Watching the war room vid is pretty telling…

Although I 100% understand why they do it, it always bugs me when scouts compare players like Sharpe to established, dominant NBA players. There’s a much better chance that Sharpe develops into Qyntel Woods than almost all of the players to which I see him compared (on the court only, of course)…

I would LOVE it if he simply turned into a reasonably decent player, lol.

At this point in the year, all I care about is whether or not we can field an entertaining summer league team. So if Shaedon can come out of the gate like summer league MVP Qyntel Woods, I will be very pleased.

Just watched Sharpe's post draft interview... Man... I get that he's probably tired but wow..

His exuberance is only outmatched by his oratory. I've never seen someone so complacent looking after getting drafted in the top 10.

Look at Kawhi Leonard - he barely shows emotions but when healthy is one of the best in the league. Not everyone shows a Victor Oladipo-level of happiness/enthusiasm.

Sharpe was the unanimous best player available. As a small market team who won't be contending next season irrespective of what happens, we made the best decision.

He could turn into a perennial All Star and be the best player in the Draft, or could turn into Nick Young. Let's give it a few years and see how he develops.

He very well could be, but I legitimately couldn't tell if he was an esol student and I don't mean that as an insult. I don't know his family background other than him being from Canada. Ultimately, who cares if he didn't give a great interview if he can ball. It just kind of reinforces the questions I have about his motor.

The potential is definitely there, the only question remains is whether he has the durability and work ethic to fulfill those promises.

Best case would be a Devin Booker. He reminds me a bit of Booker. Slightly shorter than Booker but longer wingspan and more athletic. In terms of first step I think they are both similar. Lets hope he has the same fire and killer mentality that Booker plays with

I think that's a good upside comparison.

From the footage I've seen, his footwork and ability to create his own shot is absurdly good. Shooting form is great too.

What I'll be keen to see in summer league (more so than whether his shots go in or not), is his ability to attack the rim and get to the free throw line and the effort he puts in on defence.

He's a superb vertical athlete and has a prototypical modern SG body (6'5" with a near 7 foot wingspan), but I haven't been super impressed with his first step, which doesn't particularly bode well for his rim attacking ability.

simons isnt someone who likes to talk much either, weve heard repeatedly thats hes the most quietest guy on the team, that dont matter, what matter is talent and hard work and well see if sharpe has those traits

Something you really notice is that he has that effortless, smooth functional athleticism. I also like the quickness of his shot, not Curry but really flicks it quick - seems like his base is all over the place, probably could work on that.

I am really feeling a comparison should he pan out as a SG version of PG13, at least on offense. You can get a feel of his offensive talent from the HS vids, but defense is 100% an unknown.

I have had regrets at draft time for the last several years watching talented kids go to teams at the top of the lottery -- Doncic, Morant, Edwards, Tatum. It seemed to me that eventually it catches up. The downside is that your team usually has to be awful to get the opportunity to take that pick. For that reason, I was very OK when they traded up to get Zach Collins, even though it did not work out. PDX is a decent team when healthy, and it is rare for a decent team to get a shot at a player with a ridiculous ceiling. I would have been crushed if they had traded the pick or gone with a player based on needs (say, a backup center).

Nothing very encouraging to say about his demeanor. Hopefully the front office did its homework re family background and character. From films, you can see him taking plays off on defense. OTOH, his ridiculous skill set around the basket (eg, hanging in the air and finishing with his off hand, etc.) shows that he has put in a lot of hours on the court (compare him to Little at the same age, who could barely play basketball).

Collins was a great interview, for that matter.

Exactly. Not so much explosive as smooth and effortless athleticism. Shot looks great.
