i mean some of those teams have small windows and are ok with the risk. Kawhi/PG in LAC might only have another 1-2 seasons of a real shot as their both unreliable health wise and it's hard to know how they'll age. Miami is at the tail end with Butler being 33 and the young talent besides Bam being underwhelming. Lakers we know. Philly same thing with Embiid's long term health being a ?
At the end of the day, these teams want to win titles over the next few years and Kyrie, even with the downside, increases a teams ceiling. He does what very few guys (i mean <10 and maybe even less than that) in this league can do and thats score well against tough, physical defenses late in the playoffs.

Kyrie is going to keep getting chances as long as he is still an elite talent. His circumstances are obviously completely different than Kyrie's, but Josh Gordon keeps getting signed to NFL rosters despite his numerous suspensions because the level of talent he displayed in 2013 was so great. Teams will always take a flier on elite talent.

There's a difference between NFL teams offering min salary contracts and NBA teams offering Irving the sort of $200M contract that he wants. I'm sure teams will be willing to give Irving min salary (or even above that but still cheap) contracts for a while - as the downside on those deals is minimal. Talking yourself into a big money long-term contract that will be a huge problem unless Irving is wildly better over the next 4-5 years then he was in the past 4-5 years is a lot harder.

well ya. The Nets kinda want it both ways here. This is the superstar experience; KD chose the Nets when he coudlve chosen any team in the league and that comes with expectations. If youre not willing to submit to KD's demands, then dont sign him.
Kyrie is unpredictable and was a disaster on 2 other teams. This is the bed they laid for themselves. Just re-sign Kyrie to run his contract as long as KD's and then be done with both of them.
If they wanted to be done with them they could simply keep the hard line with Kyrie and let KD demand his trade. That's clearly not what they want though.
Like i said, Nets FO want it both ways.
The Nets should just do what the lakers did 15 yrs ago with Kobe: tell KD you're fulfilling your contract.
Durant like Kobe doesn't have many options to go to. Neither guy I can see ever playing for a small market outside of their rookie contract. They're also locked up long term. And both guys are professional not clowns like Simmons.
Better off keep Durant, package Kyrie if you can get superior value.

The Lakers were a breath away from trading Kobe though? Only thing that stopped it was Chicagosp6r=underrated wrote:mademan wrote:Synciere wrote:

Yeah but the question always is in sports how long will teams be willingly to deal with stars publicly pouting which in turns puts a big spotlight on the situation and the team. NFL teams seem like they really don't care and let the player pout but NBA teams seem like they don't like the publicity that comes with it and eventually fold. Philly being the exception, surprisingly stood their ground last year with Simmons but I think that was because the media and public were overwhelmingly on their side and no one was going to defend Simmons's behavior. The media would demand that the Nets trade KD and end it quickly if he's not happy because KD is a premier star and they want to see him on the highest stage and contending for ratings reasons.

Yup, The average NBA player is an absurd outlier. They're all in the 99th percentile for ability in a very labor driven industry. And Kyrie is well above average, he's not the top 5 talent his fans believe but is well good enough that someone would take a flyer on him.
I actually think his best chance to get a 5 yr max is in a crappy market. Those clubs rarely get elite talents so I could see one rolling the dice.

The reason NFL teams hold up more is
1: a far smaller % of the NFL labor pool is not easily replacable relative to the NBA.
2. the risk of injury is so much higher in the NFL players will tolerate a lot more for guaranteed cash.
3. No max contracts so you can still overpay if you want to keep a guy happy.

Think I read something somewhere that Kevin Durant isn’t necessarily a guarantee to leave just cause Irving leaves.
Numbers rule the universe.

Irving simply is too injury prone, and an off court disaster. The sooner the Nets move on the better.

Wow! Even though u have seen what has played out on 3 different teams you really believe your team is gonna be the one to change him...jesus christ....how is it your magical heat are going to change him? You do realize he will quit on your team the moment he gets any kind of resistance from your team for his bad behavior. You clearly just don't get it

we dont accept that in miami... he will buy into to heat culture, or he will be pummelled by UD.
