Marc Stein: DeAndre Ayton sign and trade talks to ramp up ahead of free agency

Post#1 » by OkcSinceSGA » Mon Jun 13, 2022 6:12 pm

Sounds like they are moving forward with plans to separate. Silly move for Phoenix IMO, that they will regret in the near future.

As a bonus piece in this, it's looking like Myles Turner is staying in Indiana. No clue why he's in trade talks every single year, I love his game.

He hasn't been traded yet and the talk is coming from Media. Nobody knows.
If they trade him for trash, then yea, it's a silly move. Until then, there's nothing to see here

It is not a silly move, Ayton wants a max contract and he is not worth that, Suns will be better off without him

They are a way over cap team. They are contending for a title. The salary cap is about to go up a fair bit. He is worth a max in these circumstances. They have no way of adding a high caliber starter to the existing roster.

Would OKC eat a large sum of his re-up and part with #12 plus multiple future 1sts? Phoenix can target whoever is left from Duren/Williams to groom into their future C?

Feel bad for Ayton. The suns clearly don't value him despite being the former #1 pick..just an afterthought. He deserves better. Paul is aging and so unreliable in the playoffs. Can't win a title with booker as your best player.

It would be an egg on the face of Suns FO and ownership to trade ayton away to save a few bucks for a downgrade. The cp3 window is too short to be pissing away talent like that. They could re-sign ayton, then trade him once CP3 retires or completely falls off. His value can only go up. He's 23 years old, wont be entering his prime for another couple of years.

I think the CP3 window is closed.

Ayton to Detroit for the #5 and Isaiah Stewart.

Detroit shows that they want to win now with Ayton, C.Cunningham, Bey, Jerami Grant, and maybe Bagley leading the charge towards a playoff spot.

Phoenix gets a young big to play the center spot and the #5 to draft a guy like Keegan Murray to space the floor at SF/PF, or trades down to get more assets to fill out the roster with extra talent.

Depends what they get back. They really botched his contract situation last offseason so you could see this coming

The only trade that really makes sense for Phoenix is Ayton for Gobert. Try to extend the window with CP and Booker.

Depends what they get back but I’m leaning to bad move for the Suns.

Ayton on a slightly less than max contract + future pick for OG + Birch.

A trade that makes sense for both teams. Ayton and OG are basically a wash but OG is on a reasonable deal while Ayton will not be. That's why I have the Suns adding another asset in the trade.

Id trade him. He was benched in the final game of their playoff season. Most likely won't get any better from where he was at this year considering it was a contract year.

Wiggins isn't worth what he's getting but he's an integral part of a championship favourite.
Suns would be a championship contender and you need to retain your star players, even with overpayment.

facts. I just dont see an Ayton trade out there that maximizes the Suns window to win a title, and im sorry but im not enamoured by a Booker/Bridges foundation post Paul. Overpay Ayton, bite the bullet for 2 or so years and then re-evaluate. I honestly think every single FO would go that route save for cheap azz Sarver.

i disagree.
i'm a longtime ayton hater.

he doesn't move the needle and never has

he plays a rote game because he has to be spoon fed.

people are forgetting the immature/baby issues he had BEFORE monty. monty became his whisperer and had to take him by the hand. he was monty's project and i am surprised that no one is bringing up how monty became FED UP with whatever childishness ayton was presenting and sat him in the playoffs!!

lastly if you're not an elite center in the game today, read: embiid/jokic/giannis, you are just a plug and play center in a game moving away from the position. ayton displays no proclivity to do anything else but what he's been doing.

if he doesn't land in a situation with an elite pg enabler like cp3(maybe hornets for instance) he will underperform even my low expectations.

and there is high demand for him so phx will get more than what they're giving up
