Just take out Huerter if you're Atlanta. Collins/Capella/#16 is plenty for Gobert. No need to bid against yourselves.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Grimes/Edgecombe/Gordon
Oubre/Edwards
George/Watford/Barlow
Embiid/Bona/Drummond/Broome

I would love to watch a lineup of
trae
bogdanovic
hunter
royce oneil
gobert.
the passion of trae and gobert would amazing to watch as well.
adding Okongwu would be too much for Atlanta in my opinion. I'd want to surround Trae with 4 elite or potentially elite defenders, so I need to keep Okongwu and Hunter in a Gobert trade.
Trae

Hunter
Okongwu
Gobert
if they can add the right 2 guard to those 4 that could be a very dangerous team.
Gobert/Okongwu spacing is awful.

And in the East, Gobert is less likely to be played off the floor in the postseason since he'd matchup well opposite elite bigs like Embiid, Giannis, Adebayo and Siakam.
How is it much different than Mitchell and Gobert? As good as Gobert is defensively, their biggest flaw is that Mitchell is such a defensive liability that he overworks Gobert on that end. Don’t see how that changes with Trae.

To start, Trae and Rudy don't hate each other....yet.

That doesn’t answer my question. Trae and Mitchell are pretty equally awful defenders, so the defensive assignment for Gobert will be pretty much the same - which is not a good thing since it overtaxes Rudy.

Re: The Atlanta Hawks Are Preparing A Big Offer For Rudy Gobert?
Collins can't be included in a Gobert trade. He is way too good to just throw in for a 30 year old making 40+ million who sucks offensively. Utah gets to cover 2 positions, gets 2 better contracts, gets WAY younger AND they get a 1st to boot? No thanks. Gobert's contract is insane, no way we give up that much to get him. Collins still has great potential as well. He shoots 40% from 3 and is one of the best finishers in the game, and a solid rebounder. That is a very rare combination.
Not to mention the Hawks would then have no PF. Okongwu has never played PF in his life and can't shoot. Him and Gobert are a horrible fit offensively next to each other since Gobert can't shoot either.
Capela/Heurter + a 1st would be reasonable, but I'd rather go after Ayton with that package.

Gobert is a Hall of Famer in his prime. And Utah's defense has been top-10 seven times in the last 8 seasons.
Not to mention that Rudy Gobert will dominate every Center in the East not named Joel Embiid.
An elite offensive engine paired with a dominant defensive anchor gives Atlanta a measure of balance that team hasn't had since Budenholzer left.
Their fit isn't in question....it's the cost to acquire him and that contract that should concern Hawks fans.
Even though it’s insane to think Gobert will dominate every other center even disregarding that part most teams will still play small and run him off the floor

Just wait until someone whips out that MS Paint thing to show that the Hawks were secretly the greatest team of all time.

I was hoping you'd reevaluate the question and form a new one.
1. Utah has been a top-10 regular season defense with Mitchell multiple times, including a top-5 defense multiple seasons. If Hawks can pull a hand full of seasons with of a top-10 offense and top-10 defense, the acquisition will be worth it.
2. Jazz defenses didn't fall apart in the post season because Donovan Mitchell is a bad defender. The defenses got exploited because all of Utah's wings are bad.
You keep asking the difference as if a) Utah's defense was a complete failure with Gobert and b) as if all other aspects of the two different teams are the same.
It's clear the Hawks front office is making defense a priority. They've targeted Rudy Gobert and Dyson Daniels as key acquisitions, and seem committed to keeping DeAndre Hunter and Onyeka Okongwu on the roster.
All to say, there's a huge difference. But if Hawks can match Utah's regular season success on the defensive side of the ball, it will be a massive improvement.

Yea I don't really get the point, he's an upgrade but does he move really move the needle enough for the assets he costs? And he's what, the same age as Clint?

He hasn't made much of an impact when it matters for the outrageous contract he has. His player option in like four years is $43 million.Ryoga Hibiki wrote:Rudy is at a pretty normal 30% max, he didn't get the full supermaxZeno wrote:I like the deal for both teams and think it is fair but if I was a Hawks fan, I would be concerned about Trae and an aging Gobert on a supermax. Is the Hawks ownership the kind that is willing to go deep into the tax or if this doesn't work will they be forced into attaching assets in salary dump and a dissatisfied Trae a few years from now. I do think Trae and Gobert has great potential but it is very big risk if you don't have a very deep pocketed and committed owner.

While I don't believe Utah used him properly I don't believe he's worth his contract.

And I was hoping for a decent BB conversation that could have been had like this above, but without the passive aggressive attitude. But this is RealGM, so I guess that part is on me.

Also not buying that Trae will make Gobert some elite scoring option. He may get a few more touches but I still don’t see it being enough for teams not to go small spread the floor and force Gobert out of the paint.

This is why I’m not buying the Capela, Collins and 16th pick for Gobert talk. That contract is a pretty big albatross for any team that takes on it. I see Capela and Collins alone or Capela, Gallo, 16th for Gobert. Essentially Atlanta would need to maintain some flexibility going forward.

it will depend on how the rest of the roster is built.
In Utah Rudy had to protect several bad defenders, not just Mitchell.
That obvioulsy won't work in the playoffs
