Can he get to that point before the end of his career? If so, what would it take?
Now that's the difference between first and last place.

Y’all should just start a Curry megathread comparing him to all time greats and asking which ones he’s better than or what will it take for him to be better than them.

Curry's going to have an uphill battle surpassing the guys in the top 10. He either trails them significantly in awards/MVP's (Bird/Magic) or longevity/All-NBA selections (Duncan/Shaq/Hakeem/Kobe).

Could he do it? Sure, but I have a hard time seeing him being able to accumulate the body of work it would take to surpass most of these guys.

Curry is comparable to Duncan. I don't get this what will it take stuff though, Curry is 34, we have seen his prime, I don't think he gets any better. I mean his career can be greater than players who were better than him, but I do not decide who was better player by purely team success, one player can only do so much.

Starting repetitive threads that are super pro or anti a specific player is pretty annoying, right?

Sure is. Just start the megathread and call it a day.

This thread really needed to exist. Like comparing curry to a guy on the all time tier list and asking what it would take to surpass him. I think he need at least 15 more of these threads, but there are only so many all time great players, unfortunately.

He would have to become a better player

I think he’s already fairly close as far as peak, and accolades. A few more years of decent production just to bump up career numbers should be enough. Not sure he’ll ever pass Duncan, but certainly close to the same tier.

I think both raised their team's chances to win a championship to the same degree during their prime (even though, as a Spurs fan, I prefer TD in the two-years peak interval).
Judging by Curry's style of play he can certanly remain a productive contributor until 37-38. Timmeh's career has a something few players have though: he was already an all-NBA caliber player in his rookie season and in his 17th season.
To put it this way: having a career as good as Timmeh's or better is arguably something only 2-3 players have achieved

I think a good amount of people have Steph Curry 11 to 15 on the ATG list. Probably one more championship would put him in the top 10 and likely above Tim Duncan.

Unless he wins another regular season, MVP or wins a 6th ring, I don't see him every being above Duncan. Duncan was a great 2-way player which Curry never was.

It’s almost impossible with that 2003 season as a trump card there.

Does being a two-way player win you more?

It would be great if teams couldn’t hunt Curry on defense. That would have brought more wins.

Yes it usually does. In the Spurs case it definitely allowed them to always win 50 or more games during the whole entire Duncan era.

Duncan's accolades also dwarf Curry's accolades.
Duncan:
15 all-star games
15 All-NBA teams
15 All-NBA defensive teams
3 Finals MVPs
2 MVPS
5 titles

Curry:
8 All-star games
7 All-NBA teams
0-All NBA defensive teams
2 scoring titles
1 Finals MVP
2 MVP
4 titles

Curry can't make up those defensive teams. Great offensive player and winner though.

Agreed. He will also never catch Duncan in all-star games or all-NBA teams.
