Banchero is coming. They can't mess up this draft, and even if he turns into a total **** show on offense, his floor is a 250lb beast in the paint that can handle the ball. Best case, he is what jabari parker could have been but not a tweener.

I’m still not 100 percent convinced the Magic take Jabari Smith Jr. here, even though all indications are he’ll be the selection. There’s just too much chatter about teams trying to trade for this pick. If the Magic play their cards right, they might be able to land Smith at a lower pick while accumulating additional assets. Sort of like how the Celtics effectively flipped Markelle Fultz for Jayson Tatum back in 2017. Fultz has turned into a solid player with the Magic, but he’s not the best player on a Finals team. Orlando needs that type of player. So for now, Smith is the first choice. The 6-foot-10 forward provides the type of defensive versatility and shotmaking this roster sorely lacks. Even though his ability to create is unproven, he’d be joining a team with ball handlers who need a target now. While he’s thriving off-ball, he can still work on his dribbling to hopefully someday become a player who can run the show late in the fourth quarter. At a minimum, he’s a potential All-Defensive team guy who can shoot over 40 percent from 3. If he improves his handle, he could become one of the league’s best players.2. Chet
ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported earlier this week that the Thunder are “aggressively pursuing” trades to move up from the 12th pick to land a second high lottery selection and take Jaden Ivey or Shaedon Sharpe. I have heard the same. It is also worth considering the possibility of another move down. Or what if the goal is to land both Ivey and Sharpe? Oklahoma City could use the second pick to take Ivey and move up from 12th to grab Sharpe. All that said, Holmgren is no lock here. But he keeps the spot in the mock for now since he fills a need in the frontcourt with his rim protection and shot-altering defense. The Thunder already have playmakers in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey, so Holmgren can feast off their creativity as a spot-up shooter and paint finisher. Holmgren displayed some passing chops of his own at Gonzaga, so he could be utilized as a creator from the perimeter, elbows, and on the short roll. We’ll see what happens. Sam Presti has a lot of options.3. Paolo
The Rockets traded Christian Wood to the Mavericks earlier this week, so now they have the 26th pick in addition to the third and 17th picks. With three firsts, a bunch of future picks, and youth on the roster, they’ve inquired about moving up into one of the two top spots. Whether they’re targeting Smith, Holmgren, or Banchero, Jalen Green showed during his rookie year that he’s a rising star in need of a running mate. The Rockets’ choice here will help define Green’s path. Banchero is someone who could help him carry the offense since they can both work with or without the ball. Of all the top picks, Banchero is the most ready to get buckets as soon as he steps foot on an NBA floor. But he’s the furthest away from contributing on defense, which raises questions about his frontcourt fit next to Alperen Sengun and his ability to lead a top defense with Green. Drafting Banchero is a bet that he’ll become a leader on offense and good enough on defense.

If the front office isnt sold on Jabari, they could sell Houston on Chet as they need the defensive presence and should be able to get #3 for Paolo and 17 & 26. could grab Kessler (or Williams from Duke if he slides a hair) and someone like Jalen Williams/Branham/Jovic.

Part of that was by design and his role in offense.
I’m a firm believer that it’s something which is in his skillset, just underutilized by Few in Gonzaga’s system. A lot of the offense ran through Timme, && they were talented enough not to need Chet’s creation of the dribble. He flashed it far more in high school, && I’m convinced that with increased space at the next level the right team will be able to further develop it. The handle is there.
The overall point though is he’s a far more skilled offensive player then Turner, imo.
I feel like many see Paolo as Mr. Offense, holmgren as Mr. Defense, and Smith as somewhere in between. But chet has not just upside... But known offensive skills which to me makes him one of the most unique of prospects and 2 way players.
except, it isnt just Chet that has upside. Paolo isnt going to become Chet-like on defense, but i also dont see Chet ever being able to be as good on offense as Paolo. likewise, Paolo wont be able to guard wings like Jabari, but Paolo has a much better handle and offensive flow. Jabari has a better NBA body than Chet, but Chet has better handles. Each player has upside.

from all i've seen, Hou seems dead set on Paolo. Also the only player at the top they've worked out.
If we want Paolo, don't get cute, and just take him at 1. I also think OKC may have Paolo #1 on their board.

My bad... i didn't mean that one was going to become in the same realm as the others. BUT... the point was... that many saw chet mainly for his defense and that's it. Thinking we don't need another defensive player. But Chet has only shown his 3pnt shooting, at-rim dominance (i know...in college), some fascilitation, and an occasional coast to coast. While not much of his one on one has been on display... turn around jumper, iso from the perimeter on bigs, etc. His offensive talent exists and not just skewed to defense.
as i've said in many of threads... chet i MY personal choice. But i'm down for all 3 of them... and even Ivy, Sharpe, Murray if orlando is impressed by them. I can only see what i see on the screen.... and they will have a better idea of the player and the direction of the team than i would.

im not so sure. especially with Sengun, they have no defense. Sengun could bang against the bigger bodies when needed and play along side Chet.

Interesting take by Tate Frazier. Almost comes off as if he had some inside "scoop."
I actually have come around on the idea of Banchero. I think he's going to be good in the NBA, and I'd probably lean his way over Smith.
I never understood why Paolo was out of the equation for Orlando.
For a team with one of the worst offenses in the league, Paolo provides what the Magic severely lack.
The only thing that could be an issue is spacing. However, Orlando can solve that issue with a few moves, so it shouldn't deter them from drafting Paolo.
I could see the Houston trade becoming a very real possibility if Orlando knows he would be available by #3. Maybe its even worth taking the risk if they like Jabari and he's still on the board. Either way its a good situation to have.

I think Houston would sooner pair Chet with Sengun now that they have moved on from Wood.
Maybe this has already been discussed since they recently made this move.
That front-court of Sengun/Paolo would be swiss cheese.

Who exactly has Paolo out of the equation for the Magic? Us realgmers?
I mean let's face it, professional FO probably has him as a choice, its just us fans who probably wrote him off.
If you think about it, Paolo with his measurements does fit our draft profile. Add to that he is probably the worst of the 3 in 3pt shooting percentage, he seems a perfect Magic draft pick. Lol

With the smoke coming out that a lot of teams think his workouts weren't that impressive, he gotta compensate somewhere...
Then again, he could be and the smoke is juat so a team could grab him. Lol

Saw that new movie Adam Sandler "Hustle" on Netflix last night.
I liked it.
And I'm sure the release was timed for the NBA draft because it's a lot about that.
Recommended.

I can believe it... i mean, he was pretty much hiding the entire NCAA tourney. However this is near draft night so.you have to wonder if a GM is blowing smoke to the guy so that SS will drop to him?

I'm starting to really get the feeling that we're trading this pick. Also starting to see the wisdom of taking Banchero.
