Re: #24 - MarJon Beauchamp - Poll Added
I love his size, wingspan and motor. We need a prototype wing who can guard the Jayson Tatums and Jaylen Browns when Khris needs a rest.
The rest of it completely comes down to a bit of luck and his work ethic. With raw athletic wings, you never know how they will turn out. I don’t hate the pick, I get why Horst did it. But I would’ve preferred a more complete player. Let’s hope MarJon proves me wrong.

What's your free agency status?
Age 44 , Undrafted , 5'11 , NBA comparison Chris Paul on offense , Pat Beverley on D. Started playing basketball at the age of 9. Super athletic,
the only thing that I had to polish was shooting the 3, BUT back then it was the mid game era.
Current status: Draft Guru, wild hot take poster on realgm forum
OK but how do you look playing against a chair?

Jalen Green's pretty good. Kuminga's kinda awesome.
We have a pretty important player who didn't go to college.

I'm very eh on our guy, but this is a bad take. Good players don't skip college because the alternative only became available like two years ago. That makes the ignite, and I've harped on winning on the margins, an area to exploit.
At the very least, I'm not going to get mad about a guy just playing his ass off, those guys always have value in this league when they have the athleticism to make it work.
Is it who I would have picked? No. Does he make me close my eyes and crawl under the bed? No. I asked for players that can develop into roles here, I didn't want a trade, if the skills come along, we have something far more.
Baseline though, I have a hard time not seeing him not be productive in a small role. Thats probably a win.

It may be lingering from Thon but I have a hard time with guys who just skip a season of competitive basketball like Sharpe. I know he reclassified and everything but he didn't have to go to the NCAA. A case where a guy going to college ends up being the kind of eyeball dodge that makes me nervous. No issue with the guys who play pro in other leagues.

no, he went to SF to train with "nba trainers" and then covid hit and that facility closed down and he went home and the local CC asked him to play (and he scored 30 points a game).
Yeah I know the story, wonder if he took the ACT or SAT.
Covid times were weird.
My daughter had 8 SATs canceled. Rescheduled and canceled. Sometimes days before. Kids didn't need to apply with SATs during covid.
My friend's kid is a hooper, hopped around expensive basketball schools to wherever he was promised to start, finally gets a start as a senior and covid cancels his senior year.
Tries to walk on in university and there's a logjam of kids who came back because their seasons got canceled.
He had been playing since a kid and yet and he never even got a chance to be seen.

And of course since one of you tossed out Sam Cassell earlier in this thread, I can’t unsee that. MarJon really doesn’t look at all like Dad, but can’t find a photo of his Mom. Was she on the green room runway tonight? Dad however was a high school hooper.
Are you, sir, suggesting that MarJon Beauchamp's biological mother is... Sam Cassell?
PP's mom/wife takes are nothing less than Legendary.

No, G League is far better than the college level. Seriously? All those guys were among the best one or two players on their college teams, often in their conferences.

I don't think there's much if any skillset overlap between college board test taking and playing a NBA game. Not saying athletes are all bad students, just saying they're very independent things.

Minus the top competition, saying its better than college is a stretch.

This. He was productive at a FAR higher level than college ball. It's his biggest selling point.
G league players put up eye popping numbers, but context is important.
It's not looked at as such, but when a guy making that initial jump is productive? Those guys can just play.

Part of it is mental maturity & being able to be at least semi independent and function away from home, its not just simply about test scores. I think its some serious spin to act like its better they didn’t go to college which is why they’re still a project at 21.

Hoped for Jovic but i like this pick. I watched Marjon few weeks ago by accident and liked what i saw, now i like him so much that he should be thrown out on the floor from game 1 with the starters

What?
You don't actually think a typical 40 game college schedule is better competition than the G League do you?

The best players in college are better than the ones in the g league are they not? Why aren’t they getting pick #1 then?

I'd argue that very rarely do the best college basketball players get drafted #1, or even that high at all.

Between this year's two Big 10 co-champions, how many players do you think could have started for a G League team last year?

considering they play like just 15 exhibition games who cares? It barely qualifies as competitive basketball, its not an equivalent to the college experience at all. Total spin to act like guys who couldn’t qualify are better off.emunney wrote:JayMKE wrote:emunney wrote:
