Chuma vs RJ

Post#1 » by mattdelray1220 » Sat Jun 11, 2022 2:07 pm

It seems like our F depth and guard depth (pending ross or FA signing) leaves Chuma and RJ out of the rotation.

Of the 2, who do you have more confidence in being able to crack the rotation at some point in the season? Who has more potential? Can either be a starter in the NBA? Curious on the boards thoughts.

I think Chuma has more potential as a defender and 3pt shooter with size. It seems like RJ is out of control a lot and isn't the shooter that Chuma can be.

I'll take Chuma, I actually thought he was gonna have a breakout year but it never happened. Both players finished up last year on a good note but didn't move the needle at all this year, if anything they regressed?

I'd keep Hampton over Okeke as he is much younger. Okeke is almost 24. Neither is looking like anything more than roster filler at this point, but at least Hampton has time on his side. I wouldn't hesitate to replace either (or both) with something interesting from the draft.

Okeke is more of a rotational player than Hampton.

I could see Okeke getting a nice contract after his rookie contract. Hampton might be one of those players that has a tough time finding a team.

Definetly Chuma. He has stronger frame, can protect the rim and should be much better shooter going forward (this season is misleading imo). If Hampton doesnt improve significantly he will never crack rotation while Chuma showed starter potential in stretches.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

I've been on the board boasting for chuma for a bit now. I'm a big fan of his. His defense is really good. He's great at playing in the passing lanes and deflecting passes and staying in front of his man. For a guy that's supposed to be a pf he was able to switch and stay in front of point guards this year. And he is always moving on offense. Maybe not running off screens but moving to find a path to the ball and because of that he had a lot of open 3 point shots late last year. He just didn't shoot lights out. The shot is there they just didn't fall. And he doesn't turn the ball over or try to Russell Westbrook his way to rim like Suggs.

I don't know if it'll work but I see no reason to not start him along side of fultz with franz Jabari and WCJ. If he played steady minutes with that group he'd become very productive. That's what I believe anyways.

So it's chuma for me...
As for RJ I see some potential. I saw alot of the mistakes as well. Try to remember these young players were thrown out there with a different mix of guys constantly last year. I'm not saying give him a complete pass but I think if he was consistently coming off the bench with the same players he might just be a pretty good player too.

This is the depth chart I'd like to see next year

Fultz/suggs/cole/Cannaday(2 way)
Chuma/Rj/cole/Cannaday(2 way)
Franz/? (Ross/Ross draft trade -Nikola Jovic?)
Jabari/Isaac/mo
WCJ/Bamba/mo

I’m keeping Chuma over RJ. Needs less minutes develop which RJ won’t get here

Chuma has been a disappointment for me. It's hard to justify a lot of minutes as a 3&D forward when you just don't consistently make threes.

I generally like him as a connector piece, but he's just gotta start shooting the 3 ball better or he's just not worth the minutes.

What is sad for me is because they are both my guys.

Chuma after that great NCAA run he had before injuries and RJ because I thought they didn't use him properly in the NBL.

Chuma, but...

But both regressed. If our FO is serious about making a leap, the two of them should be in the spots that were the G-League revolving door for us last year...Draft and sign better players and slide them to the back of the line.

Chuma with errors and inconsistency is already a useful player to any NBA team. I like RJ but we still don't know what he can provide as a player. He's a big question mark.

Chuma but neither are that good. RJ just really stinks.

Well this is the year where we finally can decide on them. I mean 2 seasons ago we were really hoepful with what they showed us. Last season when they got the chance, we felt disappointed. So we will see this season which was the fluke year.

Chuma because he has a NBA skill: he can defend even if gives next to nothing on offense.

RJ is still largely the same player he was when we got him, a meh guard with "potential".

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Chuma is does everything you want. Obviously he struggled like many others in a new role and a completely different team. But as this team will have a lot more structure and actual hierarchy you'll see him thrive.

Hampton outside of his 3 point shot is useless and doesn't provide much else.
