Re: Warriors reported to be looking to trade this year's first round pick...
Just in a vacuum (depends on the players available) I would not want to trade a late 1st round pick. If they hit they are the most valuable contracts in the NBA. Look at Jordan Poole, Keldon Johnson, Desmond Bane, and Robert Williams. They are providing excellent production while currently making $2-3 millon a year for their first 4 years in the NBA (I know Williams extension kicks in next year). Of course you could always draft a dud, but the upside of hitting correctly is so great that I think you should try to take that swing if you can. And we know the Warriors need young cheap contributors, you cannot rely on hitting the jackpot with minimum guys like they did OPJ and GPII this year.
It depends on the draft of course but I just looked at the past 10 years and there is always at least one guy the 26-30 range who has become a quality rotation piece.
2021 - Bones Hyland (26)
2020 - Payton Pritchard (26), Jaden McDaniels (28), Desmond Bane (30)
2019 - Jordan Poole (28), Keldon Johnson (29), Kevin Porter Jr. (30)
2018 - Robert Williams III (27)
2017 - Kyle Kuzma (27), Derrick White (29), Josh Hart (30)
2016 - Pascal Siakam (27), Dejounte Murray (29)
2015 - Larry Nance (27), Kevon Looney (30)
2014 - Bogdan Bogdanovic (26), Kyle Anderson (30)
2013 - Rudy Gobert (27)
2012 - ok, maybe not this draft unless you count Miles Plumlee at 26th or Ezeli 30th...granted Draymond went 35th.
2011 - Jimmy Butler (30)

The Dallas Mavericks, picking No. 26, and Golden State Warriors, picking No. 28, are motivated to find deals for their late-first round selections, sources told B/R. Dallas and Golden State have expensive rosters that feature players such as Brunson, Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins who are due for paydays.
The Mavericks and Warriors are searching for opportunities to acquire future draft capital for those selections, sources said, in the event a coveted player on their boards doesn't fall. Another possible outcome is that they will select international draft-and-stash players.
I'm skeptical. I think the Warriors need to get controllable young talent on small contracts, so I expect they'll use this pick rather than trading it. But in using it, it'll be on a mature, upperclassman-type player who they view as less of a "development project with a high upside" and more of a "guy who can contribute some right away, even if they have a low ceiling".
It's why somebody like Christian Braun (though he's not the only one) would make sense......
I just don't think there's minutes for a guy like that. I think they want to bring back Loon and GP2, and a starting lineup of curry/klay/wiggins/green/loon should be flanked by a bench unit of poole/GP2/moody/kuminga/wiseman. What's the point of drafting a ready now guy who isn't going to play?

I get it especially cause we already got rookies that are struggling for PT … but I got my eyes on looney development projects.. Jaylin Williams or Mousa Diabate.

Jaylin Williams looks like a real possibility to me. Numbers are pretty good, still young, plays D, reasonable NBA body, will have time in the G league to develop his shooting.

An update on the situation...
https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2022/06/warriors-notes-no-28-pick-looney-payton-wiseman-iguodala-more.html
Speaking today to reporters, Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers said that money won’t be the deciding factor as the team weighs whether to use or trade the No. 28 overall pick, as Kendra Andrews of ESPN relays (via Twitter).
“It’ll be if it makes sense,” Myers said of a possible trade.
Besides the financial aspect, the Warriors will have to consider whether there’s a player they like at No. 28 enough to add another rookie to a young core that already includes several recent lottery picks.
According to Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, the Celtics, Knicks, and Magic are among the teams that have expressed interest in the No. 28 pick.

#28 for NYK or ORL future FRP (top 20 or less protected) sounds pretty good to me. Hell, throw in one or both of the 2 SRPs too.
Assuming Poole and Wiseman stay, I think we have enough young guys to develop for now.

NY has Dallas’ ‘23 1st top 10 protected.
Orlando has protected picks from chicago and denver.
Im guessing one of those are more likely.

Celtics thinking they can get #28 for PP.
That wouldn't make sense, the only reason they're trading the pick is to save on salary, not take on more salary.
If they trade it, it would have to be for future picks?

would any of you want to trade #28 for Kenyon Martin Jr. from Houston? He wants a trade, is only making $1,782,621 and might be a useful piece of the bench. just a thought and that might be giving up too much.

If we trade 28, I want a future 1st. Not super interested in Kenyon Martin Jr. for 28.

It’s not a bad idea. He could do decent here and it’s hedging between an old vet and a rookie
My thing is.. if he’s forced out of the rotation in HOU already, is he worth a FRP at all? I’d rather make a push for Garuba if we’re trying to get a PF from Houston

As much as I appreciate Wiggins, it’s probably best to find a deal for him. Top value off of his best year and best series, and u might get a top 10 pick

No one is giving a top 10 pick for a 1 year rental.

Oh man, I would *love* to get Garuba. Not sure what the cost would be, but always been big on him and he'd be super useful here. He's kind of under the radar and under-utilized in Houston (considering there was no reason not to play him more) so maybe they'd be willing to trade.

Yeah if the Warriors want to contend for more titles now, they need him.
Doubtful that a top 10 pick will be able to just slot in this year and beyond as a key rotation playoffs piece.
Herb Jones played well in the Suns-Pelicans playoffs series but Wiggins guarded the best scorers throughout the playoffs and contributed key baskets and rebounds.
It's not unheard of. Tayshun Prince helped the Pistons win a title as a rookie IIRC?
There are prospects with high ceilings including all-defense potential. But how do you know that he can shoot well enough to stay on the floor? Wiggins was only 33% from 3 on 4.8 3PA per game. But he was 47% on 14 FGAs per game.
Odd, those numbers are similar to when he played 5 playoffs games for the Wolves in 2017-18.
But Wiggins hit some 3s in the fourth quarter of playoffs games including game 6 in the Finals. Of course in Game 5, he scored huge baskets inside down the stretch.
Maybe Sacto would trade #4 for them but they're talking multiple FRPs and rotation assets for #4. So would the Warriors draft someone like Sochan or Eason or Daniels at #4 to replace Wiggins?

Wouldn't mind a trade if its for a late 1st/2nd round type player that hasn't done much yet that we really like...
Examples would be Garuba, Scottie Lewis, Sharife Cooper. I'd also trade the first plus other assets (2nds or another future 1st protected) for Kai Jones. Maybe Wiseman and the 28th for Plumlee, Kai and Scottie
Yes, I basically loved what Hornets did outside of the Bouknight pick.... if they took Moody that would have been a perfect draft.
And this also assumes that my favorite players are gone at 28... so if Chandler is there I like him more than Cooper. Max Christie I probably take over Scottie Lewis... Laravia over most options. So really it depends on who is there vs what player might be available. In general, I don't think the guys I mentioned are available in a trade.

I've said that I thought they might trade it. But I am fine either way. Nothing beats seeing a low pick become a good player - Looney Poole Draymond
