Most cap in the league by far
What do we do? 2009 repeat or use it to take us to the next level? Does weaver do what he fellows from okc are doing with taking on bad contracts and getting draft capital or do we outright sign who is available and deserving?

Figuring Brunson is off the table-
1.Ayton
2.Bridges
3.Sexton
4.You tell me?
Sin eat and get picks. Something tells me thats not the plan but I hope it is.

Would be funny if we used that cap space Portland just gave us to throw a max deal at Simons now.

Will that 20 mill we just cleared be put to better use than It would have been had we kept Grant. History says the odds are slim, but who knows…

Last time Weaver starting making big moves before the draft we were ridding ourselves of Bruce Brown and he took it all down. It makes me wonder if he’s about to do another overhaul.

I’ll say this- for better or worse this does put an end to the Grant saga- no more extension speculations or trade debates.

Well look on the bright side, if we make horrible signings like 2009, that will mark the end of this recession

That was the first thing that I thought when I saw the trade.
With his great 3 point shooting and athleticism, I think he would be a great compliment to Cade.
I hear a lot of people knock his defense but I feel like with athletic ability, you can coach up defense.

I certainly wouldn't be laughing lol. Don't hate the upside, but I'd offer maybe $20M tops. But if you can get him and Ayton for the cap space available (I think resigning Bagley and and draft pick can go over the cap), and have a starting lineup of Cade-Simons-Bey-Murray-Ayton, I wouldn't hate it. Potentially very weak defensively though.
My hope would be Ivey falls, you sign Ayton, and just retain and remaining cap space for next year and/or in-season trades. Cover the PF spot with a mixture of Bey/Stewart/Bagley. You're not trying to Build Rome overnight. It's really a build towards 2023-24 for me.

I also wouldn’t put it past Weaver to look at the Celtics success and start Beef Stew at the 4 with Ayton.

1. I don’t see anyway the Suns don’t match or way we make a sign and trade.
2. Maybe. Rumors are they don’t want to pay Bridges the max.
3. Ugh. I just don’t like Sexton
4. No clue lol
It hasn’t been Weavers M.O. taking on bad contracts for picks except the Jordan Sekou trade. Kind of hoping that’s what it is too.

This is what puzzles me. Didn’t we already have max space?
An extra 20 mill does what? Help us overpay a couple of role players? Does that yield more value than Grant?
I just don’t get it. It’s totally possible an offer to take on salary and get a better pick simply wasn’t out there. Still feel deflated.

What it seems like hes doing is getting ready to fire off a max to Ayton and maybe the rest to Sexton both restricted free agents.
What I want to happen is get Hayward and one of those Hornets picks. Then grab someone else with upside with the rest. We shall see what happens.

I don’t understand weaver has spent a lot of his focus on constructing a team that is switchable 1-5 on def and then we go blow our wad on Ayton who isn’t switchable and does nothing to spread the floor????

Re: Most cap in the league by far
Previously, for a long time, my thought has been that we need to add two big impact players this offseason. One with our top 5 lottery pick and one via free agency. Now Grant is gone, we likely need to add 3 big impact players to the mix. Three guys that will be top 6 in our rotation to add with Cade, Bey and Stewart.
It could be two FAs and our pick. It could be a FA, a trade, and our pick.... or we could absorb a contract and get another pick and sign one FA but overall I think we're in a position where we need to upgrade 3 of our top 6 spots now...
If we don't, then we certainly need to build/add more assets for the future with that cap space.

Do either of these do it?
Ivey/Ayton/Hayward/Branham
Murray/Simmons/Bridges
Matharurin/Ayton/????

Re: Most cap in the league by far
I'm worried we don't have anything to give in a sign and trade that'll get the job done. Who're the best UFAs worth throwing some of this cap at? Is there a top 7 rotational player or two we can get?

Ayton is switchable. Moreover, he's a very good defender. Suns best defender.
Incidentally, I've never heard Weaver say his goal is to be switchable 1-5. Has he?
As for spreading the floor, yawn. Was Ayton was an anchor who dragged the Suns down on offense?
Deandre Ayton is not Andre Drummond.

Re: Most cap in the league by far
We definitely *do* need more shooting and to spread the floor better, but I think 4 out, 1 in still works. We don't *have* to be five out to be effective (and probably shouldn't try to be with as bad at rebounding as our team has been).
