Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread – (June 23rd, 8PM, ESPN)
It's becoming more and more clear to me that who we land in the UDFA pool could be just as important as who we select at 53.
There simply are too many prospects to actually draft this year.
Perfect examples would be players lilke:
Vince Williams Jr
Gabe Brown
Tyrese Martin
Johnny Juzang
Each of these guys could easily if not likely to go undrafted...which is crazy to me because they are just as intriguing anybody you could draft at like 40 or even higher....
With good scouting and GM-ing we could really stock this team for the future in this off season.

Agreed. Good chance that all 4 of those guys go undrafted - and all 4 could end up being solid rotation players in the NBA.
Other wings who fit that description:
Jared Rhoden
Jules Bernard
Lester Quinones
Adonis Arms
Ron Harper Jr
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

This begs the question: should the draft strategy be to pick the guy highest on their board or the guy highest that is most likely to get drafted in the 5 picks after us thus preventing us to sign an UDFA...
Other than a guy that drops (like a Jaylin Williams or a Justin Lewis), a guy who is not at the top of my list but I would be surprised to go undrafted is Matteo Spagnolo. To me, he has a high ceiling and would be worth grabbing if there at 53.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread – (June 23rd, 8PM, ESPN)
I posted about this guy before, but man, he is good. Very underrated prospect.
Yes, he's 23 (turns 24 next month) but he's not your typical 23 year old. Dude didn't play competitive basketball till senior year of HS, then played 2 yrs at a JUCO, then 2 years at a small D-1 school, stony brook and then just 1 year in the ACC at Pitt. So he's still just scratching the surface of his potential. Development-wise, he's really more like a 20 or 21 yr old.
-6'10" with a 7'3" wingspan
-High motor, high energy. Plays with a bounce in his step all the time and is a good team guy - anytime a teammate hits a 3 he pumps his fist to cheer him on as he heads back on D
-Shot 36% from 3. Really smooth looking shot from 3, with very high release point
-Really good shot blocker
-Really fast and athletic
-Good cutter, knows how to move without the ball
-Best at the 4, but can play some at the 5
I'd take Makoundou over him, but if Makoundou is off the board I am totally cool with us taking Gueye.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread – (June 23rd, 8PM, ESPN)
Here are my preferences as of now:
53: Keon Ellis, Jabari Walker, Jaylin Williams, Dom Barlow, Josh Minott, Justin Lewis
UDFA: Gabe Brown, Ron Harper Jr, Dereon Seabron, Isaiah Mobley, John Butler
Trade ups: Dalen Terry, Tari Eason, Jalen Williams, Jeremy Sochan
Trade up obviously based on cost. Unlikely we'd get to Sochan or even Eason level. Terry/Williams seem to be rising too much, but you never know. If all my 53 guys are already gone, go to the UDFA list.

Not sure where your slander is coming from. C's could have killed for a guy like Duarte in this postseason.
Slander? We had the rich man's version in Josh Richardson and ditched him.

Just now getting around to watching some Jeenathan Williams film.
Woah.
This has got to be the most underrated performance of the season - dude drops 32 points against a Michigan team that was ranked #6 in the country at the time.
He's number 11 on Buffalo. Dude was unstoppable this game.
I'm gonna check out some more film on him but so far he's looking like possibly an awesome sleeper pick..shot 45% from 3 this season on 4.6 attempts per game. Averaged 19 PPG on a 57.2 TS%..has a 7'0" wingspan.

Is there a list of players the Celtics worked out? I would be happy with any big wing or mobile/athletic 4/5. Barlow is ideal for the Celtics in my opinion.

Collin Gillespie makes alot of sense
2 inches taller than prabbit, can shoot set the table ...4 yrs in that system, we could do alot worse

We could also do better. Pritchard was a better passer coming out of Oregon.

Vince Williams is instantly a top-7 rotation piece on a playoff team, wild that he is not a first round projection to me.
At 53 I'm taking Jaylin Williams, Vince Williams, Keon Ellis. Surely one is there. Keon Ellis is a two way wing and he has that BDE too. Imagine if this team finally drafted someone who understood what a cut to the basket is. He'll go undrafted and sign with the Heat and be a 28 minute/g player in the playoffs.
Tari Eason is going to have a better NBA career than Jabari Smith and Paolo Banchero.
AJ Griffin is just a worse Aaron Nesmith. How is he mocked higher than Christian Braun, who is more athletic and better at every aspect of the game? Unfortunate the Celtics do no have a late first, if Braun is there that's an easy draft.

Glad to see I'm not alone on the Vince Williams train. Top 7 rotation for a playoff team is very high bar to clear though. Especially for a lower pick that's not going to get force fed minutes from day 1 to accelerate his development.
I'm not sold on Jabari Smith either. I haven't seen a ton from him admittedlyt but what I've seen is just a bunch of tough shots (or some pull up threes in transition). Power to him for hitting those but I worry about guys that can't create separation in college. It doesn't seem like he did much playmaking either. I honestly feel like I'm watching a 6'10 3&D guy and not a number one draft pick. I know way less than the NBA front office so I must be missing something and I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Agreed about Jabari Smith. That's why I have have firmly behind banchero/ivey/holmgren..

Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread – (June 23rd, 8PM, ESPN)
I posted this about 10 days ago and I'm going to post it again with the draft now 2 days away.
These are the SFs and SGs in this draft that should go in the 2nd round. These are the guys that have caught my attention. Hoping we draft one of them unless their is a good PF/C that drops to us.
1. Kameron McGusty
2. Justin Lewis
3. Jabari Walker
4. Vince Williams
5. Ron Harper Jr.
6. Alondes Williams
7. Keon Ellis
8. Jermain Samuels
9. Josh Minott
10. Julian Champagnie
11. Jordan Hall
12. Gabe Brown
13. Aminu Mohammed
I left out Johnny Juzang because of his lack of defense and Bryce McGowens because of his lack of shooting.
The players from my list of 13 that really stood out to me because of their solid defense and good shooting are in no order:
1. Vince Williams
2. Kameron McGusty
3. Keon Ellis
4. Ron Harper Jr
5. Justin Lewis
There is a lot of talent in the 2nd round.

Not sure if this was posted.
The Celtics own the No. 53 overall selection in Thursday's draft. ESPN draft expert Jonathan Givony projects the Celtics will take Gabriele Procida of Fortitudo Bologna in Italy. He's a 20-year-old shooting guard who played 18.5 minutes per game last season and averaged seven points and three rebounds. He also shot 38.3 percent from 3-point range over 26 games.

I think the Celtics ought to target a young big: Christian Koloko, Orlando Robinson, Ismael Kamagate, Kai Sotto, Kalifa Diop, Patrick Baldwin, John Butler (lol, even skinnier than Holmgren) or Jaylin Williams. At least two of those guys should still be around at #53 and you can typically buy a pick in the late 30's or 40's for cash.
It's easier to get a proven shooter via one of the trade exceptions or the MLE. For example, Danny Green is reportedly on the block (38% for three last year), or Jae Crowder.

Yeah, I thought it was just an ACL, but he tore both ligaments. So take him off the list.
