year then start Cole and Suggs together.
I would personally like to see chuma get a chance to start at the other guard spot. He can guard just about anyone and he needs to hit the 3 at a slightly better clip...and his shot looks good so I think he can.
I'm ok with keeping Cole but as the 5th guard coming off the bench but if he can be used in a trade with other picks to net a better shooting guard I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
