JaMychel and a 1st for #30 and a couple of 2nds
Calvin Booth starts out very precariously IMO, trading away Green and a protected 2027 1st (hope that it is a highly protected 1st) for the 30th pick and 2 future 2nds. I can't say it's terrible value for us, our 2027 1st may not be far off from the 30th pick, plus we open up around $9M off Green's salary as a TPE. Rob Peter to pay Paul. And we should be able to get a good player at #30

I like it, 5 years from now late first round pick won't be of much (immediate) use anyway and they got out of Green's contract, Booth wasn't kidding that he's going to make some moves I guess.

A pick when Jokic is 32 and coming off his extension is risky, but this smells like a set up to making another deal that requires picks.

It also I would assume gives us an almost $9M TPE, which is far more useful for us than Green IMO. This seems like a good move.

Quite decent trade. It allows us using Tax MLE (we were hard capped previously) and we get a 8.2M trade exception

If this move was made my our former POBO, it'd make this a slam dunk but we have no idea how Booth will do in the draft. But as Rebel noted, this could lead to another trade, whether for a win-now player, a move up in the draft or ??

I love this trade for a bunch of reasons. 1-this years draft is good in the right spots for nugs at 21 and 30. You get into that spot now and kind of fix the Payroll RIGHT now. Really good trade

Makes me wonder if that’s the money needed to be cleared to be able to afford bringing Cousins back?
Now go get another pick for Monte Morris

Well, Cousins onlt made $1.7M last year, can't be making too much more than that IMO. Not like we were having to outbid his suitors last year.

Re: JaMychel and a 1st for #30 and a couple of 2nds
The Cynical part of me says that this deal was made to lower the tax bill and sign back some of our depth, I mean would any of us be surprised if the Nuggets didn't find a way to cut costs this summer even if they pay the luxury tax?
If ownership and the front office are serious about chasing a championship this year than this is a move that had to be made. With only the taxpayer MLE and a single pick as well as Barton and MOrris to trade, there is not a lot of avenues for improvement. At least not when your roster has a significant lack of depth at 3 different positions and you desperately need a defensive starter at one position. I think general NBA fans, especially on Realgm underrate the value of Nuggets players (just a few days ago I read that it would cost the Nuggets a 1st to dump JaMychal, and today that Morris isn't a starting quality player) fact is we have to many holes and not a lot of ways to fill them.
Other people have discussed the possibilities of the pick, but I am more excited about the TPE. While we have a history of not using TPEs, but they have some real value. While we cannot receive a player in a sign and trade, this summer only a handful of teams have real cap space, and some of them are reportedly chasing the top free agents. All it takes is one team that needs to clear $7-8 million in cap space to get a decent role player and maybe even a pick as well for helping them out.

Heard a rumor that rights to Euroleague MVP Vasilije Micic might have been part of this deal, Pretty sure it's unsubstantiated but would love for that to happen. Not always a Euroleague fan guards, I like Micic for this team.

Apparently Zach Lowe said in his podcast that pick 2027 is top5 protected.....quite risky.
I know nothing else matters when Jokic leaves or ages, but considering second rounds are not from OKC, and 2027 pick is top5 protected....initial good vibes turn into a pretty meh trade

Well if the Nuggets are still good / Jokic is still there that's a late FRP so who cares. If they are bad, they might actually end up in the top 5

What I basically mean is that Denver 2027 FRP top5 protected could have delivered a better return than Jamychal salary dump, 30th pick and two late second rounds (45-60).

JaMychel was nothing more than a journeyman, not sure you can get a better return. I would've tried for a 2023 pick 1st to give us more trade flexibility but that's about the best I could've hoped for

I doubt it - if anyone around the league was offering a better package they would've taken it already.

With the value that Grant with no salary and Wood brought back with expiring and non-guaranteed deals I would say that cap space is at a premium and we got a pretty good deal.
A pick 5 years from now even lightly protected isn't that valuable.

True if it is a contending team. I would bet they will be.
Canned in Denver.
