Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread
I can't believe we actually gave up 3 FRPs to draft Dieng. Where/when exactly is he getting any ball handling duties outside of his inevitable non-stop tenure with the OKC Blue? Really really hate that pick and hate that I can spidey sense a Presti shy boi like him from a mile away. Maybe he gets good some day but that's nowhere close to now.
I can't let that blemish that we got Chet tonight though. He's the real prize and the best talent in the draft and he's a member of this team now. I like the Jalen Williams pick too and even voted for him in the realgm consensus mock a couple weeks ago. Even like Jaylin Williams but I was kinda shocked by the pick considering who was still on the board.

There’s enough time during preseason to come round .

We only really have 3 ball handler , giddey , sga , Mann . Dieng would probably get reps eventually.
At 30s it’s more of what role you got for that guy and see who develop the most. Not a bad pick imo. Maybe would have taken a different big but can’t figure out in 5 years which of them would be the best of that 30-40s big.

Dort gonna need to lower his usage too or we better trade him.
Feels like Presti is picking players that are great fit next to Giddey but not so much with SGA around...

I kinda doubt Jalen Williams was who Presti really wanted at 12 but I’m glad we got him.

last season we traded #16 for 2 heavily protected FRP. i thought it sucked for us because of the low quality of the picks acquired, specially because I liked Sengun back in the day. Now is the same 2 low quality picks + 1 extra low quality pick for #12. I think it balances out.
for Dieng I bet the Thunder has the Pokusevski treatment lined up for him. Let him express himself more in his rookie season than tight up the leash on the sophomore season. his biggest strenght currently isn't even his playmaking but his defense impact and upside, NBL is a much more competitive environment than college.

I don't think that makes sense otherwise we wouldn't trade into the lottery with conditional FRP, unless you're saying the knicks strong armed the Thunder. "listen presti take this pick out of my hand otherwise i'll pick Dieng just to **** you"

Of the players available you doubt it or you mean you think he had hoped something nuts like Sharpe falling to 12 happened? If the former, who do you think he really wanted?

I don’t mean Presti got stuck with a player he didn’t want. Just looking at Williams as a player, I doubt he was sam’s ideal choice at 12, if that makes sense. Dieng seems like a guy Presti really wanted and Williams more of a good value pick for some picks that weren’t our most valuable assets. This is just my speculation with nothing to back it up.

I think this is one those don't overthink it. Presti just really liked Dieng and wanted him along with Williams. If a close call between the two at all you'd just let the Knicks piss off and pick whoever fell in your lap.

First I want to say I’m glad we got Williams. We need his shooting. I’m thinking Sam likely wanted to move up more and maybe get Sochan, Sharpe or Ivey. If that didn’t happen because those guys were selected too early or the price was too high, I think Sam likely looked at the Knicks trade and thought it was still good value to trade in to a draft for the 11th pick. Personally, I like the value we got for number 11. I’m not sure about Dieng but I’m good with the move.

That's us with draft picks right now.
We spent 30% of our assets, that's not insignificant.
Not 30% - more like 15%. They were all pretty well protected as well. Presti got his guy. Presti got these picks so he can send them away.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft Thread
the cost of trading into the #11 slot was reasonable, perhaps even relatively cheap. i'm not a fan of sam presti's love affair with these nbl types so dieng is not who i would have taken there, but i respect and approve the move to trade into the lottery again. as far as i can tell, this is the first time any team has made three selections in the same lottery. it's a wise use of our draft assets.
the draft gets a B/B+ from me. chet is the best prospect and we got him. getting two strikes at 11/12 is probably better than one strike at 7 or 8, so i like the move. i don't have much of an opinion on dieng or williams- drafting in this range is such a crapshoot. but i would have preferred duren and griffin i think. either way a minor quibble.
this draft was much better than the last one.

Poku is/has been there too as another jumbo playmaker whose hand needs held. Not to mention the guy we just picked at 12 who excels with the ball in his hands.

this is a bad team. most of these picks / players won't be good. it's not a problem to draft overlapping skillsets when your team sucks, it's pragmatic.
