My friend, flagrant fouls didn't even exist until 90-91. That gif shows a common, two-shot foul. The Lakers didn't even get to keep the ball on that play, and certainly no one was ejected or fined.


These plays weren’t the norm, though. Take a look at the Bulls vs. Pistons series in 1988, 1989, and 1990 as all games are available on YouTube last I checked.

First of all, a TON of fouls are called, way more fouls than are called now. Where are all here fouls coming from? Are they all on viscous clothesline fouls? The answer is no. Lots of slight contact fouls. You can’t say that you have have these regular death fouls and also look and see all fouls called and only a few very hard fouls.
