I still think Kyrie and KD end up staying in Brooklyn for at least next season, but look out for Miami to swoop in on Durant if things go south

In fairness they kind of did. Marks was dealt one of the lousiest hands ever by Billy King and did a great job of remaining patient and turning that situation around to the point where they had assets and cap space, which he then used to acquire elite players. Obviously it seems to be crumbling now, but there's nothing wrong with how they went about things.

Houston has their next 5 FRPs through picks or swaps. If KD forces their hand then I guess the Nets have to move him but short of that they can't pull the plug voluntarily. I also have doubts about what kind of package they could get for KD given that he'll turn 34 before next season starts, he's owed nearly $200 million the next four years, and there are probably only a half-dozen teams he'd be interested in playing for. Getting a decent young player and a few late FRPs won't be enough to rebuild without any of the high FRPs Brooklyn will be passing to Houston if they blow up this team.

I know it would never happen and may be crazy but, If im a team like Orlando i would be all over something like this.
Sign irving and trade for kd and at least it makes the magic relevant for the next 3-5 years
Now whether good or bad at least your sales and notoriety would be high for a team that has been complete irrelevant for nearly 10 plus years.

Brooklyn thought they were getting a microwave champion but they really got microwave relevance. Bye Brooklyn!

KD is still a top-8 player in this league, Simmons was (maybe still is) a great young player, and Kyrie remains (when he plays) one of the most dynamic, exciting offensive talents in the NBA today. On paper, this remains a championship-caliber team. That said, I'd do a trade. Why?

1) I really question Kyrie's desire to play basketball. He's now caused chaos for three straight franchises and missed broad swathes of almost every season throughout his career. Given that this basically was a "contract" year--putting him on his "best" behavior--I'd argue that things don't bode well for any team that signs him to a max moving forward.

2) I have similar questions regarding Simmons. The reasons should be obvious.

3) Which brings me to KD, easily the best of the bunch. KD remains a great player, and would be an incredible asset to any team that got him. More to the point, his trade value remains high--unlike with Kyrie and Ben, the Nets should still be able to get a lot back for KD. Unfortunately, assuming Woj is right--and that the only thing KD'd accept to salvage the relationship is the catering to and resigning of Kyrie at (what I assume to be) the max--I could easily see things getting ugly between him and the Nets. Again if this is true--I have my doubts--the Nets really have no good options beyond pulling the trigger--and if they wait much longer, they'll get nothing back even for KD.
RIP magnumt--you're literally why I'm still here on these boards.
RIP The Hater--keep up the good fight in the great beyond.

Why should Kyrie get paid?

He wants money that he isn't going to earn, and money he hasn't earned to date.

He is under the assumption that you get paid on talent. You get paid on production. Who in their right mind would ever give Kyrie a multi year deal.

He had an NBA title caliber team in Boston and left. Makes no sense.

not a lot of cap space in the league ,but some team would. If the clippers had him, they'd give him a 4 year max. Ditto for the Lakers. Maybe some other squads, maybe not. Earn, right or wrong, production are all just words. Youre worth what people believe you are worth, and there are teams that believe he is worth it, imo.

What they call leverage I call a free get out of jail card.

Teams are often afraid to admit mistakes and/or deal with fan backlash of trading away stars. This can give them the nudge they need to pull the trigger on a rebuild before the ship sinks any further.

I’m not even defending Durant, he’s legitimately the most thin skinned ATG I’ve seen in any sport. But basketball fans will continue to reap what they sow. If they want to continue judging players almost solely by ring count, then of course players aren’t going to tolerate being on teams with no chance to contend.

Why should Durant spend his remaining elite years on a Brooklyn team without Kyrie, when even if plays extremely well all anyone is going to say in the end is that he never won anything in Brooklyn.

Until fans stop emphasizing ring count to such a ridiculous extent, expect future superstars to follow this example.

I really thought he was going to Boston in 2016. Perhaps it isn't too late.

No surprise. KD isn't one to fight through adversity, he needs a stacked team.
