He is a distraction...plain and simple.

He is a phenomenal scorer but that is all he is...and that is only when he isn't injured/sitting out because of his own stupid cause/taking unannounced leave from the team for whatever stupid reasons...in other words he isn't any good to any team when he isn't physically and mentally available to the team...which is most of the time.

He is quickly becoming a negative asset a la Demarcus Cousins and eventually no team will touch him despite how great a scorer he is.

That's what everyone said when he sat out last year, that he was ruining his career. Guess what? It didn't happen. They don't make enough Kyries that he's available and no one takes him. It seems that's what a lot of fans would like to see, but that's just not the case. Simply and plainly, his level of distraction doesn't trump his relationship with KD or his talent level. He's nowhere near a negative asset. Quite frankly, I think the Nets really want him too; they just want to see him sweat in case something else happens, it'll make him maybe, just maybe, a little more likely to comply. This is all theatre.

Eventually he will be labeled as a toxic asset. This is approaching Stephon Marbury levels of crazy.

Kyrie was on a guaranteed contract, with what ostensibly was a title contender, and he supposedly remains the best friend of that team's superstar. Kyrie could have done whatever he wanted last season without repercussion...and he basically did.

Given the team's repeated failures, not to mention how we're coming to the end of Kyrie's contract, we'll find out now whether the years of craziness have adversely affected Kyrie's career. I'm guessing...yes.
RIP magnumt--you're literally why I'm still here on these boards.

The nets were actually better before Kyrie came back. He had zero positive impact on winning.

In fact I think what actually occurred compelty validated what everyone was saying at the start of the year, that you can't have a part time player, it's not conducive to a winning environment.

Kyrie was mismanaged, the Nets should have never kept him away.

I think they made the right decision, I think there issue was letting him come back part time. I think it added to the tension between him and Harden

[Marc Stein] There are credible rumblings in circulation that Kyrie Irving has had some recent contact with LeBron James to presumably discuss a potential reunion.

There are credible rumblings in circulation that Irving, for starters, has indeed had some recent contact with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, his former Cleveland teammate, to presumably discuss a potential reunion in Hollywood. I'm told it would be a stretch, though, to suggest that the Lakers are currently pursuing Irving. They do not possess the trade assets to realistically engage Brooklyn in Irving trade talks even if he exercises his player option for next season. Also: The Lakers, as things stand, couldn't offer Irving more than the midlevel exception for tax-paying teams for next season if Irving bypasses his player option to opt for free agency. That MLE, remember, tops out at a projected $6.39 million. The idea of Irving declining his player option and essentially playing for $30 million less in L.A., even after the $15- plus million he willingly sacrificed last season and missing the first 35 games of the season, just doesn't seem plausible.

The overwhelming expectation among rival teams is that establishing the Lakers, Clippers and Knicks as potential Irving suitors earlier this week was aimed at trying to goad the Nets into offering Irving a more lucrative long-term deal. Yet we should also file this away for potential down-the-road relevance: Miami is believed to have some level of interest in joining the chase for Irving- should the Nets reach the point of actively trying to trade him-and would figure to be a more legitimate landing spot than the teams initially mentioned given the Heat's various trade assets. While it certainly ranks as another strain on the imagination to try to picture Irving finding daily comfort in Pat Riley's rigid South Beach operation, it's likewise true that the Heat have never shied away from the starriest of stars or personalities painted as challenging. It probably doesn't hurt that Miami's face of the franchise Jimmy Butler was quoted as saying the following on ESPN's First Take in 2017: "I'd probably have to go with my favorite player who is not myself, and that's Kyrie [Irving]. I love Kyrie's game, man. And he's a really good dude.

When The Athletic's Shams Charania reported Monday that contract extension talks between Irving and Nets management have snagged, it was widely dismissed as a strategically leaked story aimed at improving Irving's leverage. I don't think it had much impact there if that was truly the intent, but I also struggle mightily to imagine a scenario in which Irving actually leaves 7 and their Nets, since merely accepting next season's player option by the June 29 deadline next week would assure him $36.9 million. The expectation persists leaguewide that the Nets will hash out some sort of new deal with Irving-ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski floated the prospect of a two- year, $84 million pact Wednesday- most crucially to ensure that they dont alienate Durant.

Kyrie strikes me as the type of guy who would sign for the minimum if it meant he could get what he wanted otherwise.

Kyrie will opt out and hit free agency if the Nets don’t trade him to a team he wants following an opt in. In Connor’s voice, the Nets are Fooked.

Yeah, the Nets still have leverage here:

-They have KD signed for the remainder of his prime.

-All the teams Kyrie would find desirable are capped out. He would need the Nets help in a S&T or OptIn & Trade. He can't just up and leave as he feels. Anything that happens has to go through the Nets.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

Decent list of teams, doesn't mean they have to comply.

Possible trade packages for Kyrie Irving(as it stands now)

Miami Heat- They would trade Tyler Herro/Duncan Robinson and 2nd round pick for Kyrie

Philidelphia 76ers- Tyrese Maxey and 2 2nd round picks for Kyrie

LA Clippers- Normal Powell,Luke Kennard and Terrnace Mann for Kyrie

New York Knicks- Julius Randle and a protected 1st round pick for Kyrie
