Re: 2022 NBA Finals - Game 5 | Golden State Warriors vs. Boston Celtics (TIED 2-2)
There was a poster in one GB thread that said the Celtics have multiple guys who can get 30 and I disagree.
The Celtics might only have 1 who can get consistently get 25 let alone 30.
Nobody has really scored a lot even with the clear bum hunting of the Warriors guards. You need guys who can counteract the inevitable 40 points if you are going to play this drop defense on Curry.
The Celtics have been very inconsistent when it comes to those points as it's comes from 1 different person on a different night.

The Greatest of All Time debate in basketball is essentially who has the greatest basketball resume of the player who has the best highlights instead of who is the best player

Celtics doesn't have a superstar (yet). They have 2 all stars and GSW has a superstar in Steph and both Jays has to play good at the same time to beat them.

I really feel like the lack of a legit third option is hurting the Cs. Their 3rd leading scorer in the RS averaged 12ppg (Smart) and he did it on below average efficiency (54% TS). Smart is averaging 15.5ppg in the playoffs on 53% TS, but that isnt all that great either. The warriors third and fourth options (whether you think its klay, poole, or wiggins) are capable of getting 17-20ppg on any given night.

Re: 2022 NBA Finals - Game 5 | Golden State Warriors vs. Boston Celtics (TIED 2-2)
From what I've gathered the point of the drop coverage is to take away Curry's passing angles and take the other guys out of the game. They figure Steph is going to get shots off regardless of where the defense is since he has unlimited shooting range. The C's are trying to take the others away and make Curry beat us on his own. With mixed success so far, but I get it.
It works best with Rob on the floor since he covers so much distance and contests vertically, so he's able to bother Steph a bit even with the drop coverage.

The Celtics haven't blitzed pick and rolls much all season and I think they've tried to put off doing so in this series. Not only is it something that they don't typically do, but its kind of the last card they can play to slow Curry down. It's not a silver bullet, the Warriors will probably make some good adjustments to it since blitzing Curry isn't exactly a new strategy. And once they do, that's kind of it. We saw Bud try a bunch of defensive wrinkles in the Bucks-Celtics series, but by the end he was back to their base defense with Giannis and Lopez. There just weren't any other cards to play, so you have to revert to the strategy you can execute best.
I don't disagree with anything that you're saying. I just think the Celtics have to find a way to keep the Warriors off balance, working in some aggressive double teams from time to time wouldn't be a bad idea. I only remember them blitzing Curry in the 4th and it was effective.

You're right about the consistency part. But I think the Celtics have 5 guys who've had 24-point games or better just this postseason: the Jays, Horford, Smart and Grant Williams.

I don’t fully agree with that. While the Celtics should he good for awhile there are never any guarantees you’ll be back. With player movement the cap career altering injuries etc other teams making moves to become a dominant team windows now aren’t all that long anymore nobodies window is 10 years so once you get to the finals and get this close you want to close the deal.
If anybody knows that, it's Tatum. He had a Q4 lead in Game 7 of the ECF his rookie year, and never got that far again until this season. Smart and Brown were on that team too. And Horford's sense of urgency is obvious.

I predicted the Celtics winnings and Steph stuggling in game 4, so I’ll shut up for now haha.
Are we gonna see a great game by Tatum finally? The only thing left at this point.

Since Lebron left the east, 4 different teams went to the finals: Heat, Raptors, Bucks now Celtics. Next year Philly? Brooklyn?

Re: 2022 NBA Finals - Game 5 | Golden State Warriors vs. Boston Celtics (TIED 2-2)
What are the adjustments you think both teams will make this game?
I think Boston doesn't even guard Draymond within like six feet and tries to encourage him to shoot it or make a play every time. I think they play extremely physical and go right at Steph on offense in hopes that they can get him in foul trouble. I think they do everything they can to get Tatum in a rhythm from the beginning and hope that his improved performance leads to better shots for his teammates.
I think the Warriors will let Steph cook, but do a lot to get Klay involved on offense early so he can hopefully find his shot. I think Draymond gets a lot of easy looks at the basket as the Celtics focus mostly on Klay. I think they keep Wiggins and Payton glued on Tatum so that his confidence stays low and they only need to worry about Brown mostly.

Celtics have proven me wrong many times this post season. They beat the bucks on the road down 3-2. They best Miami game 5 and game 7 in Miami when most had them losing both series, myself included.
However, I don’t think they can pull another miracle. Not against the warriors. The warriors have momentum, and going back home. Very likely that Klay, Poole and even Green have a good game
I give Celtics 10-20% of winning tonight. My predictions have been spot on, so I’m fully expecting warriors winning by double digits. I actually see this a blowout by start of 2nd half.

I don't have a problem with your conclusion, but the Celtics don't need a miracle to beat GSW and the prior wins on the road you mentioned weren't miracles either.

Will be hard game for the Warriors. The Celtics have been invincible after a loss. Never lost back-to-back in the playoffs.
