I'm laughing a bit at the contrast between the last time Miles made the news followed up by this news that other teams are ready to give him a max deal. I'd bet a substantial amount of money this is PR masquerading as news coming from Klutch.

I highly doubt teams care about that. The Pistons make so so much sense. Loads of space, great wing to play with Cade, and of course he's from Michigan.

driveandkick wrote:I really go back and forth. I agree, a max could be a bit steep for Miles. Not a ridiculous overpay, but a moderate one. If you're paying him that much you're expecting that he can be a bonafide second option on a team that's going far into the playoffs... which, we'll see if he's that guy. It's certainly a ton of money.
On the other hand, good luck selling LaMelo on the future of this team if you let our second best player and his favorite running mate walk. I simply think they have to match him, regardless of what he gets. I wonder if we could pair one of these draft picks with Hayward to get him off the books.
This is exactly the pickle they're in, and is the reason why Mitch is a millionaire. He's got a very difficult decision to make.
EDIT: not THE reason why, but you get my point

Also, like... Miles took a huge leap here. I remember after his second season I was a bit concerned he was a role guy at best. Then took a huge leap his last two years. He bought in to our system of player development. Grinded his way from a role player to potentially a max deal. Fair or not, if you just let him walk it's an awful look to the other players in the organization. Miles committed to this organization and city in a way many players don't, just an atrocious look if you don't reward his efforts.

You have to pay Miles, this isn't some situation where you can say "He is asking for 4-5 million more than we think he is worth, so lets sign one of the other 5-6 24 year old free agents for cheaper". The reason he is so expensive, because there is a lack of supply of these types of guys with a high demand. There aren't just hand fulls of 20 pt scoring wings on the open market.
I know its a tough decision now, but if he plays at the same level he played this year for the next 4 its a good deal for us. If he improves, it could be a great deal for us. If the cap spikes, he is going to be looking like a bargain deal potentially by year 3 or 4.

Yep. It's taken me all of like an hour to go from being moderately on the fence to being absolutely adamant that he has to be retained at all costs. Letting him walk would be a huge stain on the organization.

Did he say who was going to offer it?
Nope, that was basically the only relevant information and even with that it's coming from Shams who's basically a marionette for Klutch.

Seriously?
Seriously.
Not signing Kemba was a good thing dude. He was not worth it and the results speak for themselves - Boston cut him for nothing and took a huge salary hit. It also got us Ball.
Weird take.

This smells like posturing by clutch to lure a team to use max space on Miles without the fear of us matching and them losing several days of negotiations with other FAs.

Re: Pink Lemonade: The Miles Bridges Thread
For the record, a max offer sheet would be around 130M/4yr
32.5M/y. Which is a top 25 (30 if you take into account other big FA's and UFA's maybe this offseason) salary in the nba
Is Bridges a top 25/30 player in the nba (and/or will he become one..?)
And another question : is this kind of contract tradable (or another 'Batum' unmovable contract) ?
Hornets cannot afford to lose him for nothing, but at the end of the day, 32 or even 30M is a lot of money

One more question:
Would you rather pay Bridges $32mil a year for 4 years
or
Ayton $32mil a year for 4 years,

Personally, Ayton. He'd average 20/12 here and be a top 5 C in the East.

Neither TBH.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Give me Ayton at that price. He was underutilized in Phoenix on offense and he would give us more than Miles on defense.

I haven't seen much crying from Suns fans being sad about him leaving.
Heard on Stein/KOC live today, how Booker had to be in Ayton ass 24/7 to be present.
KOC then said in ref to how Trae and him would work together "I see Trae Young yelling at Ayton a lot"
After he got drafted, they asked what would make his career a success? He answered getting a second contract.
but Hey the grass is always greener right? We have seen what Bridges and LaMelo is, so the only obvious answer is we have to say Ayton because him and LaMelo might be best duo ever right?

Re: Pink Lemonade: The Miles Bridges Thread
LaMelo is a max contract. Period. No other current Hornet is a max player yet. Miles deserves a really good payday but not that much. Regardless of what others might pay, you can’t just max a guy who gives you 85% of max value. If he’s going to be maxed, gotta look to sign and trades. I do very much want to retain Miles, but he does have some caution flags waving right now given his rank social media user videos.
Things are heating up fast boys. Here we sit with no head coach and a tire about to blow on this bus.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Miles is liking tons of posts on Twitter saying he's not a max contract player.

Re: Pink Lemonade: The Miles Bridges Thread
Even if we don't want to pay him the max it will be a moveable contract, especially in a couple years when the cap spikes again. He's a hard worker that has improved every year, I don't feel too concerned his play will drop off.
Personally I'd pay him what it takes, both because he's a good young talent and also because he's another reason for Melo to re-sign in a couple years. If anyone has to get shipped off due to finances it should be Gordo or Terry in that order.

Re: Pink Lemonade: The Miles Bridges Thread
His absolute max is basically Hayward money and hes at least close to as good, but Miles is only 24 and hasn't had any injury issues at all. Don't think you can just let him walk unless they have inside info that hes not serious about basketball or something.
