If the Celtics win the title, who's the Finals MVP?

Post#1 » by ROballer » Sat Jun 11, 2022 5:33 am

Through 4 games:

Tatum

12/5/13/1/0 3-17 FG 1-5 3P
28/6/3/1/0 8-19 FG 6-9 3P
26/6/9/1/0 9-23 FG 3-9 3P
23/11/6/1/3 8-23 FG 4-8 3P

Brown

24/7/5/2/1 10-23 FG 2-8 3P
17/6/3/0/0 5-17 FG 3-9 3P
27/9/5/0/1 9-16 FG 4-8 3P
21/6/2/1/0 9-19 FG 2-6 3P

Smart

18/5/4/2/0 7-11 FG 4-7 3P
2/2/5/1/0 1-6 FG 0-3 3P
24/7/5/0/0 8-17 FG 3-7 3P
18/4/5/4/0 7-18 FG 3-9 3P

Who do you give it to? It seems to me all have some major flaws in their potential arguments for getting the FMVP.
Might be one of the worst campaigns ever for a potential winner.

Curry should win it regardless of the winning team the way things are going

Brown probably

They're close enough at this point that whoever plays better in the final game(s) will win it, and if it's still close, the default is likely Tatum since he is the best player on the team.

Well it obviously depends on how the remaining two (putative) wins go. Brown gets my vote for now.

Tatum has been abysmal and reallt shouldn't be in the discussion, but given the narrative, he's in with a chance.

34% shooting on the number of shots he's taken is obviously bad and they're 2-2 in spite of him at the moment.

Tatum really has no case even Marcus smart seems to be playing better and basically bailing out Tatum .

So yes brown and Tatum threw away his best chance to win up to date .

Can't know until we see the next 2-3 games, IMO
Jokic 31/21/22
Luka & Oscar = 5 x 27/8/8
The Brodie = All-out energy
Nico Harrison = Jerry Krause

We will probably know better with how the remaining games play out. Anything can change with only 3 games remaining at most.

Kawhi got a Finals MVP with the Spurs for basically having 3 really good games while being subpar for the first 2. People will vote for who gives them a lasting impression.

Tatum. C’s aren’t winning this series unless he shows up on offense the rest of the way regardless.

Brown atm but it’s still an open race. A couple of big games from Tatum would do it for him.

The dude has been Historically bad and they were still up 2-1.
They don’t need him to be a savior, they still rely on his offense but they can’t have him throwing the game away or if Greg Williams was having a better series they could bench Tatum altogether.

Marcus Smart for shooting like a superstar PG in this series. You should see how brutal his numbers were in previous series :D

In Games 1 and 2 , Tatum was historically bad from 2 point range.
Worst in finals shot clock era history .
In game 4 he was 26% from 2p range.

People like to bring up Kobe inefficient game 7 but he was a champion in going for B2B.
People just throwing out tatums names with Lebron , Durant etc but these guys are highly efficient players historically , Tatum in career year is 45% fgs.

Kinda off track but historically bad , mostly visibly selfish play .
We are talking consistent bottom of the barrel shooting efficiency while leading the entire playoffs in turnovers .

Last but not least , no pun intended , the -36 worst ever court presence by a player in the finals ever . It’s really an insult to say he is deserving of the award I’m not sure what narrative at this point would deserve him clinching this award.
