Possible Finals MVP performances from losing teams?

Post#1 » by jalengreen » Sun Jun 12, 2022 2:34 am

There's been talk regarding whether Steph might deserve Finals MVP regardless of outcome because of how much better he is than anyone on the Celtics, which in turn has prompted mentions of LeBron in the 2015 Finals. This is the only example I hear people mentioning, though - what are some other instances in NBA history where the best performer in a Finals series was on the losing side?

Kemp 1996 is another example I'm aware of where a losing player received multiple FMVP votes

one could argue shaq in 2004 but not enough to dezetve a fmvp in a loss

wade in 2011 is lowkey a posible pick

lebron in 2014 but i dont think by enough margin (or series closeness*)

lebron in 2017 finals although not by a huge margin over steph and kd
