Memphis basically had zero D1 caliber guards (or actual shooters) and on the other hand had about 10 athletic forwards/bigs. A mess of a roster.

I read that Penny couldn’t trust him defensively. Naturally, Minott and his family feel he was done dirty.

That's normally the deal with super athletic raw bigs. Based on the scouting report, he's supposed to project as a great defender though, so that's a little weird. Maybe Penny was pulling a Bill Self and purposely tanking his stock to keep him another year.

TyTy Scouting Report

I'm not a fan, but it's good breakdown.

Right now I'm trying to get a handle on potential green room invites that are mocked in the back half of the lottery, since it's likely at least one of them will fall to us.

I have to say, I think I like TyTy, but I don't really love him.

Right now I have those guys ranked like this:

I like:
Malaki Branham
Mark Williams
Dyson Daniels
Ochai Ogbaji

I'm indifferent to/hesitant about
TyTy
Sochan

I don't seem to have interest in
Jalen Duren
Ousmane Dieng

The Memphis Basketball podcasters I listen to think Minott's low minutes were deserved. Great defensive tools but unrefined on that end. Too many blow-bys.

I have zero memory of watching him play, so take it with a grain of salt.

This new mock draft has the Bulls selecting Jalen Duren. I don't know much about him, but if he can run the floor, rebound and block shots that would help. Maybe he could eventually be similar to Mitchell Robinson or Robert Williams?

Every few years there's always that one prospect that I can't stop watching highlight video of. A few years ago it was Michael porter jr., 2 years ago it was tyrese haliburton. This year I just can't get tired watching jalen williams highlights. Maybe i have a thing for length, pause. Zach Lavine resigning or not I want jalen williams on the bulls.

He's really slid since last month. Or others somply have been rising past him. At 18 that's still a steal though.

Sometimes I wonder if with all the wing lust, there’s opportunity in guys like TyTy, Jaden Hardy, and Kennedy Chandler who are super skilled but overlooked because they don’t fit into the most sought-after archetype.

Chandler had an awesome freshman season by any measure, and Hardy was top 5 in his class before he had an (understandably) inefficient G League season.

If we ended up grabbing one of those guys I wouldn’t be disappointed. I’m probably lowest on TyTy but he had a pre-Injury stretch during which he showed blue chip stuff.

We'd be lucky to get Duren at 18. This mock also has Mark Williams falling all the way to 23. I doubt that happens either.

It's still early, many mocks still have good guys dropping to get attention and clicks from fanbases.
Most mocks just get serious one or two days from the draft, when the real intel (and smoke screens) start leaking from trade talks.
Still, mock drafts are always fun, and I agree, if Duren falls that far, he's a no brainer at #18
Constantly underwhelmed by the Bulls.

Rival teams don’t believe the Hornets will keep both the 13th and 15th overall picks. Givony has also heard from rival clubs that the Bulls don’t love their options at No. 18 and are open to trading that pick, possibly in a package with guard Coby White.

I really hate that Givony jumped ship to ESPN. Draft Express' mock was always the most accurate.

Just from an entertainment perspective, it looks like we’re going to have two straight years of drafts that will be really interesting to watch well into the second round. That’s fun.

Regarding these Coby White rumors, first, duh. If you’ve been paying attention AK does not value Coby White. And neither do I, for our roster. Nonetheless, attaching the 18th pick to him pretty significantly shifts my expectation on return. Coby for all his faults still has upside and is not just some scrub to be dumped. It has to come in the form of some sort of upgrade relative to roster needs (as opposed to a one v one analysis). Adding the 18th pick in a draft where there there project to be multiple quality options to address important team needs is a big deal to me.

Coby + 18 has to net a pretty darn good return. At minimum a move up in the draft for a player highly valued by AK. Not just some random vet of the type who can be had with the MLE.

That could explain why we've been working out so many guys in the undrafted range. AKME could be thinking about trading out of the draft.

Still not sure about my exact order but these are the guys I'm most interested in right now:

Tari
Jalen Williams

Wesley (very underrated IMO)
Branham
Liddell
Terry
Hardy (some days, on other days I hate myself for this)

Players I don't really like:

Agbaji
Jovic
TyTy
Chandler
Baldwin Jr. (but I guess he's definitely a second rounder now)

If Tari and Jalen are gone, I definitely wouldn't feel great about my options. Actually starting to like this class less the more I watch.

I could see us trading out, but the workouts don't really mean anything in that regard IMO. A team with no second rounders (and no plausible way to get one) that also needs cheap contracts should definitely try everything to find the best undrafted guys available.

6. IND - Benedict Mathurin
7. POR - Dyson Daniels
8. NOP - Shaedon Sharpe
9. SAS - Jalen Duren
10. WAS - Johnny Davis
11. NYK - AJ Griffin
12. OKC - Ousmane Dieng
13. CHA - Jeremy Sochan
14. CLE - Ochai Agbaji
15. CHA - Mark Williams
16. ATL - Malaki Branham
17. HOU - Tari Eason
18. CHI - Jalen Williams

19. MIN - Walker Kessler
20. SAS - Blake Wesley
21. DEN - TyTy Washington
22. MEM - Kennedy Chandler
23. PHI - Jaden Hardy
24. MIL - Nikola Jovic
25. SAS - EJ Liddell
26. HOU - Marjon Beauchamp
27. MIA - Dalen Terry

When it comes to guys that the Bulls supposedly work out who now seem too highly rated for #18 or are currently mocked at way below #18 in some cases I think it could be if there's a guy the Bulls are considering they work out a player with the same agent as a favor to prop up the other guy. Maybe teams 20-30 see the Bulls work out a guy they might like and they get worried and trade up a few spots giving that kid a better rep and making him a little more money.

Also they work out a kid that's showing up 10-16 and figures to be gone, teams ahead of the Bulls think maybe he's dropping and start asking if that guy has some problems they haven't found out about and he does start to fall to the Bulls. It doesn't hurt a kid to work out for just about any team that asks, he could make an impression or just being asked by so many teams raises his profile.

In both cases if teams think players are moving up or down, maybe they call the Bulls in hopes of moving up or down to #18 to get their guy.

The games don't stop after they play 82.

Return to Chicago Bulls
