Collins as a small ball C is really intriguing. Especially in the PO's - I would want to save most of his C minutes for that.

Snagging Collins and finding a way to get Anderson would transform this team so much, tons of versatility.

Masai almost always wins trades avoid him unless he pulls a stupid. Plus after the grant trade I like Collins better anyhow, the icing is just the fact that masai is a great gm who fleeces other gms when they know you want someone

I criticised the other trades before the lottery but I stand corrected.

I didn't think Cronin had the ability to get something like this done.

If Dame can get healthy and work in Billups system we're going to come out of this well ahead.

Mindblown. Literally.

Bring on tomorrow.

Good deal for something that will likely be a late pick. Grant's shooting percentages were much better in Den and OKC when he was not 'the guy". This fits in with Dame's timeline.

We could potentially get OG as well and play Grant at the 4.

Dame/Simons/OG/Grant/Nurk

I'd actually like to see Hart start next to Dame with Simons coming off the bench in a 3 guard rotation.

That's a really solid starting lineup, that should be above average both offensively and defensively. Simons will probably start, but if they do a 3 guard rotation, Hart will be getting 30 minutes.

This is a solid deal by Cronin. It doesn't alleviate the terrible deals at the deadline, but this deal was very good.

Consider this. Had Cronin done his job and secured #8, Maybe we get Grant and Bey for 8 instead of just Grant. Anyhow, props to Cronin for a solid deal. Let's get greedy... #7 + Bledsoe for Collins + 16 or #7, Keon, and Bledsoe for OG. Now that would be an off-season.

Agreed... Simons is the 6th man, playing starter minutes and first guy off the bench getting some time alongside Dame and Hart.

Not so into Collins, OG would be my preferred follow-up, but man I also really like Daniels if he is there at 7 still.

I'd also love to just pick the BPA at 7 and sign one of the free agent bigs out there to backup Nurk and call it a day. I'd
still love to add one more big body and could see Portland monitoring where Sochan and Duren end up.

Wiz is going to have to clear up Portland's cap situation for any dream of cap space is now gone with Grant now on
the books. There perhaps is one more move to be made with the Bledsoe contract and Portland still has their other
TPE's to perhaps use unless it pushes the team back into the LT.

One underrated thing the Blazers are doing here is they are at the same time trying to field a competitive team for Lillard but also seem to be targeting guys that fit with Simons timeline.

Now we aren't sure that Simons will be a star but he is by far the most likely of any player we currently have under the age of 25. So if we trade for OG and get Grant at least these guys will be hitting their prime about the same time as Simons. OG would be absolutely great because he is almost the same exact age as Simons.

If we traded just Bledsoe + #7 for OG it would put us about 2 mil below the luxury tax with 12 players on the roster, not including anyone we draft tomorrow. I’d imagine Little would need to be in that deal which would put us closer to 6.2 mil under with 11 players rostered.

Throw in a 2nd round pick and 2 vet minimums and we could squeeze in under the tax with a roster spot left open. Alternatively we could also dump Winslow for a tad bit extra space.

So even back at the deadline I said I wouldn't fully grade those deadline deals til this summer. While I didn't fully live up to my own promise, now that I can start to see some of the picture coming together, at least one of the 2 deals looks much better in retrospect imo. That being the CJ deal. I would have been curious what the Blazers could have done with 2 lottery picks, but considering how things outside of their control shook out, I think this is probably the best end result possible.

The Clippers deal is still TBD. That's a big bar of crap to jump over with a summer followup deal, not impossible, but difficult.

I'm very curious to see what Grant actually is when it's not on a terrible team. Were those DET years who he is or just inflated stats on an awful team?

Defense translates, and his defense was good even on a really terrible Detroit team. Grant should be good in Portland, I remain unworried about the fit here.

I've been generally positive with the return on the CJ deal with the exception of not ensuring the 2nd lotto pick. That was a pretty big rookie move by Cronin. I agree the LAC deal was and continues to be Hot Garbage... to resurrect that deal he would need to land OG for little more than Bledsoe and #7... or a Collins + 16 for Bledsoe + 7.

It would alleviate the deadline deals.

We still have plus trade assets and haven't touched our lottery pick.

In my opinion, Grant and Hart are upgrades on CJ and Powell for winning NBA basketball. We're no longer reliant on three 6'3" and under guys to carry the squad.

If we can get something with the Bledsoe asset and either use our first round selection on a quality pick or a trade acquisition then that'll off set the loss of role players RoCo and Nance.

Then it's a matter of rounding out the roster.

We finally have NBA size again.

If we scoop John Collins, we’ll be up to 6 starters and a 6th man who can all give you 20 points any given night. That’d be super sexy

I am going to disagree a bit, not that I don't like the Grant trade (I do) but Right now Grant is replacing RoCo, not Powell... He's about the same size Robert. Hart has 2 inches on powell, but wingspan wise (which matters on defense) Norman is actually 2 inches longer.

This is why securing OG or another starting SF (or J. Collins if Cronin thinks Grant can still play the SF) with #7 is so important. If Hart starts at the SF, Portland hasn't gotten the job done. He's a SG, and needs to play there.

This was a steal. Honestly I don't think we have a shot for OG. Word is that Toronto wants a lot for him. I'd be fine with getting someone like Warren, Barnes, Ross, or even Hayward. Those names are a lot more easy to get. I think we could get Ross for Winslow and the Covington TPE. Hayward could be had for Little and #7. Honestly I would love Hayward but his injuries scare me. Honestly we could play grant at SF too. I would much prefer to trade for a C or just sign one. Could probably have Turner for Little, #7, and Covington TPE. Noel could be had for Covington TPE and a 2nd. Holmes could probably be had for Covington TPE and a 2nd too. I wouldn't also mind bringing back plumlee, or bring in Bryant/Mcgee/Rolo/Bamba/Robinson. I love nurkic but we've had him for Too long with nothing to show for it. We need some new blood at C. Let some other team probably overpay for nurkic, meanwhile we bring in a cheaper option. I'd like to do this
Resign Ant
Trade for Turner/Noel
Trade for Hayward/OG(unlikely)
Sign Rolo
Sign Delon Wright, E.Payton, or Tyus Jones
Sign Paschall/Thad Young/Favors/T.Thompson
So our team could look like
Dame/Payton
Ant/Hart
OG/Little
Grant/Paschall
Turner/Rolo
I think that team is doable
But like usual I'm sure you're going to poo poo my frankfurter
Defense and rebounding wins games

I’m not forgetting the young buck development of Ant/Watford/GB3 last year. Those guys all firing off the bench is nice depth

One more trade to be made involving Bledsoe but I'm skeptical Bledsoe + 7 will get OG from
Toronto.

Portland must be awfully close to the tax line and unless there is a HR deal out there to be had,
is likely to just use the 7 pick themselves to draft the BPA. I think I'd rather have Hart + Daniels
instead of OG if I were Portland

Based on moves so far I would be more surprised if we used the pick than traded it. And if we packaged it with someone I wonder what the return is.

Yeah for us I'd say Collins is better than og really. But what do we add for salary sake to avoid the tax? Is Hart + 7 an overpay? Probably so unless more comes back.

If we plan to retain Simons and nurk, and I think we do both but definitely simons, then we will be close to tax levels once those guys are inked up. I'd love Collins here more than grant even but I wonder how hard it'll be from a cap standpoint
